Thank you ,Henning, for reviewing these line array systems.I've been curious for many years about these and it's good to hear a thorough and detailed explanation. The main reason I watch your videos is that you give a clear, no bullshit account of items you review- which is what we actually want to hear.. not some crafted infomercial we have to decipher by making adjustments in our perceptions just to read a clear result.You seem to provide the info we need and nothing more or less-styling your posts in such a way that we can get a realistic idea and a clear picture-just what the customer wanted( not as the marketing department envisaged it!) Keep it up!(as the actress said to the bishop!)

"A system like this will get into the hands of someone who don't know shit". Exactly! Thank you for emphasizing the fact the adjustments are not for level but for present. Even if I learned nothing else, that piece was worth watching the entire video. And your turnkey suggestions are great ideas. I hope Bose listens to you. Many "new musicians" have come out of the covid lockdowns and they need all the help they can get.

Fantastic, useful information! I'm an acoustic vocalist/guitarist working in a combo with a acoustic/electric bass player and cajon beat box drummer. I have owned the Pro 8 for nearly a year now and have been happy with it overall for small venue performances. However, we do some gigs that require a bit more sound reinforcement, and have run into a few problems. The thing that gave me the most difficulty was pairing it with other components (Bose and other PA brands) using the output and Tonematch connections. I also use the Bluetooth feature for two different personal devices, and that took a little time to get right. There are definitely some tricks I had to learn through trial and error, and you are 100% that the layman who purchases this is going to need better instructions. You might consider another demo video of how to hook up and dial in additional PA components and Bluetooth. Big thanks for this video.

Just bought it! Loving it! I have been using the L1 compacts for years but it was just nice to have something similar with a slightly larger bass cabinet for when you're playing acoustic guitar and then switching to DJ later. The same portability and ease-of-use with just a little more thump and power.

I loved the video, you are very funny. I was a little surprised though at your misunderstanding of the Tome-match preset vs level. I can only assume it is maybe because your level of understanding of more complex studio systems is greater than most and you are looking at it wrong or differently than us normal humans. lol . Overthinking it maybe. I am literally a dummy when it comes to connecting audio equipment, but I found this really quite easy and simple to connect and understand. It made sense. I do really like the QR code on the back idea though, if Bose don’t do that, I’ll be disappointed.

This should have at least 4 mic/line inputs like competing systems such as EV Evolve 30M and 50M, RCF Jmix8 and Yamaha Stagepass 1K has 3 mic/line inputs. The LD Systems Maui 5 GO has the advantage of battery power but couldn't compare with the likes of the Pro8 or Evolve 30M in terms of raw power and sound quality. The LD Systems Maui 5 /11/28G2 do require an external mixer but then again, that's not a big deal. Something like a Bose T4S would add a lot to the Pro8 but the price would then go up considerably!

At 15:53 a message is shown saying that XLR will always go through the Mic Preamp. Later (and also on the Bose site) you say to output the mixer with XLR. I'm confused. If I connect the mixer via XLR to the Bose it will alway go through the Mic Preamp? Or will it not do that if I set the 'Tone match' to 'Off'?

Very good info. I own a Pro8 after using a Bose L1 Compact for years. The Pro8 is definitely an upgrade. Its not perfect but for my solo/Duo and Wedding band-is needs, it is ideal, musical, easy to carry, reasonably priced, and has more features than the L1 Compact. Home Run! I need to get a Modeler like a Helix. I did a gig at a Vineyard yesterday. Brought a Fender Deluxe Reverb and another pedal board for Electric. What a Pain in the but. I could have stayed on Acoustic, or if I wanted to play electric, I could use a Helix for those songs when I switch to my Tele instead of Acoustic. *But ...I would have to Re-EQ and know what settings to quickly set for the Helix. Hmmm

11/04/2020 - Greetings: Please allow me to express my thoughts on the Bose L1 Pro8 and why I decided to return it. Background: I am a singer/guitarist playing mostly at wineries. I owned a Bose L1 Model II and loved it. But when the new models starting being advertised I wanted to upgrade. But, as usual with Bose, they were not available yet. In the USA, the units have been slow hitting the market. Bose has a nasty habit of marketing their new products but when a buyer wishes to purchase the unit it is not available and no one is sure when they will be arrive at the store. That is simply not the way I would do things. As a performing musician, and if you as a manufacturer are going to advertise an item, have it ready to purchase the moment you begin your advertising campaign. As it stands, I resent the fact I have wait until God knows when to make the purchase. That said, The Pro 8 finally came to Guitar Center. I drove 100 miles to make the purchase. It is a little small for the venues I've play at but I thought this would be a nice system for some of the smaller locations I would be working at. The box is very strange looking but it works fine, when I opened the box and examined the system it seemed very cheaply made and would be easy to damage if I would not careful. The plastic tower is by far, something one must be very careful handling. The first order of business, the instructions says; before you start using the system, upgrade the firmware. OK not problem but wait the unit requires a USB-C cable which I did not have. Well sir, I had to go out and buy one. Once I got the thing update, I played with the unit and the Tone Match presets which was a bit of a pain, the Blue Tooth was not as reliable as I had hoped and the sound was fair/OK. It was nothing to write home about. I finally decided to use my ToneMatch TS4 which brought the unit up to what I expected. OK, OK the ToneMatch is amazing unit but without it I was not impressed with the Pro8. After about one hour I decided this was not something I wanted to keep. Also, there was not cover for the bass speaker. I would have to purchase one. Really Bose!? plasticclosingeven that unit has me concerned. If you look at the base of the unit it is very small and could, with the towers in place, tip over easily compared to the L1 Model II. But according to Bose, they insist it is not. Well, that is easy to say if you're in studio environment and not subject to people walking up to the stage to talk to you, especially after three or four glasses of wine. Guitar Center as of date of the writing still does not have the Pro32. So, when it does arrive I will give it a try and if I decided my fears are correct, I will repurchase the L1 Model II. Just food for thought.

Are you comparing to the 16 or just the 32? The 32 concerns me that it has the controls on the ground which are not only harder to get to but also more at risk for spills than the location higher on the sub of the 16.

You know too much for this system. The target group understands perfectly fine what Tone Match means (because they fuckin read the manual and adverts) and they only use the preset for the instrument they use (mic/guitar/aux source). Trust me, I am doing sound on the side for smallest kind of venues and gigs and I bought two L1 Compact for our own venue so the typical L1 user feels at home. Singer/songwriter artists almost always have such a thing (ot two) plus the overpriced mixer and they just do what the manual says. You are way too informed and think way too complicated for this kind of system. Bose will learn and not send you any shit anymore :D
@mervolicious4 жыл бұрын
Oh and I gotta add: No, XLR is not the "professional" way to connect something. XLR is just another way to connect a balanced signal. Same thing can be achieved with a balanced 6.5mm TRS plug. Therefore the combo TRS/XLR connectors do work fine with either. What you cannot do is connect a stereo signal to this kind of connectors, although the 6.5mm stereo jack is technically the same but the signal isn't. For that you would have to use the AUX-in stereo mini jack ;)
@Scott__C4 жыл бұрын
@@mervolicious I agree, I've connected line level or mic level with XLR and also with 6.5mm TRS. Also saying it's the professional way but then saying people won't know how to operate it are at odds. I got an L1 about 6 years ago and it wasn't a problem. Other mixers won't have an off setting and they won't say Tone Match above them. People who know nothing about sound are going to have issues no matter what they're presented with.
