Hook the dozer first to the bucket so you can lift up , this will give more traction to the tracks and raise the rear tires out of the mud .

I've always been told the crab steer one's won't grip quite as well as a fully articulated 4wd (Steiger or Versatile). But definitely invest in a big tow rope (150,000 lbs rating). Those chains kill people.

Something like a yankem rope and a 4wd truck would have done it fine. I've seen Matt's little jeep pull out stuck motor homes with a kinetic rope and a bit of speed.

I was picking up a load of hay on my flatbed once. Got lost and tried to turn the truck around, my steer tires got stuck in the sand off the shoulder. I called to tell the farmer I wouldnt be making my pickup time . He asked where I was at , then came and pulled me out with his tractor.

Case 4490 is one hell of a machine! Originally msrp in 1983 is was $70k WOW. in 2022 that is $198k OMG!! The 4490 came with a turbo charged 8.3L I6 rated at 210 HP at the crank and 175HP at the PTO. The Rear lift capacity is 11000 pounds and max pulling capacity is 21500 LBS. The 4490 uses about 12 GPH with a fuel capacity of 128 gallons. You prob have a semi with a smaller tank. You should restore the 4490 like you're restore your cabovers! Now that would be some interesting content to watch!! Hopefully your wife wasn't to ticked off. Just remember sleeping on the couch is like camping out, and you get to watch TV all night long.

The old Case 4wd tractors were decent tractors for their day. We farmed with a 2870, older and bigger than the 4490, the 4490 is normally around 150 hp, originally came with a case motor if I remember correctly a 504. It would work fine for brush cutting, if something major happens probably not worth fixing. There transmissions were not cheap to fix 20 years ago, doubt parts are easy to get now days. It looked like a good idea at first, then the work starts after the fun wears off. At least you all got a laugh, Braxton is probably more mature than some others involved. Good fun, nobody got hurt. I can remember when J I Case first came out with that 4 wheel drive tractor somewhere around 1965 it was the 1200 Traction King. My dad was district sales manager for the Pacific Northwest for J I Case.

usually in a situation like that you need to "pick" from a higher angle due to water making ground moist. with the weight of the Army truck it would actually sink into the moist ground in the pond. you would have to pick it up and then pull it back. Could have made a poor boy's fulcrum out of some 4x4 pieces of wood or something.

The old Freightliner is a pretty good looking truck just the way that it is, but it is going to look super great when you get her all painted up and everything done, I believe that it would look great solid red, I have always liked red trucks . When I saw you head for that pond in the army truck, I thought Oh ! Shit !!! Surely not Tim, and then it goes in deep and I go he's stuck . And you all had a time getting the truck out, that old Case tractor is a monster, but it had to have a lot of help to get the truck out, but you all finally did.
