Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZbin!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...

Here in Arizona we called ‘em “hot ball diesels” because the mine blacksmith would get a steel ball from the ball mill drum and get it red hot in his forge. Then he’d grab it with tongs and drop it into the hollow of the engine head and the engineer would start cranking/pulling rope and the engine would fire. Maybe.

Mr. Magnificent, I'm 66 and kind of messed up my knees skiing when I was younger. I've been using Ace knee supports for over 15 years. They're the kind made out of something like diving suit material with a hole in the middle for your knee cap, and held on with velcro. They make it possible to take care of my land and get out hiking. I also found that trekking poles help a lot on steep terrain. Not to take weight off my knees, but to stabilize my balance, especially when going down hill. It takes a lot of sideways stress off my knees, and I can concentrate more on what's around me than where I'm stepping. (Keep looking out for snakes though.) I'm working on trying to get my weight down because it's amazing how much that helps. But my God it's difficult! Kudos for getting out to the far reaches and high places.

@@Adventcha Take care of your wrecked knee; they don't improve with time. Avoid things like jumping off a tractor. I had a friend who worked in a warehouse, who jumped off the fork lift onto concrete floors for over twenty years. He's had both knees replaced, but can barely get around. He gained a bunch of weight, didn't do the required therapy, and got addicted to pain meds. I see knee replacement as a last resort. From what I've read, Somalia was a hell of a place. I hope your knee was the worst damage, because that place could wreck your mind.

What a beautiful mine! Just wondering....due to the sheer size of this mine how many men were working this mine? Where did they eat &sleep? Did they go home at the end of their shift? So many questions....ty guys!

“Gly” Roughly 50 or more during peak operations I’m guessing. They had sleeping quarters in the valley below. There’s a small town nearby but the miners didn’t travel there but maybe once a month.

No, that's too much for Swiss cheese, I'd call it anthill or... pumice. They could work an open pit, not far from it. They've definitely taken out more than left. Hope there's no flood at the bottom, waiting for next part.

Very cool mine. I can’t wait for next week! It didn’t matter if we were camping or mine exploring, our motto was “ you pack it in, you pack it out”! If we were working our claim for a week or two we always policed the area before we pulled out.

Second comment of the day. Watched the video and read the comments. Saw a couple comments about moving the cameras too fast and being jerky. Your panning shots are excellent - as in when turning around the speed is perfect: any slower and folks would start taking naps. The beginning shots/intro are appreciated by most, showing the terrain and the vistas. Any longer might not be a good idea. Keep it up - the number of views keep climbing so you must be doing it right!

“Gly”: Some folks get motion sickness when watching fast paced editing like what I did here in the intro but that number of individuals is low compared to the bigger picture. The important part is how the inside of the mine is filmed so that it feels slow and fluid as if you were there yourself. I wish a select few of other mine explorers would adopt this style and try harder for a smoother production.

Well you asked “What do you think of that?” So I will tell you:) So here are my thoughts 1. That’s a very interesting Mine for sure. 2. I do enjoy your presentation 3. Understanding Mr. M enjoys exploring with you I sometimes think you may be putting him “In harms way” while making your video’s I mean how old is he anyway:) I think I understand your feeling on matters like “Seeing what around the next corner or the next level as I shared those feelings when on one of my Motorcycle adventures but the difference would be I didn’t ask others to do the same. Fortunately he seems to have more common sense than others around him:)

Excellent video and wonderful intro. I want (but who am I to say what I want. lol) you to load up next weeks video now. So enjoyable. You guys are tough and I bet many of us worry about Mr. M tracking all those hills and inclines and so forth. That is a heck of a workout and not easy for us guys 50ish and older (at least for me). My heart is young, but the hills are steep.
