In today's video i defend my favorite game of all time. God of War 3, in a gaming sins video that Dartigan made, i know Gaming Sins video's are not meant to be taken seriously, but i mean. come on it's fun to discuss stuff.

Extra sins! 2:18 It's funny that both Dartigan and Zesty didn't realize that the monsters are on the side of the Gods, fighting against the Spartan army that Kratos saved at the end of GOW2. DING! 5:57 Kratos doesn't die here. We never SEE him die (he just falls), the Judges reject him, and Hades treats him as an alive person (probably because he wanted to kill him himself). I'll let him have that one. 26:21 IF Athena planned to rule Olympus all along, dying is a much better option for her. The reason she sacrificed herself is to ascend to a higher plane because of her selfless act. In this form she's a) unsuspected by other Gods and doesn't need to pretend to be involved in the War; b) unaffected by the world dying (like Hera, for example); c) Is literally a ghost who can interact with the world, but the world can't really do anything to her. Sacrificing herself is a better option here, again IF she was planning this all along. Doesn't seem to be the case though. DING! 8 extra sins here, please!

17:50 is such a bad criticism imo. i thought the whole point of him becoming attached to pandora was because it reminded him of calliope. it was like the daughter kratos didn’t have anymore. the only thing kratos ever really cared about was his wife and child. i don’t think him becoming attached the calliope was him trying to be redeem as a hero. i think it just showed really why kratos was doing all of this in the first place. his distrust of the gods all stemmed from him being tricked into killing his family. i think it shows how kratos is a broken man, driven by revenge. but he still has a soft spot for someone that i think is supposed to kind of represent his daughter. i also think that is why at 23:15 zeus said this

Also I have to disagree with you saying that god of war 3 tried to redeem kratos. They didn't try to redeem him. They make it clear when kratos wants to not let pandora go because she reminds him of his daughter, but when zeus provokes him, he lets go and rages out. This indicates that kratos wants to do better but is too blinded by rage. When he finally kills zeues, he even says his vengeance has ended and stabbed himself as a final duty to mankind. God of war 3 never tried to redeem kratos

Going to have to give you some mythology knowledge for Hermes for the sin at 4:42. He is the god of a lot of things from thieves to travelers. One sphere of influence he shares with Apollo is healers. More specifically the travelling paramedic kinds. A primary symbol of paramedics today is the Caduceus which is the staff Hermes himself wields. In my mind it is totally in keeping with myth to have a plague of potentially disease carrying insects swarm out of Hermes after his death as he deals with protecting healers traveling to their duties.

He solved the puzzle of Hera's garden by looking through the eye of the statue with the gem. And Kratos's dead daughter is pretty much at the center of his trauma. It's been that way since the first game so its not trying to be some redemption arc. Him seeing Pandora who has the appearance of a young girl like his daughter would more than likely trigger that trauma. Thats why he goes into dad mode for her so much.

Actually, if we're assuming gameplay reasoning is even somewhat canon, Kratos can only use the wings for a limited amount of time, and falling too far with them will lead to losing all air control and just falling straight down. The only time he can use it for a while is when there is an air current he can ride along (IDK I'm trying to make it make sense). Anyway, I know you said that the Gaming Sins videos are just for fun and jokes, but they really aren't. They (at least the one you used specifically) narrate it like it's an actual critique, there is no joking tone used. Hell, it is one because you even find yourself agreeing at times which wouldn't really happen if it was all meant to be jokes. For example, he asks why did Kratos get mad at Hera for insulting Pandora? Because Kratos isn't in a father/daughter relationship with Pandora, he's projecting the image of Calliope onto Pandora. He sees Calliope in Pandora and wants to protect her because of it. His real daughter may be dead, but Pandora is alive. Remember, Calliope died by Kratos' hand, it was all his fault, really. Now, Kratos is going to get Pandora killed for his revenge, which is exactly why when he has to let her go, he screams in anger at not only the mental struggle he is going through, but he's also angry at himself. Once again, his own selfish desire caused the death of another "little girl". Had he not gone on this whole crusade, she would have lived, at least for longer than she did. That's why he attacks Zeus with renewed vigor because now he HAS to succeed. He just sacrificed the closest thing he had to someone he cared about for it. Contrast this with God of War (2018), where Kratos throws himself into danger constantly for his kid, and has no regard for his own wants or safety, only the safety of his son. That's one of the main changes there. This works nicely with the ending of GOW 3, Kratos realized with his revenge satisfied, that not only does he not feel any better but with no rage clouding his judgment, he can now open his eyes to all the destruction he has caused. Again, in GOW 4, we see Kratos telling Baldur that revenge won't make him feel better, only empty. Or how about when people ask why is Athena helping Kratos kill Zeus? Because she's manipulating him for his own gains, obviously. That's easily seen in the ending. It's not different from how Gaia played Kratos. They used him for their own endgame. Athena wanted Zeus out of the picture because she wanted to take over Olympus and the ultimate power of Hope. That is why she asks for it, so she can now receive the power to kill Gods. When Kratos opts to kill himself instead, she yells at him, and pulls the blade out of his body forcefully and messily. She speaks to him with disgust, as if he is a mere fool that doesn't even know what he's doing. Wherever Athena is in magical Godhood land, it has clearly corrupted her, or at least she is showing her true self as she doesn't have to fear Zeus since she's just a spirit with no fear of death. This is again seen in GOW 4 where Kratos is tormented by her, and she just sits there with a smile on her face as he has to face his past. Once Kratos tells her she has no power over him, both emotionally and physically, she disappears and never comes back for the rest of the game. This is because Kratos is now using the Blades to protect, not destroy. I may have wrote all this but this is all easily understood if you have played the main 4 GOW games.

There's 2 sins that you forgot. I might be late on this but in the Poseidon fight, Kratos never snapped his neck, he gouged his eyes out. Also, in the cutscene before the Hercules fight, He says that Kratos killed Deimos in God of War: Ghost of Sparta. That is wrong. Deimos was killed by Thanatos. Thanatos was killed by Kratos afterwards.

Why does everyone insist Kratos is the villain. He isnt the villain or hero. He gets revenge on the Gods because they used him and then killed him (tried to atleast) and its shown several times throught the games that Zeus and the gods dont really care for humankind. At the end of GoW 3 he literally gives the power if hope, stated by Athena to be the strongest power ever, to humankind after the world fell to ruin. The Evills inside the box that were possessing the gods are the things that got out of them when they died hence the same thing happened tô Kratos when he stabbed himself tô release Hope, Hope is the Power that neutralize the evills that were empowering the gods but were making then mad, Zeus became imortal because of the evill possessing him, the same Deal was for Ares but Ares was possessed by an evill that was not inside the box but Hope killed him alright hence the evill possessing Ares had the same qualities of the evills inside the box, and I can Go deeper Áthena was possessed by two evills one that she released in GOW 2 after being stabbed and one in GOW 3 that made her Go Astral mode like Zeus.

Well, he became a mortal when Zeus took away his godhood in the beginning of gow 2 and tricked him into draining the rest of his godly power into the blade of Olympus. He was mortal before he died. I think he is counted as a god again when he absorbs Hades' soul. I always assumed that Athena was corrupted by greed and her death-and subsequent revival in atherial form-is the driving force that let her come up with the plan to destroy Zeus. Or maybe she did legitimately think that destroying Olympus and using the power of hope later would be best for humanity because of some new higher insight

Technically Kratos was born a god since he’s Zeus’s son but he didn’t know until ghost of Sparta, so he had godly power the whole time just something similar with Atreus; he believed himself to be mortal so he acted mortal until he found out he wasn’t.

Hephaestus DID NOT agree to sacrifice pandora for the death of zeus he lied because he thought of a plan of sending kratos to tartarus and getting him killed by cronos to save pandora from dying but when kratos survives he attempts a backup plan of trying to kill kratos by shocking him but that fails again and then RIP hephaestus

The only reason Hepheastus agrees to use pandor to open the box is to trick kratos so he can kill him. I agree that the dynamic between Kratos and Pandora is goofy at times but i never took it as the game trying to redeem him. That is the norse games. In 3, they're just showing you the little bit of humanity he has left and trying to make you empathize with him. In the end he sacrifices her anyway and is unable to overcome his rage and need for vengeance. This is the same reason he sacrifices Poseidon's sex slave, he is blinded by rage and just trying to accomplish his goals as quickly and easily as possible. For pandoras box, i thought that Zeus was under the impression that he removed the powers from kratos when he killed him in 2, but then it is kind of weird that he's surprised to see that the box is empy. Maybe he thought the evils just magically went back in the box? Lol. Or he tasked someone else to replace them. He also could've just put it there as a trap. Cronos's perspective on Gaia also makes sense. He saw kratos take the titans to the future, and his domain is time. He thinks she died again because he only sees her severed hand that fell into tarturus. Also I just realized that the Titans have the same ability to know the future as the giants in norse. Since Gaia says some shit about waiting for kratos in 2. Which would also imply that she actually didn't die in the titan war. None of the titans even died, they were just imprisoned. Maybe atlas when hades ripped his soul out, but even then, he still exists and is conscious. It's not like when kratos kills a god or titan where there bodies fucking evaporate or you see their lifeless corpses. Athena is having some kind of time warp in the higher plane which is why she says she misses kratos.

correction, kratos became a god after gow 1, lost his godly powers by putting them into the blade and when he died in gow 3 he died as a demigod so in gow 2018 he's not actually a god but a demigod, the reason he killed zeus despite not technically being a god is because he can regain his godly strength when holding the balde of olympus but when he loses it he's mortal that is whay when fighting zeus, he constantly tries to take the blade from kratos' hands

Regarding the Kratos "is a god or not" debacle, we also have to look at it from the perspective of the Olympians. It was stated that in GOW II they never truly accepted him ("But Kratos sat alone on Olympus, shunned by his fellow gods") and even in Ghost of Sparta, where he is THE God of War, the gods never refer to him as such, simply calling him the Ghost of Sparta. Mortals on the other hand, especially in Sparta, respectfully defer to him as "Lord Kratos", the title he actually deserves. And given the reveal that he's actually the son of Zeus, it still makes him qualified to be a god, at least a minor deity since demigods are considered such. In GOW II, other characters refer to him as a fallen god, not mortal. Even in 3, there is a disparity between how the mortals address Kratos and how the Olympians do. It's kinda obvious that calling Kratos a mortal, is their way of refusing to acknowledge him and insulting his strenght and lineage, treating him as beneath them. Also, he did steal the soul of full blooded god in Hades to pass through the Hyperion gate, and considering his power at this point, he's basically surpassed full blooded gods to the point that he's beyond their level and rightfully earned the title of God of War.
