As a shotgun shooter, Archer darts player and many other aiming sports eye dominance is definitely a thing it’s nothing to do with blocking your vision with your dart hand it’s what eye your brain prefers to take it’s main image from.

Again what you describe is not domination here is the dictionary definition of domination. To have control over a place or person: He refuses to let others speak and dominates every meeting. They work as a group - no one person is allowed to dominate. You can call a plant pot a plain if you like doesn't mean its true.

Possibly the term is flawed! dominance refers to some peoples brains preferring to take more of the visual stimulus from one eye to the other is no different to preferring to use one hand over the other would this make them left or right hand dominant? The problem only affects people with cross dominance left handed right eye preference or right handed left eye preference. As your sight picture even with “correct throwing Technique” is incorrect.

Bobby George? Phil Taylor? Both left eye dominant and right handed. Both there throws accommodated for this. Phil has now had cataracts operations on both eyes. He’s said in a interview he’s had to change his throw as he’s now even eye dominant because of the operation. And just to add to that I have tried your throw watched nearly all your videos, my hand automatically Turns the flight end to my dominant eye. I cannot throw darts the way you do, everybody is different.

Maybe they should have played the dynamite Dave way, then Taylor might have won 20 world titles! Speaking in general there is such a thing as eye dominance but I can see where Dave is coming from here, you are blocking your view of one eye to the dart board, makes sense but as Dave always says, what he says is subjective.

@@wiganer9912 Hi Buddy here's a thought Yep there is in balance in your eyes as people are right/ left footed right/left handed Etc and as you have stated it can effect your throw but why would you let it why blind yourself negatively in a micro level accuracy activity we all live in the past i am trying to better the future for all players i dont know how it is where you are but the pub level play here is way better than ten years ago our team average is in the 50s now when i started with them mid 30s at best.

point at something and then close one eye .... it dosnt matter which eye then try the other one, which eye is actually looking closer to were your finger is pointing.

I’m left eye dominant and throw with my right arm. It was always a thing with me sighting with my left eye. Over a few years of playing it’s no longer a thing with me, I zone in with both eyes and thow it, not even in my thought process anymore. I agree with Dave but it just takes practice and time to iron the thought of it out your head. Keep practicing you’ll get it when it clicks.

Hello Dave I am left eye dominant. I have always had stronger vision in my left eye 20/30 Left eye and 20 50 right eye my whole life. I have done all the eye dominance tests and they have always show left eye dominance. I had cataract surgery in both of my eyes and It made a huge difference in my Vision. I now have 20/15 in my left Eye and 20/20 in my right. But my left eye remains dominant. According to the eye dominance tests. This is probably because my left eye has always been my dominant eye I assume my brain just keep processing my vision with left eye dominance. I am right handed. But I shoot left handed in archery. So I can use my dominant left eye to look through the scope and for sighting my bow. I set up to shoot my dart and in the ready position my dart is just about at the D20 I bend at the waist as you teach. for moving around the board so as to maintain my elbow height, until my dart is just under the T20 or whatever my target is. I draw my dart back to just under my right eye. and still can see the board and most importantly my target throughout my throw I never loose vision of my target. (My friends have noticed when they see me Set and then move my upper body down and over, as I do, that I am about to hit whatever double I am aiming at. Your method of moving around the board video has worked amazingly well for me BTW. and I Highly recommend all of you look up Dave's moving around the board video, and give it a watch and try it because it works.) So with my left eye being my dominant eye pulling back under my right eye is almost the same as pulling back to the side of my face if I was right eye dominant. I have had a couple coaching sessions with you and have watched all of your videos and they make total sense to me, and I follow your methods, Stance Mechanical throw.... except the side of the face pull back. I just can't seem to manage it. I love what you do and appreciate all that you have done to help me in my darts. I am defiantly not a pro and realize that I never will be, but my game has improved a lot with what you have thought me. I am continuing to see improvement the more I play. I love this game of Darts and Love what you have done and are doing to help Us all to play better Darts. THANK YOU DYNAMITE DAVE!!

Hello Dave, I hope that everything gets sorted with your health and you're back to full form soon. I really enjoy your channel, even though I don't use your method I think your videos still have a lot of really useful instruction and advice that I have used in my game. I have a question. What you mention about people not being able to see the board fully when they bring the dart right under their eye, do you think this is the reason that a lot of (right handed) dart players stand to the right on the oche, so that they can see all of the board?

Hi Brian hope your well If you try it you will see even if the dart is brought under the eye as apposed to in front and no matter where you stand on the oche as the arm swings in and out at the top of the swing where the release happens the view of the board from the eye is completely blocked. Further more as the hand is moving its not only blocking the vision but its moving so will be distracting you as you throw.

eye dominance is definitely a thing, I went to an archery day many years back and im right handed but they a do a little test which involves making a triangle in front of your face with your hands and arms length to see which eye you look through and I am left eye dominant . I am only know realising how much it has affected my game, when I alter my aim slightly and force my right eye to focus I throw a helluva lot straighter. I aim down the barrel at my target through my finger and thumb so I do not block what I am aiming at. You may not believe it (eye dominance)and im not having a pop but eye dominance is based in fact. Try it for yourself, stretch your arms out to the floor make a small triangle with your hands and then raise your arms until your hands are eye level, and you can see the bulls eye close one eye then the other which ever eye your looking at the bull with that is your dominant eye.

Can you please point me to the medical research paper that show this many people believe many things but it will be medically provable if its real. feelings are not facts if you can point me to the papers that confirm your claims i will re consider and change my teaching accordingly.

@@DynamiteDaveLlewellyn u don't need a medical paper, there's a simple test u can do to see which eye is dominating ur eyesight. make a circle with ur index finger and thumb. now hold ur arm out and place the bullseye in the middle of that circle. now close ur left eye, if the bullseye is no longer in the center, then u are left eye dominant. it's not that hard to understand ... lol. so let me ask you, if u see the bullseye in the center with both eyes open but don't see it in the center with ur left eye closed, what do u call that? and ur example makes no sense. ur not blocking ur vision with ur dart. if i close my left eye i can still see my dart and the dartboard with my right eye...lol. now if u play with one eye closed all the time then yes, the eye that's still open is by default the dominant eye...lol.

That is your grip and release mate your darts is being spun buy you as your opening your hand usually the thumb rotates the barrel as the wrist flicks forward. video yourself on your phone then slow it down you will see what your doing then. Cheers D Dave...

Eye dominance is a thing, but it has nothing to do with the dd method unless I want to wear an eye patch. Using stereoscopic vision nullifies eye dominance. I have enough to worry about(like my follow through) without trying to arrange things for eye dominance. I would look like a clown

Couldn't agree more buddy its a bit like religion or fairies etc you can believe anything but will it stand up to logic science and deep scrutiny. As far i can fathom Eye dominance is a belief like handedness your body prefers to reach with your right hand but you can if you want to reach with your left. i decided to play golf right handed and learnt twice as fast as a right hander who started with me. I believe its was because i had no pre conceptions of how to swing a club, i think if i did it left handed (my bodies preferred way) My i know best instinct would make me swing the way i thought was best for me not the actual right way. So as with all i teach its subjective its logic and common sense to me but may be a load of old bollocks to some.

Dont you just love the way people get very touchy nowadays if you challenge there beliefs descending into sarcasm next it will be calling names and trying to get me cancelled like that's not been tried before. Just how many new top line players now throw like Justin pipe, jockey Wilson, Alan Evens, Leighton Reece, Hendo, even Chizzy. The future is not the past no matter how much we wish it was. Now Phil was and always will be the best player this planet ever had win wise, However sorry but Beau Greaves would wipe the floor with him now. just look at the number of 9 dart legs now over a year and at one time there would be one or two players capable of hitting them now near enough all of the top 16 players hit multiple 9s in a year. All i ever do is put the common sense point forward " if you block your vision you cant see" if i put a blindfold on you and i put a book in front of you can you read the text on the page? im not saying anything that's not a fact. Our game is becoming like all other sports and games more and more competitive why MONEY that's why does anyone think that Sir sterling moss would be able to keep up with Hamilton and if not why do people think in years to come the pros of today will be nothing more than a fond memory because our game is moving fast not that many years ago Double Double finishes were unheard of but now they feature in most matches and in future it will be most legs, Fact i was teaching this logic over a decade ago and there are videos on this channel from 8+ years ago look at the comments on the second one apparently i was a lunatic for even suggesting it one Ronnie Huybrechts said i can see the logic but it will never catch on because pros use percentages. A couple of days later he wrote again my lad has been trying your finishing and his % hit average has gone up by 23%. So please dont hate me for pointing out trees are made of wood im here to help the ordinary man or woman become players of the future.

@@DynamiteDaveLlewellyn people do have a dominant eye. That's a fact. Nothing to do with Subjective. Phil taylor, Bobby George and others are left eye dominant. Your videos are excellent and you give good advice on most stuff, but to say eye dominance doesn't exist is ridiculous.
