I've been using cheaper products that imitate Hakko for a while but finally bit the bullet and purchased the FX-951. So far, I'm very impressed with how much better both the tips and the unit are. Particularly at handling thermal shock. This video is a very useful overview of the unit and covers all the basics so thanks! It looks like I'll be using Hakko products going forward. Thanks for putting it out there. =)

Good video thanks for sharing. This is my fist proper temp control station. I’m already a fan! Much more complex than my old blue and red Weler’s. Unfortunately this station is not as intuitive. However, after watching this video and setting mine up at the same time. I understand it’s actually a simple process to understand. Also have an appreciation for the better performance, I now know I’ll enjoy! Would also like to add. I’m very much impressed with the FM-2027(hand piece that came with it incase I have the number incorrect). The cable is soft, feels like silicon. The hand is a very nice size for 70W. Something I thought I would hate is the sleeves. I was incorrect!!! They are very nice!!! Love them! Overall very ergonomic and a very nice size. My kit came with 5 tips, can’t wait to buy the other color sleeves. That way at a glance I will know which tip is which. As my eyesight is not as good as it was. Hakko you have a new follower in your cult!!!😂 After a few uses, Everything else feels barbaric. I can see me being a snob already! I can see me saying, oh you don’t have a Hakko?……. How do you solder than?

I just took my 951 out of storage from about a year's hibernation after moving... The sleep function no longer responds. I tried manually jumping the leads on the cable but still no sleep, so I assume the fault is with the 951 and not the switch on the iron holder. I have my sleep timeout set to Zero too. Is there anything else I may be overlooking?

Needs to be an option to reposition the mains switch to elsewhere on the housing. Because of limited bench space, I always attach the holder to the top of the station.

What's going to be the standard size/shape tip for general use? The FX951 on Amazon that comes with one tip uses a D16, but the bundle that comes with 5 tips comes with D08, D12, D24, D32 and D52. I believe I read that the FX888D uses a D16 by default. I think my work used a D24 for soldering 22AWG stranded wire together but I can't really remember if it was that big, or if it just looked that big while tinned. Which two or three chisel tips would you recommend? I was thinking the D12, D16, and D24. I'll probably only play around with computer keyboard PCBs, RC cars, and electric guitar wiring. Do you think a D08 is too small? Thanks!

Great Question! And thank you for asking it, when it comes to the shape or type of tip it really depends on what you're working on or trying to do. What is the temperature of the tip when in sleep mode? Is there a way to change that? I have it setup that when I place my iron on the stand it goes to sleep. When I pick up the iron it goes to full temperature.

Hello, I bought an FX-951 but I don't see that I can store different temperatures in memory and switch between them quickly like I did with my old FX-888D. Is this possible on FX-951?

I just bought the Hakko FX-951 and watched this video to get the low down on it but I can't get the sleep function to work at all (setting 2 is at 0 atm). I checked the continuity of the bas switch to see that it was working and it is working fine but still the sleep function doesn't work. is this something I can fix from home or do I need to return it?

Looks like a very good station. Two things that are stopping me from buying it: 1. Parameter 0, Parameter 1.... Come on. This is so 80s ! Almost any other competitor has a much friendlier menu. 2. That key might be good for industrial use but makes no sense for a hobbyist. It cannot be disabled and is just in the way.

Once your Hakko is out of warranty and it shits itself forget about getting a circuit diagram for it... Hakko will NOT supply it because its confidential.... Lol really Hakko, its a frigging soldering iron and not a rocket you muppets. People don't waste your money on this overpriced junk. Hakko was great in the 90's but got money hungry
