This is the season finale of Extreme Reloading's seventh season. We review all the results from this season and ask "is bullet jump really important?" or is it all about barrel
harmonics?

Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your sharing of results from your endeavors in this topic. I've found a new resource that will do much more than lend itself to my seemingly never ending quest to learn, (and be able to apply), principles and practices in my shooting activities. I'm in my late sixties and have been shooting .22's, 12 gauges, lots of trap, skeet, etc.), but mostly .30 caliber stuff since I was 11 or 12 years old and the one big thing I've learned is that you never fail to benefit from someone such as yourself if you're open to the sharing of experience with others, especially when you're humble enough to realize that the learning process, as well as the evolution process, will never stop. Thank you so very kindly for taking the time and effort to share your very insightful knowledge and experiences so that we may continue to progressively get better and better with the shooting sports. All the best and please keep up the great work. Very kind regards, 😎👍

Perhaps one way to sort out whether its bullet jump or barrel harmonics that is at play in a particular load, would be to employ a barrel tuner and see whether you can tune both bullet jump distances to the same accuracy.

That's a good idea. Thanks for posting that.

gREAT VIDEO Powder brand type, grains, velocity, and B.C.; also if you could add chamber pressure. I noticed a 0.9 fps inversely proportional to 0.1 bullet grain, which will account for a vertical spread. Need the velocity to calculate gravity drop and more precise w

Thank you Francisco. I am glad you enjoyed the video. You are correct also, there are many variables that effect our bullets. If I can get a handle on the top 10 that would be great!

I've shot some of my best groups over the years with Sierra bullets out of my .243 and 6mm Rem.

I'm curious if you've ever explored the idea that the surface of a bullet may make a noticeable difference on accuracy? By that I mean, if you loaded up, say, 50 bullets to your ideal specs but before firing took half of them and using a polishing wheel on a Dremel or similar device, polished them to a mirror-like finish, would they be more accurate? As long as the concentricity remained unaffected it seems that the near microscopic changes in flight that barrel harmonics might impart would be less than those imparted by a less than perfect physical surface on the bullet. Would a less smooth bullet fly better, like a golf ball does, or might a perfect finish allow for a more true flight? It seems to me that the Sierra and Hornady bullets look as though they come from the factory with a much more refined finish than 'lesser' brands and wonder if that may be part of the reason they're often preferred.

Hello Aaron, I am wondered about this also. I recall the original Barnes bullets years ago did not look very good. There were lots of small imperfections in the jacket and compared to other bullets like Sierra or Hornady I wondered if those small imperfections might reduce the precision. Unlike the golf ball, the imperfections highly inconsistent and if anything these should cause the bullets to fly less consistently than a polished bullet. I never did the test though, but it is tempting. I wonder if I could put the polish on with a very nice tumbler/media. You got me thinking. Thanks for watching and posting.

@@sdkweber If polishing using media or a small tube of Flitz metal polish doesn't achieve noticeable results, at least the investment in material wouldn't be that great and it might make for an interesting video that I haven't seen anyone else try their hand at.

Extreme Reloading will be back in just a few months. I am starting some lengthy experiments that will take awhile to complete. But you will learn about it when the new season begins in the fall. Plus we have some ballistic gel testing coming up. Thanks for watching and posting!

Changing the slant break on my ak to a 3 prong flash hider changed harmonics and now it's like completely different weapon. People think I am not telling the truth about how accurate it is until they shoot it.

That is very interesting. I have seen muzzle devices change point of impact in some instances. Harmonics are quite important. Thanks for watching and posting this.

Bullet jump is related to bullet exit timing and therefore harmonics
@sdkweber
@sdkweber 2 жыл бұрын
So then it is really harmonics and not so much the distance to the lands. Would you agree?
@justice1327
@justice1327 2 жыл бұрын
@@sdkweber yes that is why shooters fine-tune their load by adjusting the seating depth so they can fine-tune the harmonic node.
