Right. I don't know if it's the heat, the elections or that a lot of people have shoes that hurt their feet, but this week we've seen an explosion of negative, aggressive, unconstructive and downright insulting comments on our videos, especially this one. These are directed at us but also at other commenters. So a reminder: We work very, very hard on our videos. We employ a professional to help us and we personally spend a lot of time on them. We make absolutely no money from these public videos. We are doing it to record our work, of which we are proud, and to perhaps contribute a little positivity to a world that seems very negative and divided right now. In return, we expect respect. If you don't like us, turn off. We and our lives are not a soap opera. This is not a diary vlog. It follows our work, not our personal lives. If you want to make constructive suggestions about our projects then we welcome them, but please frame them kindly. And never, ever attack somebody else in our comments section. We take that very seriously. I will be wasting my time this morning deleting comments (which I haven't needed to do before), and if it continues, then I will not hesitate to remove the ability for specific individuals to comment, because we want to keep this as an uplifting, positive space for the vast majority of people who value this. It's water off a duck's back when I am insulted, and thankfully my family don't read the comments, but I hate the way that some of our most beloved supporters and friends get upset on our behalf when they witness pointless negativity. There are enough really bad things and bad people in the world right now that getting wound up about a garden shed and some random people on KZbin is completely ridiculous. If it makes you so angry, unsubscribe, take a deep breath, go for a walk and treat yourself to something nice, because you deserve to be happy. Peace out!

Nicely put 🥰🥰🥰 It is worst when people we care about feel more affected with the negativity addressed to us. In the occasions that this have happened to me, the Mama Bear inside me growls and claws come out to play.

Wow Amy! You tackled that grouting so good! Well done!! 👏👏 Those plants will be so happy from now on!😀👏 It is so hard replanting sometimes. My husband and I replanted all of our Agapanthus plants in the autumn last year. They were huge. And still they kept making so many lovely flowers. But they had grown out of their pots long ago and we hade to give them more space. I think we had about 6 big pots. And we hade to smash at lest 3 of them 😔Couldn't get the plant out otherwise. We divided them and gave them new pots. We thought they'd be happy and be full of flowers as usual. But apparently its been a bit hard on them, so we have only had one single flower this year, and that flower accidentally broke before it was a full beautiful ball of blue bells 😢 But they (all 10) have grown over the summer and looks very green and happy. So hopefully next year we will have our garden blossoming with all those beautiful floweres again 🙏🤞🤞

Always good to learn a new skill too well done Amy :) teamwork is the best way to do any project :) I hope the rest time will help Marc feel better :) I am glad those trees finally got their due care to get some of the growth and sunshine they need :) those pots will make great starters for other plantings too :) but I am surprised you didn't put them directly into the ground as this was more repotting than transplanting.

Those plastic pots would make great pots to grow Tomato plants in close to kitchen door or your outside eating area. I have also used those large plastic pots to grow zucchini in... or .. pepper plants. When I plant a veggie in the pot I also include some type of flower to prettify the vegetable plant and attract pollinators to it. The plastic pots can be moved about the yard to where they do best for sun, heat or even frost resistance in autumn. Before adding soil to pot I line it with a little reused plastic sheeting to create a 1 inch or 3 cm reservoir for water, then add a layer of last year's fall leaves to promote root nematodes to soil in pot and additional moisture retention, then whatever soil mix you have handy, I would never use bagged, bought, soil for whole of pot because that soil has been sterilized, perhaps to amend the garden soil I use or part of last years potting soil. Compost from my kitchen is good to add too.. Egg shells anyone? Coffee Grounds? Banana peels? mixed into garden or previous year's potting soil is OK too. Gardening is science and experimentation combined, trial and error to find what works best for your environment. Have fun experimenting and harvesting the produce.

@@LostGardensofChateauRosieres Yes I too have had a huge vegetable garden, but it was farther away from the kitchen and sometimes I would forget to check on it as often, but pots of tomatoes near the kitchen door were hard to ignore as a reminder and also notification system that the tomatoes where ready for picking. Plus, you can't help but pick a few tiny tomatoes as you walk by and sample them. This works especially for the children, so they have a healthy snack without prompting... LOL. I read somewhere when you have a few veggies at the door it reminds you to include them in your cooking or as garnish to the plate because they are so handy and close to the kitchen. Let's face it, Sweet 100 tomatoes are as delicious to nibble on as strawberries when easily assessible, and so refreshing and healthy for you, and easy to water close to the kitchen door.

I'm not the botanist here and Marc's not at home to ask, but I think there's something about disturbing the roots. I'll try to remember to ask him because it's not like him to pass up an opportunity to get more plants!

PS I've cleaned up the comments section of this video today (first time I've ever had to) because we're trying to be a place of light and positivity. It's just not what we're about. We hugely appreciate you being a long-time watcher and (I think, but I'm not entirely sure right now) supporter of us, but I'm afraid I did need to delete the argument because it wasn't a good vibe and was upsetting people (we're all about the peace and love). I hope you're having a good summer and it's not too hot in LA!

Ohhhh - I've just checked in the 'notifications' section of this video and I can see the start of a comment you made about us having systematic problems with the way we go about things. Weirdly the comment didn't appear on the actual comments section, which must be why you thought I deleted it. Sometimes this happens. I think it's when other people report things, or KZbin quarantines potentially offensive comments (I have the settings set to strict). Dunno. But I can't see the full comment, other than it starting as a rant about us and our approach to our work. Not cool, friend, not cool. Surely you're intelligent enough to realise that there are multiple factors and challenges going on behind the scenes in a project like this? Like a major accident, or small children being ill. And that employing a videographer and needing to plan in advance means that sometimes we have to continue with a project on a day when we otherwise might not have done. We do what we can with what we've got.

re the plant pots far too small for such large trees ?
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres 2 ай бұрын
@jeojeo9393 It's a valid question that a few people have asked. When I checked with Marc I got an interesting lecture about the very special root systems of cycads. Apparently they're unusual and very delicate so you don't want to mess with them! I recommend looking them up because I'm not sure I'm the right person to try and paraphrase it here!

I do not know anything about the palm you are replanting but they are clearly root bound and I wonder why you did not take the opportunity to get two nicer, larger pots for them.

Marc is a horticulturalist and they were not root bound. They work with what they have, allowing them to do more, in general.
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres

OK I asked Marc for the botanist reason (because I don't really know anything about plants). Apparently they're a very particular type of root system that you have to be extremely careful not to disturb. So they were providing more and better soil, but not disturbing the roots so as not to kill them.

You are making a lot more work for yourself without having the proper tools, which aren’t that expensive. Get a float and a big sponge and two buckets, one to mix the grout and one with clean water. An extra sponge for the milk. Replace the water often. Do not leave the grout too long before cleaning the tiles or you will never get it off.

It’s always hard to make people understand quite how remote we are. It takes a full day to go to the DIY store. At this point Marc couldn’t drive and wasn’t really fit to look after the kids so without childcare I couldn’t go to the DIY store and besides I was so, so, so, so, so ridiculously and overwhelmingly busy that I couldn’t have spared the time. Sometimes we have to make do with what we have, and remember to get the tools we realised we needed the next time we make an expedition to the shops.

@@LostGardensofChateauRosieres I’ve only recently been watching the garden so don’t know how remote you are. I still recommend getting at least some of the proper tools, even if it means delaying a bit until after a planned shopping trip. I imagine you might do some other tile work so having a float, some big sponges and a few buckets would be handy for other jobs. I have no idea what responses I stirred up. Just trying to be helpful as I’ve done some DIY tiling around my own house as well as a few other things. I’m 69 so have picked up some experience along the way. You could make a home made float with a piece of wood, handle on the back and then staple some rubber around it. Something about 15 cm x 30 cm.

We definitely learn from each new task and get more tools each time. Sometimes I feel it's better to try something first in order to find what you're missing. But in terms of putting off a job until after a shopping trip - with the kids and the distance, we go to the large DIY stores at most once every two months. So if it's at all possible to make do on a small project like this then we do what we can, otherwise we'd never move forward! Also we have somebody coming to film us now so we have to get on with things when he's here or we'd never have any interesting videos! None of it's ideal, but with a project this size, and with so many constantly changing factors, it's important to be able to make the best of what we have, and not wait for ideal circumstances! However my list for Tool Station has definitely grown after doing the grouting and I look forward to doing much more in future!

oh... I forgot to mention how much I got a kick out of your coveralls and the passive aggressive old kitty, I had a kitty (Ruby 2 Shoes was his name), he was super jealous of my new boyfriend, it wasn't at all nice what he did to my boyfriend's clothes no matter where they were. Don't know if it was my kitty or me, that boyfriend didn't last very long in my life.

Cycads are a special case. What you can see is are coralloid roots whose function is to absorb nitrogen. It’s important not to disturb them! (Marc’s a botanist).

You never, ever cut a Bernese mountain dog’s fur. They are double coat dogs so they shed. Shaving destroys the coat and they end up overheating in summer. She gets washed and brushed but she’s also a farm dog so when she’s outdoors every day and when it rains every single day then she looks straggly and bedraggled. But she’s not a poodle, she’s a mountain dog!
