Because you fear the idea of death, the lack of life, the limited time etc. Keep toying with words, it does nothing to change the reality. It's the same shit as "everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok it's not the end" even though sources are definitely different lmao. Fear of death (no not the dangers, the end destination) is not functional to our ANIMAL existence, but once you say that there is literally nothing you can say next, here's a Wittgenstein for you. There is no "how to human", the only logical move is to create a better enviroment for ourselves, but we chose supremacy as a life goal. And that's because death is functional to our HUMAN existence, since you can ride the dread and push yourself further. That's why the world is shit. Would it be better if we lived as happy hippies? Who knows, we'd have way less progress etc. It's a giant avalanche of non answerable questions and empty talk that does nothing other than free the talkers' minds for a while. If you think you can block the primordial fear through a simple semantic play you're either really naive or desperate.

A taste of my sleep deprived self thinking about black holes: 'Singularity' what is that? I don't know. By that word I am reminded of black holes, it is said that even black holes can't destroy the imprints on matter 'information'. This means that our experiences and epiphanies might never disappear... Completely anyway. This 'information' may survive even when everything in the universe dies, maybe the black holes would carry all matter to a point of 'singularity', a new big bang perhaps. Point is, I might never truly die, and I'm gonna hold on to that.

But that strip of land wouldn't exist without millions of tiny grains of sand. Taking away one grain doesn't make a difference, but take away all of them and there is no longer a beach. What helped me cope with my own mortality was realizing that death is the reason why we value life to begin with. If everything lasts forever, eventually life would be like an endless curse that never ends. I feel like many people don't fully understand how long *forever* actually is. It would eventually drive you crazy. The fact that life is temporary is the reason why we have goals and aspirations, and appreciate the things we have.

Vsauce was science, a dash of humor, with a small bit of philosophy as it applied to the science. Exurb1a is equal parts science, humor, and existential philosophy, which I believe is more appropriate and healthy for our times. Exurb1a is a KZbin channel for an age when by next month, they may have invented a cure for cancer and/or general AI with responsible restraints, or by next month the Novel Coronavirus may have infected us all, dooming at least around 4% of the human population to die of heart and/or lung complications. In all reality, it will probably be somewhere in between. In short Vsauce was a channel for the late 2000's and the 2010's, and Exurb1a is a channel for the 2020's and the uncertain future.

existential crisis are the best things for you to feel relaxed, everyone's trying to find meaning and shit and you can just chill with meaninglessness

This video is both weird and beautiful to me. I've had an overwhelming sense of dread surrounding death ever since I was around 8 years old. At this moment I am 37. I have been very aware that one day I will die. I think about it every single day. Everything I see or experience will link back to it in some way. The only thing that varies is the amount of fear I feel. Sometimes I can function and other times I cannot. I am not religious so I kind of view it as something similar to what it was like before I was born. I just wasn't, whilst there was millions of years of history that was. For the longest time I was terrified that if I spoke to people about this fear of death, it might make them the same way as me, overly aware and somewhat useless. So it has been an incredibly lonely feeling, how do people cope when I cannot? Anyway, here I am, late to the party of 8.8 million views. I doubt people are cowering in their beds and crying after seeing this video (well not all of them at least). It is incredibly well made and puts a lot into perspective. For me it feels like a friend I have had for a long time being introduced to the world. Thank you for your work, I'll be watching more for sure. By the way, I'm an oversharer.
