That overtone decrease at 15:19 was insane!! Incredible. Fountain of knowledge.

I think it's definitely true for singing! When my singing sounds worst is when I'm pushing my voice too hard. Whereas it sounds best when allowing proper balance between pushing and relaxing at the right times and in the right places, which ends up allowing true emotion to shine through. I never really thought the same would apply to growls as well but it does make sense. Great video!

Balance is the key to a healthy and sustainable sound. As we said, pushing is the number one cause of injury amongst extreme vocalists, so learning how to achieve power without push is crucial for longevity!

His channel should be growing much more in the future. Just keep up the awesome videos, even if some of it is recapping some topics it never hurts and will only help more people find you and your advice : )

Very informative video. The one bit that helped things click for me was the bit about belting. Usually I find myself pushing a lot for that belting sensation but never thought to compare it to the relaxed feeling when belting a normal singing note. Even with a half-arsed scream or through a relaxed throat singing type sound, applying the same logic purely with intent behind it rather than force gave me a new perspective on things. Awesome

I know this is one of the channel's lesser seen videos, but finding this at a time when I was refining my vocal technique (thanks to EVI's other videos!) was extremely helpful. In conjunction with making sure I wasn't pushing, especially in a live/microphone context, you helped me understand the shifting nature of pressure and when to apply more and less - specifically an adequate amount of power to get the sound and then working with tone from there on my lows. All really, really helpful stuff. Thank you for your visualisation, I'll likely be taking one-on-ones with you next year. Thanks.

Thank you soooo much for all your invaluable lessons! I often found myself worried about trying to be louder, when I sounded better at my current power, assisted with a mic

While I definitely agree someone shouldn't strain or be extremely tense while screaming, I have to say volume and a certain amount of pressure helps my tone A LOT. If I scream without a certain level of pressure and volume, (especially my mids/lows) it sounds hollow and croaky or even weak.
@ExtremeVocalInstitute

Pressure ≠ push. Lows, especially more open ones, will require more pressure to sustain the sound than a high scream but you still don’t want to overdo it with the air or rely on force for your tone Here’s a video that explains more about air pressure: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZuQmKR_hd6SapY

My first big breakthrough watching your videos was realizing I was doing my fry scream way too intense. I loosened and lightened it up and no more being out of breath, no more headaches, and it sounds better! Win/win! Sadly I think I damaged my voice because my fry doesn't sound as good as it once did

The headaches have been getting me bad, and now my higher range feels impossible to hit cleanly since practicing yesterday, so I DEFINITELY need to pull back on the pressure!

Heres something: if you creating this sound with your diaphragm...and trying to do behemoth style vocals... then yea this isnt possible. You have to use your abdominal muscles. The way i do it is control. Absolute control

Also, keep in mind that Nergal said in an interview that he's not capable of doing this kind of scream anymore. Or at least, he doesn't want to because it damaged his voice in the past. So yeah, possible, but with care and control.
