Thank you for making this video. Extreme hunger is something that doesn't get talked about enough. I didnt realize that this was a product of my ED at all. Like the studies you mentioned, I could eat 10k calories and never be satisfied. Now after giving into that extreme hunger for awhile and recovering I can eat 2 cookies and I'm fine. I never thought this would ever happen to me. I struggled with my ED for about 10 years and it was so awful. I cant tell you how how amazing it feels to not be starving and not think about food 24/7 anymore. Extreme hunger creates a vicious cycle of binging, hating yourself and restricting and it seems like you can never get out. But this is the way out.

@@louisabrauckmann9483 its honestly super hard to pinpoint because I felt extremely guilty about gaining weight during refeeding so I relapsed a lot and the extreme hunger really took a lot longer than it should have to go away because I kept just going back into old behaviors and starting the whole process over again. But if I just knew that I could get through the extreme hunger by not relapsing then it would have been shorter. I just didnt know there was any light at the end of the tunnel, ya know? So I had no incentive to continue recovering. I know that's not a good answer because it doesnt help anyone with a concrete time period. lol but its definitely not a linear journey.

So the best way to beat it is just eat all what you want? Although I'm physically full but still want food? What if I become obese, I'm normal weight now... And eating each day 5000+ calories are good or should I not listen to hunger?

My mom is annoyed because I’m hungry all the time. It makes me really sad, she tells me ‘’You’re probably stress eating.’’ or ‘’You’re always hungry, stop it.’’ I don’t know what to do :( She doesn’t understand and I’ve told her about extreme hunger but she thinks I’m binging.

I was restricting my food intake waaaaay too much (more than I usually do) for about two weeks straight. My body backfired at me ln the third week and I felt like I couldn't stop myself from eating, like I could eat all day and never really felt full or satisfied with what I ate. I was specifically craving, pasta, cake, pudding etc. Sooo I decided to honour those cravings and a week later, I am finally feeling somewhat satisfied and not hungry all the time. I think I experienced a form of extreme hunger and I can see how if I had kept the cycle longer, the longer the "binge mode" would go on. I was so scared that I would feel hungry forever but really happy that I was wrong. It's very nice to be able to feel understood and not alone in this vicious illness. @sarahbeautyfit Saraketo once in a while if I go a day with restricting then the next day I find myself eating more. but for the most part, I've been intuitively eating whenever I feel hungry . I did gain weight but I'm no longer unhealthy looking (also ass and boobs!!). and the extreme hunger concept seems so far away now. it really does settle down. I don't think about food 24/7 now because I dont let myself go that hungry anymore. I hope this helps!

I've been seeing your vides and it always help me so much.. You are such a warrior and I admire you so much! It's so hard to overcome this feeling and I get so emotional those days and one minute I'm sad other time I'm happy but may be since I'm also going through HA. I have extremely difficult on relying my extreme hunger due to those fears but this helped me,, thank you ❤️🌻

I've already gained like 30 pounds in a span of a very short amount of time, personally I feel as though I’ve gained weight rather quickly. Ofc I know I need the weight but still. Obviously I got extreme hunger and I'm still experiencing it now (been experiencing it for like 1 1/2 months) and I'm very scared to gain more weight but I haven't my even gotten my period back...I feel so embarrassed to eat a lot and always feel hungry mentally and physically But at the same time once I eat everything a want without restriction (and feel very bloated right after) and finally full, idk I guess I just get a sense of relief where I can finally think straight (and not think about food), it's kind of refreshing and terrifying at the same time

This is absolutely deprivation, and you trying to get full with "safe" foods - this will only keep you stuck, and actually sick, because a body doesn't need so much fruit and veggies, your body needs ALL FOODS.

Eat what you crave if your craving fruits and safe foods then eat it but NEVER restrict yourself from other foods eat a Variety of foods as well

I had physical extreme hunger for a month and at that time I ate around 5000 calories. Now we're almost a year further and I still have lots of mental hunger. It can take long, but I still give in to it every time.

OnionWarrior I would not even call that EH (no offense). 4000 seems like a pretty normal amount of calories to recover on. My own experience is an EH of 7000-12000 calories daily

@@beaudeneschmetz6355 I eat around 3000~4000+ kcal a day and I'm also experiencing extreme hunger but I'm still hungry all the time and I'm still kinda scared of eating more? Hence why I eat this 'little'

i (think) didn't eat enough kcal during the day 2 days ago and bc of that had extreme hunger during the night. as a result of that i ate 3 mini kitkats and 4 dutch gingerbread's. it was all up to 900 kcal in one sitting and that scared the crap outta me. Bc of that i'm now trying to figure out how much i shood eat during the day to avoid said binges. I know those 'binges' are good for you, but it still scares me and i'd rather eat enough during the day then have to cram it all in during the evening

I don't know how to deal with this. I started recovery after 1 year of atypical anorexia 5 days ago and I'm at normal weight. I still have to gain a little weight to reach my body's "comfortable" weight but it's happening so fast. My stomach feels like a black hole. I don't feel full no matter what I do. I really try to eat everything I crave and never say no to my body so I can get over this extreme hunger soon, but I'm so scared of never being able to stop. Like, I still feel disordered, I think about food and my weight ALL the time and my body image is all over the place. I'm also retaining water and looking like a ball. And I feel so invalid because I was never emaciated. Extreme hunger is what made me relapse last time, and I'm just so scared. I don't know what to do.

What about atypical anorexia? I am and have always been in a healthy weight range and only actually gained about 13 pounds through on and off restricting. Will my body still gain weight or does that only apply to bodies in a dangerous BMI-range?

What do I have to do when I am weight restored en and still have extreme hunger If I gave in then I get overweight ik gained so much in that time after a Month I had still extreme hunger en now I am restricting again 900 calories a day I wanna go back with listening to extreme hunger but I cant now I need to loose first if I don’t I am overweight in two weeks of I have full in

I've been eating 1200 calories for several months (relapse) and just recently I've been so so so hungry. But... I'm conflicted because I feel like 1200 isn't enough of a restriction to cause extreme hunger like this. Is eating 1200 calories for a couple months in a relapse enough to cause extreme hunger?

Yes! Absolutely. I got extreme Hunger after 1800kcal, you just have to honour it, the hunger will go away. Your body needs every single one of those calories.

YES!! Scientifically 100% yes. (I'm not an expert but through my research) Extreme hunger is caused by hypothalamic amenorrhoea, which is a disorder that happens by eating too litte. What's too little? Any amount of calorie deficit which is upheld for an extended period of time. This could be upwards of 2000 calories, depending on what your RMR is. You have every right in the world to listen to your extreme hunger

I get that all in heal you from restrictive ED, but will it heal BED as well? bc with BED you dont purge the food but you still restrict afterwards

Setnom L Restrction is the enemy regardless of what eating disorder you have! Any form of Restrction can be healed by rewriting the brain 🧠 which all in does, You must fully commit to non restrictive eating and NO compensation. X

Would you say everyone in anorexia recovery experiences extreme hunger? My friend who is recovering claims she doesn't and is instead trying to "reverse diet" (which I have no clue what it is 🤣) and get over fear foods and I was wondering if you think this could be a way to get better for her?

Hi Emma, I need help. I'm definitely at a very healthy weight, probably overweight, but I still am extremely hungry. I never really ate as much as I wanted consistently but I'm overweight while still restricting and still hungry. Should I still honor my extreme hunger even though I am overweight? And if I do will I become obese? Or Will I eventually go back to my normal weight?? Please help. Thank you.

Of course you should do not let BMI or anything determine how much u should eat. U should eat till full satisfaction regardless of weight . BMI is bullshit the average person is “overweight “ according to BMI x I promise you , ditch the scale and eat till you’re satisfied . You deserve to eat whatever you want

I used to be perfect not under and not over, but now I'm overweight and it doesn't seem to be going down to what I used to be. Will it? And will I eventually not want to eat so much?

3 years? Omg, this is hell and I'm not thin anymore. I don't understand , the ED took over my brain, and I felt strong cuz I had will power, now I can't fight with will power, and hunger took over my brain. I just canceled my wedding because I'm not going to be a fat bride and my photo taken

Omg this is exactly what I needed! I have question, sometimes I struggle with restricting food throughout the day and then when is my night snack time I can't stop eating but I allow myself sometimes I feel great but sometimes I feel so awful and because of they I fart a lot and need to go to bathroom. Is that normal, is that extreme hunger? 💕💕💕

Lea Your “saving” calories for night time, therefore you will eat more when you give yourself permission at nighttime. Your stuck in a restrict feast cycle. You need to eat more throughout the day, no matter how hard that is, in order for you to stop having such large feasts at night you must eat consistently! Restrction is still Restrction!

Can extreme hunger be physical too? I get hungry every hour even if I eat a lot. I eat enough protein, fat, fiber, and drink enough water, but I’m always physically hungry. What’s weird is my weight hasn’t changed. Ive thought maybe I’m developing hyperthyroidism or something but most likely not. Being so hungry urges me to restrict:( I luckily haven’t though because the hunger pains hurt my stomach so much

2000 cals isn’t a lot it is even a bit less than average which is 2200-2500

Today I eat +5000 cals and I am near on my "healthy weight" is bad that? I only respond to my hungry and they said than I need eat a little bite more (normally I eat between 2500-3000 cals) But...the feel...guilty...uggggh I hate myself for eat all this food (Cream cheese&Jelly sandwich, Choco chip cakes, nachos, avocado toast, oatmeal, cookies, PB, bananas and more...)

Hello sweet I've been anorexic for 27 years and have been in hospital 4 times and day treatment where I have relapsed every time but last 6 months I've gained so much wieght on so little food my 8nsomnia is terrible I'm up all night eating this is what I can eat in one night A whole. Pack. Of. Marmite rice cakes with marmite 150g strawberries 100to 200g rasbrriies A pot 9f high proy9ne yoghurt Some. Night's I even end up eating all that and then like a. Pack. Of. Chicken or a. Salad or some. Kind of. Meal but then ayrave myself ll day but. I've gained so. Much wieght I eat every night all night and wake up. Feeling awful I'm still only eating what I eat at night then if I don't eat dinner in the. Night all I have in the day is. A salad with. One. Pice of. Fruit but I've gained over a stone and it's all going on my legs I don't know what to do x

I eat Porridge about every day since months and I am Not sich of them😂 And I crave Ben&Jerry's like every day and because it's high in calories I restrict until evening when I eat it. I mean eventhough I eat about 2000kcal I always want to eat more and Not only this Pint and a few other things...and I'm already on my setpoint weight (what the clinic said what my set weight is) And I didn't get my period back already... I guess I have too gain more weight, yayy!😭😂 I guess if I honor my Hunger, I'll eat 4000kcal or so😅

The other thing I omitted to mention is that am also in the same scenario where I try to wait until the evening to give my self a "treat". I am trying to re-wire and say hey I can have a "treat" or "reward" myself anytime. My body, mind, and soul deserve it. We have to heal right?!

I’m in recovery for a week now and I probably eat around 5000 calories a day...I feel so hungry all day. At first I was terrified because I thought that I would gain a ton of weight but now I’m trying to get over it and just trust my body. Your body is trying to heal. Eat whatever you want and whenever you want. That’s the recovery process. Over time your hunger will settle down. Just relax and have fun 💜 everything is going to be okay 💘
