Full Day of ARCTIC WINTER ACTIVITIES in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland

One of our most favorite days yet in Lapland, Finland was full of amazing arctic activities! We started off with one of the cutest things we've ever done, a reindeer sleigh ride. Even though everything didn't go exactly as we though it would, it was a very enjoyable and memorable experience. The reindeer were so special and kind, except for the an unexpected mishap with Jacob's head.
Our next activity in Rovaniemi was ice fishing on a frozen river. This is something we've been wanting to try for a while, but we never knew when we would get this opportunity. We were told it is normal to spend an entire day ice fishing, which seems wild to us considering we were freezing cold after only a minutes. The perfect day would only be made complete with some traditional Lappish barbecue. Make sure to subscribe to follow along with our adventures!

The thing about reindeer herding is that when the herders use an animal, they won't just use their leather and meat - antlers, bones, blood, even tendons, you name it and it will be used somehow. Absolutely nothing goes to waste of a reindeer, and reindeers are respected for that.

And the reindeer is kind of cattle in Finland, not pets, for its owners. Of course there are some pet reindeer too but that’s different.

The thing you were feeding to the reindeer is actually lichen, not moss. Glad both of you were having a blast doing traditional Finnish stuff. Shame you didn't catch anything while icefishing and get a bit more footage of it, since it's my favourite winter activity. But hey that's fishing for ya! Merry Christmas :)

There is a lot of good places to visit in Lapland, 250km north of Rovaniemi is place called Saariselkä, excellent place to see Northern Lights etc.

Thank you for watching :) there are many different tour companies in Rovaniemi, they are all typically pretty pricey but here are a name of some companies we have used: Apukka, Wild About Lapland and Arctic Circle Wilderness resort.
