Don’t know if anyone here was/is on hidplanet forums anymore. I have been since 2006 and I recently had to replace my Rx330 non afs projectors I had used mini h1 shields to turn into bixenon’s. They were some of my favorite projectors ever. They were as wide or a bit wider than the current mini h1 8.0 and had a much more even distribution of light with no dim spots. The high beam wasn’t especially tall but I’m in a lowered car and don’t need a very tall high beam. So they worked great for me! Anyway for about 8 years I ran 50 watt Hella boosted ballasts on different 5000K/6000K bulbs since it shifted the color temp down running them higher wattage. Later I switched to the 5800K Morimoto XB50 bulbs and they matched my Morimoto 2 stroke 2.0 9006 fog light LED’s very well. Anyway longevity. They managed to last 8 years and some change before the bowls got burnt to the point where I started to notice a dim spot starting to form on the left side of the step, the lower side. So it appears the left side bulb almost isn’t on at times now. So running a combination of aftermarket bulbs with an oem boosted hella ballasts at 50 watts the bowls lasted 8 years. This is not a good indicator though because they have outlasted what I expected for sure. I started driving for Uber about 4 years ago and now drive about 4-6 hours a night 3-5 nights a week. 12x4 = 48 hours a month minimum of night driving. So these bad boys had TONS of hours on them the last four years with tons and tons of restrikes. So the bulbs and ballasts all have been great. I should point out this is the second set of hella ballasts I’ve had in that 8 years.

Does anyone make an upgraded reflector housing? That would be a cheaper fix than a retrofit.

I purchased (but did not yet instal) the nilite mini projectors. They take h1 bulbs. What else do I need to complete the installation? Very limited budget but I’m also very handy. I usually do all my own repairs and upgrades.

So, just FYI, its definitely any altima of that generation, HID or halogen, that the material wears away. High heat and humidity increase the timing that this happens. This is why i very much dislike NAL. All i could do is point it out to design and I heard people got yelled at lol but yeah, anyone who has that lamp needs a retrofit for sure!

Getting one done as a recall right now. After 5 years of denial and a lawsuit, they are finally fixing the problem.

How reliable and long would it last to run Hylux 2a88 ballasts on a set up like this? With OEM D2S bulbs?
@LightwerkzGlobal2 жыл бұрын
These ballasts have been going strong for 4 years and customer asked to reuse them. Osram bulbs you can expect an easy 3-5 years out of them but you’ll want to replace around that time period because they will have dimmed a significant amount. Overall very reliable setup.

@@LightwerkzGlobal Thank you 🙏 I am running a set up similar to that and these Hylux ballasts are brand new (I’ve only put a few hours on them) and they have been fantastic, very OEM like performance. Good to know I don’t really have to worry about it! Saving up for some CBB or CBIs so I can have that LED-like beam!
