That’s the Mega coal trains BNSF is doing. Still even though it has 8 engines, this one is an empty and they typically only have 4 of those 8 engines online and running. Generally it’s 1 online and 1 isolated on the front, 1 isolated 2 online and 1 isolated in the middle, and 1 online and 1 isolated on the rear, and even then there’s still a notch 6 or 7 restriction. Now if it’s loaded they run all 8 with no throttle restriction.

I recognised that intersection like I grew up here; Mountain Avenue and Mason Street. Not very many years ago, the train ran in the middle of the street with no curb at all between blocks. Coal unit trains in Fort Collins; my father covered the first ones for the Denver Post, nearly half a century ago. By the way, those are all empties rolling north.

Combo trains, first half from one plant while the second half came from another, two trains put together at a yard heading back to the PRB or Montana only to be broken up in two separate trains again before reloading, it's the same thing done to grain trains and other combos such as grain/ oil, grain/ coal, or coal/oil trains, we got numerous combo trains on a regular basis.

The railway from Brisbane to Cairns runs through Rockhampton on Denison Street. The train staff for the section had a bell on the end of it which one of the crew would ring out the window. Not sure if they still do that now. The track is set into the road and cars can drive over it. There is an old style pub in the middle of Dennison St and I have stayed in it a couple of times and looked over the railway from the balcony. The other one in Wycheproof runs in a median strip with mown grass.

@@noctuanecatrix I was thinking the same thing in that it would really piss me off waiting! I counted 199 cars. I have a CN branchline which runs behind my house, in which they are using for a commuter train line during the day so no long freights then. A train full of loaded cars runs by at about 11.30 at night, then a train with empties runs by around 3AM. If I'm up, I'll run and count the cars, which can average between 50 and 100. Heading west, they "pour on the coal" as they head out of town and are going pretty quick, maybe 40MPH by the time the last car passes. coming east, they are coming into town so they already start to slow down before my place. They used to run during the day like that until the push for the GO trains to and from Toronto. It pissed me off during the day with the 100 car train. I can't imagine 200! Plus, how slow they have to go! That's crazy!

Can you tell me if Fort Collins, in 2024 still looks like this today? Is the street running still in tact and does it look the same as it does in this video? I've always loved the street running action in this area from back in the day.

what is different about the 5th middle engine that it's painted in like...cream/bone and spruce green?
@Link84512 жыл бұрын
that engine is a former Burlington northern engine which was the predecessor to BNSF so it still has the original colors
@Blippity_Bloop642 жыл бұрын
BN painted a series of engines in what is known as the "Executive Paint Scheme". It was a departure from their normal livery. It is also referred to as "Grinstein Green", after the president of BN at the time. I believe even some were painted this way after the merger. Since then, some have been repainted, but I'm pretty sure the green/creme livery was never standard for BN.

I do not know why precision railroading is allowed on street running trains. This is a safety issue cutting a large town in half for 1/5th of an hour. Just wait until the inevitable derailment from deferred maintenance on rolling stock.

Tracks were there long before the town. People don't like the train, shouldn't have built the town next to and in this case on both side of the track.

@randallellison64212 жыл бұрын
Actually the GEs (now Wabtech) units crank out 4,400hp while the SD70ACe puts out 4,300hp and the SD70MACs are running at 4,000hp. The one exception could be the SD70MAC that's in BNSF's H3 (aka premium heritage or wedge) scheme. Those units were rebuilt and are now classified as SD70MACe, the "e" meaning enhanced. They recieved new electrical components and while I can't really confirm this, there were reports that their horsepower was boosted to 4,300hp, again not confirming that, it's just something I had heard.
