Coming from the FX-888D, the single most thing I like about my FX-971 is the T39-B02 tip. It's suitable for SMD and a lot of general purpose soldering. An equivalent T18 tip would make the FX-888 series more useful. The closest is the T18-S4 but too pointy. I have no mental issue with conical tips.

A worthy successor to the excellent 951. I can’t justify upgrading because my 951 does everything I need so well.

The added features are even better after a second watch. How many pins is that new handle using? Integrated sleep timer is awesome. The software looks capable, this demo also makes me want one of those 'send it' tip thermometers.

While not a tweezer user, it would be nice to see Hakko support a set of tweezers on the FX-971. It could be really simple... just allow the micro-tweezers to run at a bit below their max capability. Along these lines, what happens if I were to plug in a set... are they simply not recognized?
@HakkoUSA Жыл бұрын
You can use (2) different pairs of tweezers on our FX-972 dual-port soldering station. A pair of regular tweezers (FX-9705) and micro tweezers (FX-9706). The FX-972 is our FX-971 dual port station. The tweezers are not compatible with the FX-971, plugging one into the station will result in a "C-E" error, which is a connector error as the station will not recognize the handpiece.
@gurukantor Жыл бұрын
@@HakkoUSA I appreciate the response and am aware of the FX-972. It would still be nice to see a tweezer for the FX-971 running at 100W (50W per side). This would be a very capable handpiece. Here are a few additional thoughts: 1) The added cost of the FX-972 is an additional barrier to entry if a user is looking for tweezers. What happens if two users try to use this unit concurrently... one or both with tweezers. Based on the specs I would guess either two T39 and/or T52 handpieces can be used concurrently, or a single tweezer of either model can be used. The FX-972 is a single user station . 2) In my almost 35 years of soldering experience there are very few instances where a 15W direct plug-in soldering iron couldn't do the job. Generally 25W is enough to do most day-to-day work on SMT PCBs. Granted, 100W is extremely nice and solves some of the response time issues , but it's not needed in a lot of circumstances. As a said, I'm not a tweezer user. I find them clunky, not worth the hassle, and with the right tips the work can be done without them . I do know people who love them, though, and I think it would be a good handpiece for the FX-971. Cheers! Brad

Always wanted a Hakko but the price point was always a stopping point. I've bought maybe 15 soldering guns in the past 40 years, I got to tell you those cheap Chinese T12 soldering guns are really good, we are talking $40US for everything, including a tip. They've done test along sides of Hakko and well it was pretty even. What I think Hakko needs to do is come up with a entry level T-12 L.E.D display soldering gun with wake/sleep function in the handle like the Chinese T-12 do. The reason for L.E.D and not LCD, well most people want a single dial for the temp, not click this, pull that, click this, set the date and time, play video games, For gods sake its a soldering gun, keep you eye on the ball, It has 1 function, to heat up a tip at a specified desired point. All these new functions and go out the door. The sleep feature makes sense, having it built into the handle makes sense. One dial and no buttons other than a power switch on the front, not on the back, nobody wants it on the back, that just Hakko trying to make things look tidy and neat and the loss of functionality. Just one dial, turn left the temp goes down by 5C, turn it right and it goes up by 5C. Nothing more. It should have memory to it can start off at the last set temp. Probably some So of txt file to written and stored with 3 numeric numbers. That way you could get rid of the battery. If you don't need one get rid of it, us a eprom. Price point should be in competition with China, Yes Things are better quality made in japan and higher wages, so a $75 price point retail VS $40 Chinese T12 would be about right. Just saying you now have massive competition at a fraction of the cost, either build something for the current market, or sit back and watch it take over. What you are releasing above with the new features are features that have been on the Chinese market for a few years now, You aren't innovating anymore, you following what the Chinese market of clones are bringing to the table. If you continue to ignore the current market very possibly Hakko will be for the industrial market only, I can see it on KZbin, everyone is buying some sort of T-12 clones due to the price point , The ease of use, etc.

The hobby segment which is buying the Chinese stuff is small compared to gov/corporate accounts which is what Hakko, Metcal, JBC, etc. target (as gov/corp will never buy no-brand stuff for a huge variety of reasons). They don't have knobs because they don't want the operator messing with the temp, everything is preset and calibrated for the specific product being worked on. Even in service centers, you're more likely to have a few presets rather than needing to dial in a bunch of different temps (honestly, I rarely need to change from my presets of 355,375,400,430 even at home, and it's far easier to tap a button to change these than dial them in).

If I were trying to reflow something, I'd introduce a bit of new solder with a rosin core to melt everything a whole lot faster. Just saying the time test between models isn't that important if they're both set to the same temp, the 951 is still a solid soldering iron.

I just ordered the FX600. I had been buying the cheapies from malwart and harbor freight. The tips on these cheap ones get dirty and crusty very fast. I hope this one is better and... what brand of tips do you recommend for this iron? I am building my first drone... thanks for the video.
@gurukantor Жыл бұрын
From years of experience I don't recall any case where I came out ahead by using 3rd party tips. Trying to save money on tips only leads to frustration, and the Hakko tips aren't very expensive. I would order what you want from Hakko directly and move on. Even people who buy knock-off base units tend to buy name brand tips.
@HakkoUSA Жыл бұрын
@@gurukantor is correct, we recommend you buy direct as to not get scammed by knockoffs or counterfeits. @galimirnund6543 The FX-600 uses T18 tips and we have quite a large variety so whatever type of tip you need you can probably find. The FX-600 can also use the larger T19 tips but you'll have to buy the larger enclosure pipe for it otherwise the T19 tips won't fit.

How about a temperature knob!!! Seems the newer the Hakko, the more pain in the butt it is to change the temp. Hold this button, hit this button to change, hold this, push that. 100% bullcrap is what it is. Last time I tried to change the temp on my Hakko I was in the calibration menu, oops. Yeah, gotta get out my instruction sheet just to see how to change the temp, that should not be. Should be as simple as turning a knob. I love the performance from my Hakko products but let's try to keep the simple things SIMPLE!

I find my new FX-971 much easier to drive than the FX-888D which Hakko has now given a knob, the FX-888DX. If the FX-971 is ever given a knob, I'd like it to be a low profile design.
