Hot take: Ares isn't stupid for making Kratos kill his family, rather, Ares never really valued the concept of family to begin with. Look at Ares' parents, Zeus was obviously always a peace of crap, and from what we saw of Hera in GOW3, she didn't really seam like a great mother ether. On top of that, Ares abandoned his own son Orcos just because he didn't turn out to be the warrior he wanted him to be in Ascension. Ares never really valued "family" at all. We all think that others think the same way we do. Ares simply assumed that Kratos had the same outlook on "family" as him, they both had a similar level of ambition and bloodlust after all. That and Kratos and his wife did argue a lot as well, that's all Ares saw. Ares looked at Kratos and was like "he just like me fr fr!" Ares didn't know that Kratos appreciated "family" more than he ever could.

But I dont think Ares even thought that Kratos would walk away from him. Kratos was a perfect, mortal mini-Ares during his servitude, did unspeakable acts of violence and genocide, killing children and innocents all the time basically. Ares just thought he would get over it and embrace his path even more.

Hot take: Poseidon and Hades die wayyy too early on in the story of GOW3. It kinda breaks the tension of the story. Imagine the entire game hyping up kratos to fight the big 3 of Olympus and made it seem like a MOUNTAIN of a job. Similar to how they hyped up facing Ares in GOW1. Instead Poseidon and Hades are literally the first two that die.

The problem isnt that they died too early, its only an issue cause between fighting Hades and Hercules there isnt any real, olympian boss fight. If there had been an true Helios boss fight or Artemis and Apollo after killing Hades and returning from the Underworld, it wouldnt be so noticable. GoW 3 dropped the ball on the GoW 2 hype up and cliff-hanger definetly, but after this Ragnarok which lasted shorter than Ironwood one must appreciate GoW 3 for what it still delivered.- If only these PS4 era 40 hour "blockbusters" would have been made with the same spirit as the OG series.

​@vlad_47 I think Poseidon died much too early. A god of that power and importance shouldn't be killed in the first ten minutes. I was quite disappointed by that at the time. This killed the hype for me that you mentioned. But yes, at least it wasn't Ragnarok levels of disappointment (I really like the new games though (but I dislike that we will probably not get a new God of War in the old hack and slash style)).

Completely agree. I had the exact same thought playing GOW3 for the first time in 2010. The second most powerful God in the Greek Pantheon dies cowering like a little bitch 30 minutes into a 6 hour game. In the QTE he literally goes down with no fight at all and doesn't get a single swing in unless you miss one of the prompts. I thought it was just disrespectful to the character. It meant that none of the other fights in the game up until Zeus himself (maybe Hades) felt like they had stakes to me. Something that also constantly bugged me and REALLY hurt the main plot of the game to me was that nobody even seemed to bat an eye that the other Gods were dead aside from Hades and Hera. Right after Kratos falls from Olympus into the Underworld, Athena comes up to him trying to help. Saying "Zeus will not fall as easily as Ares" and saying I need to get to the Flame of Olympus. Helios saying "you will never defeat Zeus." Hermes and Hercules picking fights. Like... do none of you realize I literally killed POSEIDON with my bare hands and HADES by stealing his own weapon?!?!?! The commonly accepted second and third most powerful beings in Greek Mythology? It made Kratos feel impossibly strong and overpowered to me. He even takes down Hades (on the level of Zeus and Poseidon) when he's near his lowest power level in the game. Ultimately the reason they had to kill Poseidon first is that they needed a big, epic battle to open the game, as was tradition with God of War Games up to that point. The opening sequence is still spectacular in the literal sense of the word to this day. But it came at the cost of breaking the tension for the rest of the game up until Zeus.

@@HammerHead129 God of War adherred to mythology that while Poseidon and Hades are very powerful, Zeus the Father of Olympus still towers above them. Thats portrayed clearly in the novels aswell, if not obvious in-game already how Zeus is in his own league entirely. While Poseidon and Hades gang up on Atlas, Zeus is the one who literally channels all reality with his blood and power and creates the Blade of Olympus, one-shooting all the Titans at once. In Novels, just as in OG Greek Mythology, his brothers are greatly fearful of Zeus and his temper. Kratos is the next in-line the Cycle of Patricide. The Son of Zeus, destined to overcome his father. For me its no surprise at all that he was able to man-handle Poseidon and Hades like that, and that only Zeus posed a real challenge to him, even if counting in the Norse fights where he just holds back and low-diffs everyone lol

Ares had a purpose for tricking Kratos into killing his wife and daughter. He wanted to make him stronger by literally cutting off any connections he has to his mortal life. He felt his devotion to his family made him weak. Athena did something similar in GOW: Ghost of Sparta. After Kratos killed his mother and watching Deimos die battling Thanatos, Athena showed up later to make Kratos a god. She felt he was ready once all his earthly ties were severed.

Its no difference really. If anything its better that way cause in the other games you need to upgrade magic and weapons separetly which takes alot of orbs, while in 3 you can upgrade both the weapons and their magic attacks at once.

HOT TAKE: I think gow should step down a little bit in the story department and focus more on gameplay and the scale and make the main story Linear with 1, or 2 dlcs like making crater a dlc and valhalla dlc. I mean whats the point of making a big story plot in gow 2018 if half of the things doesnt even get answered in the sequel. The time and resources which takes to make all the 20 hours cutscenes could be utilised in more main bosses, bigger setpieces and scale. for example avoiding walky talky atreus sections, no boats or sleds, fighting surtr, more norse bosses such as hodr, forseti etc. Imagine only good optional bosses and locations(realms) included in the main story no filler mobs, every encounter feeling neccesary to the story and epic in scale and mechanics. And Instead of the rpg system make it more like valhalla(not random) like only few slots to fill in. Imagine making an 1 or 2 armor sets which are cruical for the plot like god armor on gow2. Edit: and make the dialouge during gameplay less and to the point and increase the volume of soundtrack( Saw the forge scene through your Ranking the realms video).

One thing that I noticed and it's consistent among all of them we saw so far, they have a good number of weapons at their disposal. Kratos speaks for himself. Ares, had an axe, a hammer, that was also a flamethrower, a sword, and his weird appendages thingys on his back. Tyr has a spear and shield, the Aztec club sword, the Egyptian curved swords, and the Katana.

Ares lackeys weapon, the Blades of Chaos for which he had already possessed an equal replacement, is very high tier in the Norse world but in the Greek one it was fodder. Ares arsenal packs a way bigger punch, not to mention them being in a literal titanic size. Tyr gets his arsenal as some gifts from other cultures, while Ares get his from Hephaestus himself, forged in hadean forges.

In Ares's defense, I don't find him boasting to Kratos that he is the one who made him kill his family an idiotic move, but instead, a god being a god. In my headcanon, Ares had every right to taunt Kratos because he is a god, because it's unfathomable to Ares to acknowledge any sort of consequence, because there's never been a mortal who dared or even successfully defied a god and lived to tell the tale. Even though Ares planned everything, he never once considered planning for his defeat, which wasn't a problem of intelligence, but a problem of godly hubris.

funny enough, the main driving force for Ares plans regarding Olympus and all that (corrupting the Furies, making Kratos his weapon, getting the Box, Sieging Athens, etc...) is because Zeus has Athena as the favored child. To the point it dirves Ares up the wall with anger that she gets all the praise and love while he is always second best. His whole stuff with Aphrodite might be genuine or not as she loves power and might, but he's bedding the wife of his bro Hephy, who makes his armor and gear (Ascension multiplayer lore).

Hot take Ares never plaind it. What if athena did it to stop kratos scene she knew he was the marked warrior from the ghost of sparta...told the furies to take his family there or she took them. The furies were trying to complete the oath. And ares saw kratos morne his loss and tried to motivate him with the thought of even more power. Like kratos told atreus to train after fenrir died, and it backfired. The point is that the gods saw ares chapion, and athena took action to stop kratos. Ares tried to comfort him and failed. Now the plot for ares was to use the marked warrior to bring down the olypus, not kill kratos family.

Hot take: Ragnarok is the weakest in the franchise (excluding betrayal) It attempts to do so much and underperforms in every way. Too many story lines that feel like a jumbled rushed mess like freya; we spend all of 2018 developing the relationship with her and kratos, leaving them as enemies even if kratos doesn't see her as one. Ragnarok follows that up by "repairing" that relationship in a 1-hour mission and a few cutscenses and boom- bffs again. Another example is thor and odin- spending all of 2018 hyping them up as genuinely evil and malicious gods. Ragnarok gives us a depressed alcoholic dad with daughter issues and a dude that feels more like a marvel villain than a god who would be willing to torture Mimir for over a century. Sure he offed Brok but that's really the only thing he did and that was for the "all is lost moment" - it felt forced. Then we get their boss fights which are ridiculously underwhelming. What? 2 back-to-back arena fights? What a joke. Only improved thing was the combat. The dual valkyrye and berserkers or some of the best fights in the norse games. It makes me treat valhalla and Ragnarok as two separate entities. The quality difference in their direction is ridiculous. It takes whay few things Ragnarok did good like kratos and combat and boosts that to the max. It gives a perfect close to kratos' story. Been a fan of the franchise for about a decade. Loved what 2018 did but felt underwhelmed with Ragnarok, then valhalla improved upon Ragnarok greatly. Though Ragnarok by itself- is the weakest entry in the franchise. TL:DR Ragnarok is underwhelming, it takes what 2018 did and half-asses it. Rushing character arcs, under delivers with thor and odin in story and boss fights. Only good thing is combat. Valhalla is great but Ragnarok in itself- is still weak.

It tried to be GoW 2 + GoW 3 + 2018 combined and failed utterly at it. Such a failed sequal that it actually rubs off on 2018, a game whose many flaws were contained by the build up and promise of an epic Ragnarok sequal. And Valhalla was just an boring therapy session, ignoring the GoW 3 final arc where Kratos already moved on and forgave himself. Instead of doing an real and respect-showing send off to the Greek Saga, they just tripled down on that whole whinny and emotional Kratos thing from Ragnarok.

Hot take: The battering ram in ragnarok couldve been better. There are these red explosive pots in svartalfheim, right? Using battering ram with an enemy to rush against these pots will cause the pots to explode. But kratos will still take damage? Like yeah logically of course kratos would take damage. But like from a game design point, using the enemy to ram into an explosion just feels like it should be something that makes kratos invincible against the explosion itself. I just wanted a sort of reward for coming up with these high brain tactics but instead, it would be more efficient to wale on the enemy normally

Hot take: In the Let's Argue series I See a lot of hot takes saying the god of War 3 secondary weapon is bad because they are similar to the blades. but in my opinion, what makes God of War 3 secondary weapons good is they similar to blades. because all of them are fast and have good range and the amazing combat grapple and cyclone of chaos type attack and Orion's Harpoon. and Even with their similarity, they are also different in their own way. The Claws of Hades have the best crowd control and the most unique magic attack, the Nemean cestus is a very fast and strong tool, and the Nemesis whip is your fast set-up weapon. also, I see a lot of people say the Blade of Olympos is supposed to be a secondary weapon and not a rage mod but let's be honest. I love Blade of Olympos but if they make him a secondary weapon he will not be as good as the other weapons. I mean he will not have combat grapple and also be slower and have bad crowd control compared to other weapon

God of War 4 difficulty is broken. The first time I tried to beat gow 4 I chose God of War difficulty, and while the bosses were completely beatable, some simple enemies were just insanely hard. After 12 hours I had to drop the game because spending hours trying to beat a f*ing draugur was just too boring for me. After a year I have completed the game on hard difficulty.

Ares was a beast in both the game and its novel. Embodying war to the point of seeing future and past conflicts like WW2, Iraq etc. For Tyr being an God of War was a title, as is for any Aesir "god", they have no real domains. Ares was born for it. There is no single Norse God that has matched his feats and depictions of his and fellow Olympians devinity in the Greek games and novels. And the same is now true for Kratos, being some symbolic, norse-style God of War in "Freya's council" lol Let me tell you one thing, Freya's council isnt Olympus. Asgard, the minecraft village wasnt Olympus either. The lack of meta-physical domains and lack of control over creation and those who live in it is undeniable and obvious. Kratos Olympian reign is hard to judge, its unknown how he approached and handled his duties before his Ghost of Sparta breakdown. The Ambrosia comic is the only depiction of that unfortunately.

I think you're using sarcasm. On a real note tho, I'm tired of the "holding back" thing. It can't be that in every case Kratos gets overpowered. And if it is the case, the Kratos I know never gives the enemy a chance in the midst of battle. He might warn them beforehand about catching these hands, but never thinking twice about the life of the opp when in combat. Just not in character. That's why I don't believe in the "holding back" shtick. In some cases, he might be. But let's not act like he was "holding back" against Tyr here.

Another Let's Argue video? Zesty sure has been spoiling us lately! Oh, and as for a Hot Take: People often say that Deimos reconciles with Kratos far too quickly in Ghost of Sparta, but I disagree. Yes, his sudden shift in attitude from being enraged at Kratos to forgiving him a few minutes later may come off as a bit abrupt at first, but it does make sense to a certain extent. Think about it, even with Deimos beating him up and telling him that he hates him, Kratos is still willing to save his brother despite that, and after seeing just how much Kratos genuinely wants to save him, Deimos finally lets go of that superficial anger that he let build up for all these years and forgives Kratos. Sure, the execution may not have been perfect and more could have been done with it, but I do believe it was handled decently well and wasn't as rushed as a lot of people make it out to be.
