I just built an extus myself, but I exclusively play awaken the blood avatar. It’s so fun, waking the blood avatar over and over again, and if you get it going early enough it can make it really tough for your opponents to catch up. It’s neat the way these double sided commanders can open up so many options within the same commander.

Since the avatar token is not a legendary creature, you could also populate the token through white cards like song of the worldsoul, wake the reflections etc for example. Create multiple avatars that have haste, swing, and deal lots of damage to everyone at the same time

Living Lightning is like a red archeomancer but on death and lets you create loops to replay any instant/sorcery in your graveyard, you should consider it, especially with in conjunction with dualcaster mage! Dire Fleet Daredevil and a sac outlet lets you steal instant and sorcery from an opponent's graveyard, sac the daredevil with his trigger on the stack, and put him back into your hand with magecraft

I can’t wait to but Extus. Blood for the blood god (I know it’s called awaken the blood avatar but I hen else can you appropriately say BLOOD FIR THE BLOOD GOD!!! in a game) is REALLY good and the Extus front side alone is pretty great too. Thank you Seth for blessing us with this video

I think Extus is one of the best Mardu Commanders we've seen in a while. I love the strategies Mardu has access to and Extus was born to do Aristocrats (and cycle) so thanks for another great video!

Animate dead + worldgorger dragon combo works wonderfully with Extus because you have something to spend that infinite mana on.

a couple alternatives for this deck are double vision, and song of the worldsoul. The blood avatar is not legendary so you can have multiple running around.

Maybe throw in a Vampiric Rites enchantment? It's cheap and allows you to sac your tokens for card draw and health.

neat aristocrat package. although I'm more interested in the other half of the commander. once you've cast him enough times. you can really take advantage of cards like skull storm.

@@TroostDesigned true but if you are using things like ashnods alter or cost reducers it's not so bad. Plus it can be a game ender and in commander who's not dropping large amounts of mana into spells.

This deck looks fun, but seems a little typical. Zulaport cutthroat, viscera seer... you could make these with any other creature that cares about sacrificing. I made my deck all about casting the Blood Avatar as many times as possible. There have been games I've been able to cast it 4 consecutive turns in a row!

I'm a little disappointed that Teysa Karlov, Open The Graves, and Desecrated Tomb didn't make the list as they would have been outstanding value pieces, but hey, this is probably the only way to really get value out of Extus.

For my build I leaned extra hard into the blood avatar side, instead of extus or a mix of either. Still great cards I hadn't thought about, so thank you!! Also am I the only one that thought they could've shortened Plumb the Forgotten to "Multikicker sacrifice a creature: copy this spell for each time it was kicked" or is it just me? Not that they needed the space, but they have the keywords already to make it shorter.

It's an 11 dollar card, but if you want something really spicy and want something that destroy combo decks you rally should include Bitter Ordeal!

Having been on the receiving end of Extus, my thoughts are that this card is a little too pushed, and is in the same category as Tergrid, Chulane, Korvold, Urza, etc. With Awaken the Blood Avatar (a sorcery) in the command zone, it is near impossible to counter or interact with. Combine it with cards that force everyone at the table to sacrifice, and what you have is a situation that pits the entire table against that player. I'm not going to tell everyone how to have fun in their meta, but my own thoughts are...well, I wish Wizards had never printed this card, frankly.
