I want to say thank you so much for this video. I am not a plumber. Absolutely the best video on uninstalling a pop-up sink drain. You made it look easy but I could not unscrew and removel the the stem (4 min mark). Mine spins and I can't separate from the flange at the top!
@Housebarons21 күн бұрын
That’s painful for sure. No easy fix- somehow you gotta get one of those not to spin. Maybe have someone else push down on the drain from top - inside the sink. Maybe wear those yellow rubberized gloves (typically used for cleaning with harsh chemicals.) Hopefully the downward pressure and the rubberized gloves both will work to stop it from turning easily. Then from under the sink, try and unscrew the long drain piece ( tail piece ) . Hopefully that will work???? Thx for watching!

Great video! For anyone considering this upgrade, the one he installed in the video is still quite prone to clogs due to the three cross bars inside the drain. The best alternative in my opinion is the type where the plug just threads into the threaded sides of a COMPLETELY OPEN drain (no crossbars!). These still require routine cleaning, but much less

Whats your thoughts on the push button vs pop up drains? I always hated that the levers on mine could never get tight and there was way too much pushing and pulling on the rod to get the drain to plug properly. On the other hand, you might not want to dunk your hand in the water in the sink to push the button if for example you were using it to soak/clean a sponge you were wiping down the toilet or other things that make the water nasty.

I have tightened the piece that holds the bottom rubber gasket in place right to the end of the thread with no more movement, but everything is still loose so I can move the plug side to side and up/down. This means the seal is not tight and water leaks. How do I remedy this?
@Housebarons Жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, Seems like you may need an additional set of spacers under the rubber gasket ( another rubber gasket , o-rings, or a stack of washers ) - something to take up the slack. Not sure if your sink is thinner than most or your drain tube longer to the threads than most, but I’d try something like that approach to help snug up that rubber gasket tight. Hope that helps, Thx for watching!

Hey cake.., 1) double check the direction you are trying to turn it- it is easy to get turned around and are accidentally turning it the wrong way. 2) if it’s metal, you could try Pb-power blaster ( a penetrating solution ) that’s helps free up stuck bolts. An auto store would have as well as big box stores. 3) if it’s plastic, try a plumber wrench / monkey wrench - they make different sizes and they are remarkably strong. Hope that helps. How important is the orientation of the overflow openings? Should they line up with the overflow hole in the sink? Do all overflow drains have two openings in the drain itself? What do you think the problem is if the sink leaks out of drain holes in front or back of sink (underside) when you push the drain in on a full basin of water and it drains out of the holes as well as the drain itself?
@Housebarons9 ай бұрын
Not sure if this will answer your issues but here is where I'd start: - the down tube / drain tube needs to be one that is made for your sink Is it a sink with an overflow ( as opposed to a sink w/o an overflow. )? Those drain tubes are different. The drain tube needs to be seated in "plumbers putty" or silicon ( see the directions ). If those two things are correct, you shouldn't get leaks. Hope that helps.
