Tiny additional detail: when villagers try to breed and can't, they still consume the food. Also, if you put a ladder or vines on the side of your villager storage column they won't suffocate from cramming. As a bonus, it reduces lag, because it alters how entity collisions are calculated.

Anyone trying today (for bedrock at least, idk about Java) You might need to place a slab on top of their heads to keep them from jumping out as at least on bedrock, they seem to just jump from nothing inside the fence post and then onto their enclosure. They can still sleep from there, and you can try again with a slab on top if you need.

thank you for being the only person i’ve seen mention that each villager needs a bed each (and you need to spares to make them breed) it’s an important detail that no one else mentions. i created a different design for breeding and it worked great at first until they stopped and it was most because my village didn’t have enough spare beds! all my others died so i only had two left until breeding so there was a lot of spare beds. The issue has been fixed by just placing down a lot of beds!! this is probably the reason so many people have trouble breeding them!

If you have trouble moving your villagers into the beds, just because they simply reject it, here's a solution: Get a bell. *Ring it.* They will pathfind to the nearest bed, and stand on it. They will potentially fall in the hole. Best doing this close to nighttime, as they will then sleep and then they're forever trapped.

The Sun sets and Nights arrives. i stay up to protect the village and to get the items ( bone, spider eye, etc ). as i was killing the monsters ( spider, skeletons, zombies, creepers ) My village got raid with MONSTERS ( not just a few ) Villagers became Zombies....... houses and floor were blown up by creepers Skeletons kill villagers. The iron Golem who was there with me got shot by arrows ( skeletons ) and blown up by 2 creepers. i ran to a house and stay there. there was no bed and i was getting attack by 3 zombies 2 skeletons, and 2 creepers at the same time. ( knocking on the door ). few minutes later i see the sun rise....... all villagers dead, converted into zombies, the crops ( food ) were half destroyed, Houses on fire half or fully destroyed, The animals escaped ( pigs, chicken, cows, and horses ). It was a Battlefield and i was standing in the middle of it. Days go by............... The entire village was abandoned, desserted, destroyed, it was sad.....
