I don’t have diabetes but I have CRVO and the cause is unknown. I am getting an eye injection next week to reduce the macular edema. This video was very informative. Because this is my second crvo in the same eye they checked my carotid and temporal artery. They did an MRI looking for tumors and nothing was founded. Thank you for posting this. Thank you for posting this video.

As a Type 1 diabetic with 42 years of insulin therapy under my belt, I thought I might pick up an item or two from this video. In fact, I learned A LOT about my diabetic retinopathy from Dr. Schwartz's lecture. I have already been through the laser treatments and occasionally suffer some hemorrhaging into the vitreous, but it usually clears within a couple days. I just learned today that I may be a candidate for the anti-VEGF injections, so may be off to a new adventure at my next visit (every 6 months!) to my retina specialist. Thanks, Doc, for the positive encouragement that I need not go blind. I will do everything I possibly can to preserve my vision!

Great talk, tough to hear some of the great questions. Crucially the glycation (high blood sugar) in haemoglobin starves the blood cells of oxygen carrying capabilites and is most damaging as we know where blood flow is tiny In tiny vessels. Exercise mitigates a little but after 40years as a t1d I'm learning more pieces of this puzzle. Food choices are by far the most crucial to easier control. Fructose is such an enemy. Great video. Keep that hba1c good, reverse early signs.

I didn't watch the video all the way through, so maybe you covered this. i wonder if my unusual diet would help some of people's eye problems. For nine years I've been living about 92% on fluid milk products, cow milk and cow cream. In my case it helps with a difficult eye problem, I think because milk is more gentle, non-clogging and non-irritating to the cells than solid, mixed food. It might help other people with various problems as well. The diet might also help with diabetes, again, because milk is more gentle, non-clogging, and non-irritating.

Two years gone, how are you now? I'm thinking maybe the vitamin A? And for people not allergic to milk, it would be a non-inflammatory food. And then the fat would also help to balance out blood sugar. Just a bunch of guesses though. I am not a doctor. I'm seeing people eating all animal foods and healing a bunch of things. Sugar and processed foods are inflammatory so cutting those out, it stands to reason, would seem to solve quite a few problems.

I am sitting at 245. I am not diabetic but have macular edema due to crvo. Did your diet help your eye health? I would do anything to get my eye health back and of course lose some weight.

Fantastic delivery of recent advances in diagnosis and treatment options for people who have diabetic retinopathy. Very important! You can have 20/20 and be on the verge of complete vision loss without a special retina exam. You need to tell your optothamologist if you have diabetes or metabolic disease "so that they know" to look for retina problems and whether to refer you to a specialist! patients can sandbag themselves by "not complaining" the examiner will not even look for the tell tale signs. The optothamologist will not examine the Whole retina.. they only look at a tiny tiny part of it normally.

It is July 2023...my treatment is bilateral anti vegf injections monthly for the last 3.5 years, going through Eylea, Lucentis, Avastin, Vabysmo, then back to Eylea. I have had steroidal implants 3xs, laser treatments as well. I have finally received good news that the edema is showing signs of diminishing. I have changed my cuisine to plant based foods (vegan and vegetarian meals) and daily exercise. My doctor feels my diet has contributed to the improvement. Hang in there.

If someone is able to reverse their type two diabetes and keep their blood sugar in the normal range for over two years, will diabetic retinopathy still be detectable?
