Wow! Thanks a lot for explaining that to me. I don't think I will ever desire to play the 8 string but maybe one day I will live dangerously and try the 6 string. Lol! I recently purchased a Fender 5 string and I have been playing it everyday to get used to it. After your explanation of the 6 string, I now view my approach to the 5 string differently. I will try and play more vertically on it as apposed to just wanting the capability of using lower tones with the fifth string. Thanks a lot!

@scarfranc: It does not matters how "well" a musician play. It matters how "good" he is at playing. I mean, any guitarrist could play gilmour solos without much problem, but very few could create that pieces of music. That's being a good musician. Technique is only a mean to that end. So who is the best bass player?? The one that makes you feel the music and for any person there is a different feeling and a personal anwser.
@lookahere11 жыл бұрын
Lol! Well, at the end of the day, people can definitely play whatever they want. Being a "play by ear" musician myself, I will no doubt have to re-calibrate my approach in order to play the 6 string. I guess my main concern is going to be muting with an extra two strings. Also, getting used to playing on such a wider neck is a concern.

OK, I see now...you're good. Thru a close up...you're popping on the "G" string but not putting your index finger too far under the string. Ed Friedland said that too but it's great to see it in real time, close up..thanks and I will consider ordering ur dvd set if I get any free time to practice, LOL. Hey Franck, I seen in one of your other videos I think a conklin groove tools seven with a wine finish, is that what it was? Your a spectacular player and very original especially with technique I love your thumbing and sweeping techniques. Is the secret just to go slow and work your way up on the sweeping? The reason why I was asking about the conklin is because I was thinking about getting one and was wondering if you would give me a small review.

I have always played 4 string bass guitars and most of the musicians I have ever been exposed to played 4 strings as well. Every now and then I have played a 5 string. My question is this. What is the main reason for playing 6 strings? Does the sixth string move into the "lead guitar" territory when it comes to tone? I have even seen some 8 string bass guitars lately. I'm just wondering what I am missing. Great playing by the way.

@warplanes1 Dude, fancy bass playing does mean you only have to go off in jazz and funk runs. Though a band called He Is Legend utilizes slap in a cool way in their album I AM HOLLYWOOD. You can do chords on your bass and if you really want to push it, tap out chords with one hands while keeping the root note groove with the other. ;) The bass has HUGE possibilities. I'm sure you could utilize slap in your music, especially muted slapping! Experiment, man.

Technique: awesome Sound: I hate it Why are so man videos of this 80's synth sounding bass?
@1BassJohn9 жыл бұрын
James Candela When you're playing this sort of music with so many notes flying past, a more focused, precise sound is needed. You cant play this with the bass rolled all the way up, and get the same clarity. Horses for courses, as they say :)
@jamescandela79249 жыл бұрын
Not false, but you can do it with a clean unshrill sound. This is just synthy sounding pop bass. Not trying to be rude, i just like a clean sound not this synthy barking shrill. It can be done and many people have done so, including myself, but this guy is better than where I'm at right now, so I doubt he cares what I think :)
@1BassJohn9 жыл бұрын
James Candela Haha we are all progressing, but that doesn't invalidate your opinion! :) I actually own a bass right now that sounds like this in its raw form, controls flat.. what we are hearing is a very focused tone and a strong mid which is making it sound the way it does. I think the sound technically is very 'clean' but a little thin, but I do hear what you mean. I think fingerstyle this bass would sound great to .. has a nice mid to it.
@jamescandela79249 жыл бұрын
Right, and I'm sure I does sound really good, I'm just not really a fan of this particular sound. Lots of people really like it, and I get that. Everybody's taste are differnt. The technique displayed in this video is great, and that's a cool looking bass.
