Did this same thing two months ago on Waterrock Knob and Mt. Pisgah next door in North Carolina. Did SSB, Fusion, Dstar and FM simplex off the mountain. De W4PGX

Our club did a contest in Awyhee county, Idaho, at 7950ft elevation. I think you are at 2200ft elevation. We reached almost 300 miles with 50W on 2 meters, and 180 miles on an HT using 5 watts. We had a similar experience with 2 repeaters. Mountains are fun for Ham radio!

Dude, you would have loved it before people started putting tones on the repeaters. I would drive up most any mountain over 3,000 feet in New England and key up several repeaters using an HT with a 1/4 wave antenna on my car. The sound reminds me of tuning up an electric guitar.
