Quick tip... you can run the Ozone machine before treatment as well. And let the carpet dry a bit when running the machine after treatment. The dealer that sold the vehicle ... tried to MASK the odor with some sort of chemical that I needed to remove first. It left a film behind. The cabin filter also needs to be replaced if applicable.

Maaaan I wish you would’ve posted this last month! Customers dog got sprayed by a skunk, whole car stunk like skunk. Probably a 7/10, by the time I was done it was 1/10 but I didn’t get it completely out and it bothers me to this day. Still need to go give him a free interior shampoo. Now i know I need a chemical injection steamer!

Oh man, been there. My big lab was the laziest dog ever.. he wouldn't chase anything.. ever.. except friggin skunks.. only skunks.. His entire life he'd full send on any skunk he saw and get sprayed. So we'd grab the tomato juice and walk him down to the river, usually in the middle of the night, and get the bulk of it out. I think he actually liked the smell. So someone put their freshly skunk sprayed dog inside their vehicle?? I can't imagine how bad that would be in that enclosed space, soaking into all the foam and fabric.. I think I'd just light it on fire and call it a day. Did you try some ozone treatments? I've had good luck with it.
@Ichabod_Jericho4 жыл бұрын
@@jdisdetermined unfortunately I haven’t gotten around to buying an ozone generator because of the price. I started the business 2 months ago, and I didn’t realize how powerfully odors stick on all types of services, or that customers would even call me for such a service! I did heated carpet extraction with only APC as the pre-treatment (insufficient). I should’ve at least taken a leaf blower to the air vents!! Alas I didn’t have even have a leaf blower 🤣 since then I’ve found a deodorizing shampoo and done way more research! I’ve stepped up my game, only thanks to kick ass mentors like Apex & Scott Auto Detailing & luxury microfiber in Dallas Texas 🤘I’ll never stop learning!

@@Ichabod_Jericho I hear ya. They can be crazy expensive. I got mine on a good sale for around $100, about $80 off, and it works great. It has wireless phone control and I work from my home shop, so it's handy to be able to cycle it whenever. I've slowly built up my equipment over the years too. I just have a McCulloch 1275 steamer. It works so good, I've never upgraded. I just use a spray bottle and steam together to get the vent systems and then forced air. Those big expensive injection machines look amazing though and would be awesome when you do need them. Hmm.. maybe if they give us another $1400 stimulus.. 😁👍

Very thorough as usual, good job! You mention drawing outside air for ozone generator. I am a bit more science based and when I was buying ozone generator I did some calculations. You have about 700grams of oxygen in one car at standard pressure so even if you have generator that makes 20g of ozone per hour, you will never come close to depleting oxygen in a car. So drawing outside air for ozone generator does not make a difference. For those who don`t know ozone (O3) is made in the machine out of air oxygen (O2).

Out of curiosity, what were the total labor hours put into this service? Rough approximation of cost to the consumer for a vehicle that size, and would it benefit cost wise if they were doing this presale? Great video. I was surprised you added chemical to the steamer. Is it safe to do the same with a smaller McCullough steamer - my daughter just bought a new used car and the previous owner was a smoker - I know she'd love it if the smoke smell could really be removed.
@micd92564 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t. Mix up your chemicals in a spray bottle. Then spray on surface, agitate gently, then hit the area with steam and a towel. I’d suggest you invest in a ozone generator as well. You will need it to address the AC ducts by running fans while the ozone generator is running. There are cost-effective options on Amazon. I’d also recommend removing the seats and any interior plastics like the dash and door panels during your initial cleaning. Follow-up with another ozone treatment and surface cleaning 30 days later. It’s a lot of work, but you can definitely get the smell out. And then never buy another smokers car again.
@johnschmidt7184 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the response. I have done this in the past and have the tools (including ozone generator). My wife and one other client/neighbor) has said that they still smelled a faint underlying smoke odor - no one else has ever mentioned it. The second pass with the ozone treatment is a good idea. Simply put, I was surprised to see any chemicals mixed into a steam cleaner, I am guessing that the commercial version Brian is using allows for the adding of chemicals.
@micd92564 жыл бұрын
@@johnschmidt718 I agree that having the chemicals mixed with the steam is a fantastic way to reach inside all the areas that normally would not get touched by chemical cleaning. I suppose you could roll the dice and try it. Or call McCulloch and ask. If you decide to try it, I’d run a vinegar and water mix through immediately after, and then a water only run.
@johnschmidt7184 жыл бұрын
Thank you again. I will try McCullough and see what they say, although I'm pretty sure of the reply. I'm much more likely to repeat the ozone process and hope my daughter's nose is not as sensitive as my wife's. :-)
@micd92564 жыл бұрын
@@johnschmidt718 Ozone has always been a workhorse for me. Make sure you turn on the heat and set to recirculate. If it’s a sedan with a trunk, run a separate cycle in there , and remove and thoroughly clean and wipe down the spare and jack if present. You may also need to replace speakers if they are the typical stock paper cone type.
@AntEloftheHouseofEl4 жыл бұрын
Wow Brian, that is a lot of work! Very thorough! I must admit I've never gone anywhere near that far! But we do have a good range of enzymatic smoke bombs here in the UK. Just switch on the engine, set the air system to recirculate, set off the bomb, close the door and leave it. Works really well to be fair and its anti bacterial aswell.

Smoke is made up of small particles of soot. Tiny sticky particles. They need to be cleaned before addressing odor. Too many go after the odor enzymes without addressing the soot first. You do need to wait until interior is completely dry for ozone to be effective.
