EXTREME Dog Sledding in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland

Our adventures continue in Rovaniemi, Finland as we head out to dog sled over a frozen lake. This is such a fun experience and Lapland was the perfect place to take our first husky sled ride ever. We have been wanting to try out this activity for at least a few years because we knew just how much fun it would be.
After spending time in the Rovaniemi City center and visiting Santa Claus Village where we crossed the Arctic Circle, it was time fore us to have some high speed action. These huskies were so excited to take us on a tour of the lake and trees. Hate it when some city people come up here and claim the dogs are being abused by making them run. Couldn't be farther from the truth. They were bred to do this exact thing for generations and they would rather do nothing else. Sometimes they actually have to actively keep them from going nuts if the weather is too bad or it's otherwise a bad idea to go sledding. Imagine keeping these working dogs with you in some family suburb not providing them with enough exercise because that's what you think they'd rather be doing. THAT if something would be abuse

I live about 100km north from Rovaniemi and my cousin used to work with these dogs!😊 I've had a chance to help with them a few times. One of the dogs had to retire due to old age (lol) and she got to adopt it. It's so fun to see Lapland through fresh eyes by watching these vlogs. It makes me appreciate the beauty of it. Seems like a good time. Probably towards the earlier end of the season, but glad there was enough snow to do it. Later on, the snow will be much deeper. People sometimes ignore the difference between 15F and 0F and throw them into the same bucket: "cold". But the difference between those is actually quite noticeable when you are outside for a while. Undoubtedly you've encountered reindeer references while there. Reindeer herding lifestyle is the traditional way of the Sami people. Enjoy the rest of your time.

Yes, we were thankful it wasn’t too cold for us. We felt like there was quite a bit of snow but we learned there will be much more snow in the next few weeks

How much did that sled run cost? I live 90mins South of Lapland, and so far the places I have found are like 200 euros plus. How much time do you get?

This sled run was about 100 euros per person. We ran for about 30 minutes and then was able to spend time with the dogs and sit around a campfire after. A little bit more expensive than we would've liked, but it was a great experience
