I like this design for tub drains where u just push on the stopper with your foot to open and close. The one for the sink I’m not so sure about. After filling the sink and using, you have to stick your hand in the dirty water to open the drain. Probably why they have made the old design all these years. I know from experience that I’ve had the levers on the traditional ones rust out which is a pain. Now when I replace the stopper assembly, I turn the stopper sideways so it isn’t attached to the pull up bar making it easy to remove and clean.(they even give you the option of doing this in the instructions now on new installations)

I applied plumbers putty all around the flange as you show. I'm not getting any water to drip from any of the connections, pan left on the bottom of the vanity is always dry. But, after several weeks of use, I can still feel a trace of moisture around the rubber gasket against the bottom of the sink. Very frustrating, I hate the thought of taking everything apart! Any suggestions?
@elitehandyman9116 ай бұрын
There's a sweet spot of tightness with any drain gasket. Under tightening, it will leak, overtightening, it will leak. I'd suggest tightening just 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn. If it's super tight try loosening 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn.

What do I do if water leaks from the threads under the sink. The nut is very tight and I am afraid to crack the sink. Suggestions???
@elitehandyman911 Жыл бұрын
It's possible you over tightened the nut which deforms the large rubber washer. Try loosening it slowly with water running and see if it helps.
@milesmccoy8846 Жыл бұрын
@@elitehandyman911 That did not alleviate the dripping issue. I took it all apart and added plumbers tape on the threads where the rubber gasket contacts the metal. That fixed the issue. Thanks for the input. I really do appreciate it!
@mcgeorgerl Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you got the issue resolved. I'm finding more and more plumbers are either using plumber's putty or Teflon tape in the area where the conical rubber seal fits on the tube because the rubber won't push into the fine threads well enough to seal unpressurized drain water. I use Teflon tape because I can get about 4 or 5 tight wraps to seal into the threads. They're doing this to prevent call-backs and facing unhappy customers or builders because of the all-too-common water damage to vanities made of MDF or particle board.

Good job on the video. I see two issues with that. One, who would want to stick their hand back into a filled sink with dirty water? Two, a plumber would probably charge $300 or more to do that install. I’m not saying they don’t work hard and deserve to be paid well. I’ve had plumbers do a lot of work in my house. It can be back breaking work. But for an item like that? Definitely not a worthwhile upgrade IMHO.
