That's a brilliant tutorial. I have a set of (very cheap) Cokin-P square filters. They give a very strong magenta tint to all the photos. Please advise a couple (or more) ways to deal with white balance during the preshoot and in postprocessing. Thank you very much for your time.
@e6Vlogs8 жыл бұрын
1. Adjust white balance in post until the cast is removed. 2 Alternatively, convert to black and white instead
@wahabdilawar8 жыл бұрын
e6 Vlogs Thanks. I was afraid that you might scold a viewer for buying cheap stuff and not the real stuff. Apparently all filters alter the white balance...some more...some less.
@e6Vlogs8 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't dream of it. I started off with Cokin many years ago. I know how expensive these filters can be and yes, even the LEE filters need post adjustment to clear the colour cast they have. Not tried them myself, but I believe the Formatt Firecrest ones are more neutral. but again, not cheap. 90% of mine get converted to B&W, so it's never an issue.
@michaelberg5078 жыл бұрын
This is something I do with all my ND and Polar filters. 1. Shoot RAW with camera WB set to Daylight 2. Set up a target that has a calibrated neutral density patch to it. I use the Colorchecker Passport, but a simple gray card in the scene will work well also. 3. Set up your base exposure without a filter, checking for proper exposure. 4. Take the money shot with you filter on, adjusting for the ND effect over base exposure. 5. Bring the money shot into Lightroom. 6. In the Develop module, choose the white balance selector (eye dropper) and click on the neutral gray object in the image. This will correct/neutralize the color balance. 7. Save this correction as a User Preset. Name it something like CND3 (Cokin ND 3 stop). Now, whenever you use that filter, simply apply the preset to adjust out the cast. Stacking filters can something of a problem, so in that case I simply apply the preset for the most "offensive" filter and then manually make the final WB adjustment to taste. Good luck.

Brilliant video, it seems a long time since I saw one from you and you've come back with a bang. One of your best and that is saying something as all your videos are excellent. I'd love to do the boats at Fleetwood but with film on a long exposure, however, may not be the best place to go with poor mobility. Do you approach from the Fleetwood side of the Wyre or the Knot End side? It must have been a long journey from Fleetwood to Crosby to New Brighton to Salford Quays, and all in one day. I would have been really brasses off with a capital 'P' if that had been my Big Stopper. I've seen so many people have accidents with filters on KZbin that I've started carrying mine in a separate bag and putting the bag below the camera, then if anything falls it falls on to something relatively soft. But it's easy to carry extra bags on a mobility scooter.
@e6Vlogs8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mark. It's the Fleetwood side. Oh and don't tell anyone, as it's a big secret, but this wasn't all shot on one day!

Awesome video, I used to think I was a landscape photographer but wow do I have a lot to learn!! I have aNikon D800 with a 24-70mm 2.8. What filter system would you recommend that would not break the bank? I have bought most of my equipment used. Thanks

Hi Craig, very good video. I'm wondering why you used both your primes and your zoom lenses in circumstances where the weight and wider aperture advantages of the primes are less important? My impression is that the 12-40mm and 40-150mm are about as sharp and flare-resistant as the primes when stopped down. Thanks in advance.
@e6Vlogs7 жыл бұрын
I like the restrictions of primes and feel my photography benefits from that sometimes. Zooms are sometimes just easier to use when videoing as well. I like primes for street photography, but also prefer them when shooting landscapes when I have more time.

Thought that I saw all of your Vlogs but missed this one. Haven't been disappointed. You mentioned that the ep5 is better for long exposures, because of noise. Is this a result of lower pixels in the sensor relative to the OMD EM1? Am thinking of upgrading from my gx7 but if more pixels cause noise - don't know if I'll bother?

2 questions 1. when you taking a city scrape from a low position ,how do you see whats in focus with a fixedlcd screen.2 when you use 10stop filters can you shot longer then the time which is worked out

1. You buy a camera with a flip screen! (though i did used to use a set-up using a small make-up mirror that worked well!). 2 Yes, but if I get your meaning, the shot will be overexposed.
