It's so nice to be able to see at night again. I live in a very rural are, so I was dependent on High Beams to see at night since there are no street lights of any kind. When cars approach, their lights are usually enough for me to see the the road without too much problem. A couple weeks ago, I was driving in the rain when a car approached. I couldn't see anything and ended up running off the road and picked up a bunch of dirt/needles. I thought I needed to replace the bulbs, but then found your video and it explains everything. Now back to normal except I need to adjust the lights up a little more. Will finish that tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Easily one of THE best part repair I’ve watched over the years. You hit so many details and I really appreciate the “extra” bits of information you added. Where hidden bolts/screws were, what the inside of failed headlight looks like. Thanks for the headlight glamour shots too. That was funny. Lol. Awesome job.

I've been wanting to replace my headlights, entirely, just because with the current lights, any oncoming light source drowns out mine and makes it nearly impossibly to see the lines on the road, let alone anything that might suddenly cross the road. I'm sure some of that is my astigmatism, but most of it will be brighter lights (Other vehicles, even street lights) drowning out my dimmer lights. This video is incredibly informational for anyone wanting to change out their headlamps without having to take it to a shop, and spend a ton of money to have someone else do it.

Thanks!!! Came across your video because the wife was complaining that her 2016 Altima headlights seemed very dim. Thought it was bulbs and was researching how to replace them. Very informative video, from the mechanical side to the lawsuit. We never got any kind of notice in the mail for her car and I am guessing it has the same issue. Again, great job on the video and the information provided!!!

Guy...you know your stuff!!!! Me and my son just followed your video to the letter and no issues. I have never removed and put back together this much of a front end on a car. You covered every detail we needed to complete the job. You just made driving at night safer for my family and cant thank you enough!!!! As far as Nissan they should be ashamed of themselves for not getting every one of their cars into a dealer and fixed at Nissan's expense. When we called Nissan dealership they wanted the car brought in for a diagnostic test of the electric system costing $100s and then they would repair at our expense. They have lost us as customer forever as they have proved they have no regard for customer safety. Cant thank you enough as you saved us a lot of money and I am pretty sure you may have saved a few lives!!! Thanks again and for sure will subscribe.

Dude... FANTASTIC video. I replaced bulbs twice over the years as it began to dim thinking it was the bulbs. Even purchased a lens cleaning kit, but never used it because the lamp itself wasn't that distorted. Now I see why. I had the same issue with my 2012 Nissan Altima Coupe. I ended up purchasing new headlights as you did and retrofitted LED H11 Bulbs. The difference after bulb replacement is night and day. I also heavily recommend going through the trouble of adding fog lights. Fog lights on Altimas create an amazing field of view. Thank you for creating content!

Thanks for this video. I just purchased a 2015 Altima and can verify it's a major problem and until I can get those headlight assemblies replaced, I have to drive with high beams on all the time. At first I replaced the halogens with xenon. Then I bought a polishing kit and polished the outside but neither of these two solutions worked and I noticed a slight bit of oxidation on the inside of the clear housing but didn't think that should be the main cause and only now am looking to replace the entire housing and found your video. As described in this video, the car is extremely dangerous to drive at night until fixed. I'm surprised a recall hasn't been issued for this fix. Two nights ago I hit some object in the road I couldn't see due to poor lighting and burst the passenger side front tire and had that replace with a temporary tire. Luckily(?) I was traveling only 30 mph so although the collision was enough to burst the tire it didn't cause more damage or so I hope at this time. Thank you for the link to the lawsuit, I will study what my options are before doing anything more myself. It looks like after October 2022 (My comment here is Nov 2022) it may be too late (after Sept 2022) to be covered in this lawsuit. Does this mean another class action lawsuit needs to be filed? I wonder why the class action lawsuit terms were so tight, to only cover extending the new warranty an additional 3 years to 2021 and then another year for "out of warranty" replacement? This headlight problem will be a never ending problem for Nissan as no defective headlight assembly should fail within 10 years, maybe even 20 years... I wonder what the industry median lifetime is for this part. Looks like I may contact the attorneys for this lawsuit, get whatever info I can and decide what to do then. Maybe contact Nissan to see if they will volunteer to do an out of warranty repair. IMO this is an extremely dangerous safety issue and should be subject to a recall for replacement. I wonder why the DOT hasn't gotten involved in this issue, maybe the lawsuit itself can provide details on that.

Same thing happened to my Nissan 2013. I contacted the dealership. Past the settlement date. I contacted the settlement website. No use. Let use know if you find anything worth pursuing. When I ask the dealership about a recall, he said, I am directed to send you to the settlement website, which offers nothing. I'm sure there are plenty of Nissan owner's that are just now experiencing the same issue. Mine started about 2 weeks ago, I can barely see at night. I agree with you, it is a major safety issue and should be a recall.

My 2014 Altima had this issue a little over a year ago. I was VERY thankful that Nissan replaced both of my headlight assemblies due to the recall lawsuit. They said it was about a $1500.00 job, and I'm glad I did not have to pay anything for this service. I actually had to wait 3 to 4 months to have it done, because of the tremendous amount of people that were on the list for this service to be done.

Did you pay for the labor upfront at the dealership and then get reimbursed? I received the lawsuit documents in the mail that said the lawsuit will only reimburse the parts and not the labor. I would have to turn in the receipts to the attorney firm for reimbursement. Did you call Nissan directly? I have a 2014 Altima and searching online to buy new headlight kits for both sides. Any suggestions anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. 😊

I had the headlamp assemblies replaced on my 2013 Altima. Initially the new ones were aimed too far downward like in your video, but at least they were bright. I had the aim adjusted at the Nissan dealership (no place else would/could do it and I'm currently unable myself). Now they're aimed properly but BACK TO BEING DIM just as it was with the old factory headlamp assemblies. I'm at my wit's end.

At least in California, there are limitations now on the "bluish" tint, IIRC it's 6000 kelvins where to the eye the light is white and any blue is imperceptible. Higher kelvin numbers would graduate towards purple and are illegal. Lower numbers graduate towards orangish and appearance of natural sunlight.

Although grille replacement is easier for other Altima years, the plastic bumper cover must be loosened up for 2015. Minutes 2 through 6 are an excellent guide. You don't have to remove the bumper cover completely nor disconnect lights. It just has to be loose enough to reach in with a stubby philips head to loosen the screws in the 4 corners of the grille. If the old grille is trash, you can snap off the tabs with your fingers or a pair of pliers. Make sure you reposition any of the clips that come loose when you remove the philips screws in minute 5.

Good video. I was able to get mine replaced by Nissan on my 2015 but it was months waiting for the headlights. I eventually reported Nissan to the BBB and presto, they started responding quicker to my complaints of waiting. Definitely an improvement for night vision. My worry is did they really improve the issue or just give me new headlights to make me go away. I had the same problem with my mother's altima. She complained she couldn't see well and I drove it to see how bad it was and I couldn't see the lights on the road at all. Even on a dark road with no street lights . So I ordered some led bulbs and it appears to be way brighter .

Is this just a Nissan problem in general? I have a 2014 Maxima SV with factory HID lights and the brightness is terrible. I’m actually looking to convert from the original HID to a halogen housing and install LED H11’s instead.

To change the right side lamp on a 2015 Altima turn the wheel all the way to the left and peel the liner back. The is no need to remove bolts just to change the headlights.

It’s crazy that you have to do all that just to change the lights. I remember my old Mazda Miata I think was an 07. You just screw the front off to get to the bulbs. Was very easy to change. My old Honda Civic you had to crank the wheel all the way right or left and go in through the wheel wall. Im having same issue with my Altima now. Too dim headlights and my left one is completely burnt out.

I got my class action brand new crystal clear headlight assemblies installed by the dealer a month ago. KZbin keeps suggesting these videos on my page. Forgive me if I already posted this on this video. But I just want everyone who has an Altima to know that it is true and I got mine and wow! Just like when I got the car brand new! *ALSO* the lawsuit covers you if you already replaced them take your receipt and you will receive reimbursement from Nissan. And also fue those who have sold their vehicle, take your receipt! You too will be reimbursed because you spent the money to replace them. You have to show them your receipt.

Did they do a test on yours? My dealership ran a test and and said I didn't qualify for replacement even though I did what I had to for the class action
@applejack2374
@applejack2374 2 жыл бұрын
@@travelwithgoose that isn't familiar to me. I had not heard of a test. Butin further research, I found out that Nissan is still not admitting to any wrongdoing. The replacements are being done because the judge ordered Nissan to do it, rebellious Nissan didn't issue a recall. I would guess that they are trying to minimize their cost of replacing the headlight assemblies. Try telling them that it is very dangerous to drive your Nissan at night and you have come into some life threatening situations because you couud not see the road ahead of you. Then subtly drop a hint that it would be cheaper to replace your headlights than to face a wrongful death lawsuit from your family if something happened to you as result of the defective dim headlights. That's not legal advice, it's the sort of manipulative drama I would create in a situation like this. It just might work if you make them feel liable. Good luck and I really hope you get them! OK?

Thanks so much for posting your outcome. Just a few questions. What year is your vehicle? Did you buy the vehicle at the same dealership as I know that helps sometimes getting it serviced faster ?. I've been finding that only that the 2013 and 2014 vehicles seem to be prioritized by most of the dealerships in getting serviced first. I love your advice you gave BumpGoose on prodding the dealership to get the vehicle serviced. I agree the better prepared you are when you arrive at the dealership for service goes a long way in getting a more positive outcome.

We replaced with these exact headlights a couple of years ago and are having the same issue again. Wondering now if it's the car itself and not the headlights. We've also had to replace the transmission in this 2013 Altima twice in the last 6 years. The lawsuit actually reimbursed us for the cost of the headlights and it only took a couple of months (just FYI).
