Sheera is spot on as always. The anime cuts a lot of important thought processes and scenes out that show that Ayanokouji cares about others. In the LN scene with the new director, Ayanokouji saves Arisu from falling and simultaneously shields her from taking another hit. He says he did it because he knew with her condition she wouldn’t have been able to dodge that next hit and would have gotten seriously injured. It also shows that he was quick enough to protect her and react to his attack. The only reason he got pinned was because he saved Sakayanagi.

Ayanokoji is a goated character and he’s not this edgy lord guy. he’s a guy trying to develop and ACTUALLY try to be a high school student. he actually cares about people and understands others pov. like trying to develop horikita and how in the LN he reached ichinose pasts. in the anime he just straight out confronted her and said “he broke her” but in the LN, he was just chilling in front of her door and bothering her so that she can confess. saying the lines of “i’ll be your door”(something like that, i can’t remember much from the LN). like the convo with satou last season. in the anime he said “she was unworthy of smiling for” but in the LN he was actually grateful for satous confession and just wanted to be honest with his feelings to her and didnt want to drag it out. he’s a great character but i just dislike the way the anime sometimes do it. cause now it makes ayanokoji more of an edge-lord and i see videos of how expressionless he is and stuff like that but that’s not how he is.

They don’t actually give a lot of context as to why Hirata acted the way he did until it was revealed (I’m assuming next episode). The only thing mentioned about his past was a short monologue on the cruise ship and its basically repeated again later on but with slightly more context. So personally I like it better that they tell us everything in one go instead of adding 1 extra detail to explain his entire demeanour.

im very interested in seeing the explanation of why he's acting like it. In my eyes he's still acting like a bitch and whatever the reason is with his backstory, i'd be hard pressed to change my mind. Yamauchi had the least contributions to the class, and more importantly was an op for class A. Not only was he working for sakayangi and sharing intell, he also played a part in spreading those rumors and antagonizing his fellow classmates (technically still falls under working for sakanagi but it's a significant enough point to hold against him on its own). If i was in the other students position, even disregarding knowing he was an op and having the lowest contributions, that would've been enough for me to vote him out. Hirata can get mad all he wants but there was no avoiding the outcome, someone had to go; and he knows damn well Ayanakoji is way too valuable, especially over someone like Yamauchi. That being said, very interested to see his thought process; although i doubt i'd change my opinion about him with it.

For those who say Sakayanagi expelling Yamauchi was an overreaction consider this. In Sakayanagi's eye this school is her chessboard, Ayanokoji's the king, and she's the queen. Yamauchi in turn was a nameless little pawn, yet this pawn tripped the queen infront of the king and called her an airhead/klutz (Depending on the subs)... Does the queen allow this pawn to go unpunished? Of course not, the queen must execute the pawn to send a message that's she's the queen and the pawns should know their place. Since this is Classroom of the Elite, expelling him was the ideal option.

In the LN, Ayanokoji catches Sakayanagi when Tsukishiro kicks her cane, but it seems they left that out. Also, when Hirata threatens Kei, they cut out what he said. Bassicly, all he said was that he was gonna reveal their fake relationship they had.
