Watch how I modified the Bow and Anchor light for this Whaler 13 restoration. The navigation light is a stainless reproduction that came with a terrible led, I found a perfect replacement socket and led for it! I used a Perko anchor light and modified it to fit the traditional Whaler stern light fittings. I also used SAE 12v connectors for the anchor light which are much cleaner and waterproof than the traditional terminal strip.
Here are some affiliate links to parts I used in this video:

for the stern light, the LED is special in that it is non-polarized, or at least mine was. so since it will not be "re-lamped" it is not crucial to make red positive. It glows in either direction. One added feature I did was make a half sleeve to cut the forward facing light while under way.

A stern light only faces aft, this is your all round mast light which is an accepted way of displaying lights for a vessel
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the correction. Also known as an anchor light, correct?
@mjobrien69
@mjobrien69 3 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeDIYGuy could be used for that sure, but normally that's a forward all round light for a vessel under 50 metres. You just have to turn off your nav lights (red and green). But as they're optional for a vessel under 7 metres and 7kts, it is all a bit of a grey area as you could be at anchor or making way 😉 It's good in that case to have the nav lights and the most important thing is to be seen at the end of the day 🤘The red and Green (and a 135 degree stern light) lights are to determine aspect so the correct actions maybe taken to avoid collision.

Really learning a lot here , can you share the wiring guide for your whole setup - Also a few questions - what drill bit size for the hole for the bow light? And can this be done with all butt connectors- ie no soldering
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I'm working on putting a diagram together and will add it to the description when I'm done. If I remember correctly, I used a 1/2" bit
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Forgot to add, you can do most of this with Butt Connectors but would use the heat shrink ones. It might be a little tight at the bow light though.

Hi Joe! I just saw this video. Great job with this! I need to do the same thing on a 1974 11' Whaler I just bought. Can you please tell me where you sourced the hardware for the terminal connectors as well as the much improved LED bulbs? I love this set-up and would like to make some of the same moves on my new boat. Getting it set up for my 14 year old twins who are getting into boating and I want to keep them safe!! -Sean

When installing the anchor light mounts, did you use the BW “hockey puck” method? Or did you just drill into the foam and seal it off with 5200? I ask because I have heard that the “hockey puck” method doesn’t work as advertised and delaminates the fiberglass. Thanks.
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 11 ай бұрын
Just drilled into the fiberglass and used a 3m 4200 equivalent

Is your jack plate hydraulic or manual ?? I’m looking to get one and found some manual ones for like $220. And the hydraulic ones for $1,200 and up. What brand is yours ?

Hi, it's fixed in place so there is no adjusting it other than moving the plate or the engine when mounting. It's made by CMC, here's an affiliate link to one. amzn.to/3hwDBGg

Awesome job! Ive been following for months as I've been restoring my '69...How did you go about flipping the boat back over and onto the trailer without jacking up that new finish? I'm in the process of laying down the last couple coats of paint on the hull and was just curious if you had any poimters bc I'm definitely a little nervous about that move lol.
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, it was fairly easy. The 2x4's it was resting on were padded so we simply flipped it over right on to the 2x4's. Then we backed the trailer up to the boat and between my son and I lifted the bow to where the keel was resting on the first roller. After that, we just pushed it on, went on smooth as silk! BTW, if you used a two part poly on your hull, I wouldn't worry. That stuff is hard as a rock. I've been a little brutal with it taking it out and it looks as if it were just painted!
