What is the tone match feature? The Bose mixer?
@nomo9344 Жыл бұрын
@@randygodwin The tone match control feature is located directly on the control interface, on both the speaker and the mixer app that is accessible on your phone once connected via Bluetooth. It allows you to select the specific guitar on a drop down menu. For instance, if you're using a Martin D28, you would select "Martin D28" on the menu. The Bose system will then project your guitar through the speaker with as close to the same tonal quality as if your guitar were being played uplugged. The same holds true for the vocal microphone. Select "Sure SM58" if that's what you're using, and it will automotically tonally adjust your sound to be as compatable with that microphone as possible. All this is done without having to purchase the actual Bose mixer. So, if it's just you and a guitar, it's a system that works reasonably well. You still have to adjust your bass and treble controls as well. My son has been using this simple system for his acoustic gigs, both indoors and outside, and it holds its own. I hope this explanation helps. Note, I'm sure the overall quality could be enhanced by having the Bose mixer; however, for a straight forward approach, the basic system works just fine.

@7:13 you're wrong. the mic and instrument options here are only the tone match settings. it's not telling the L1 to expect mic or instrument levels. the levels are determined only by the type of cable connection used. TS for instrument, XLR for mic and TRS for line level. It's strange I know, but this is how Bose set it up. It's explained in the manual.
@martintheguitaristАй бұрын
I think it's reasonable. You want to tone match based on the type of signal and not on the level. I assume all instruments going into this PA would be line level after a pre-amp and the mic input would need the preamp which is probably built into the unit next to the XLR connection.

I use 2 of these as a keyboard monitor rig. They sound excellent, for the price. You should be aware of that they were constructed for singer-songwriters with limited knowledge of tech. Plug and play. An experienced engineer really must read the manual thoroughly, otherwise you’ll mess up the connections and settings both. I speak from experience. The 180 spreading is, at least to my ears, frequency dependant, but still much better than “regular” speakers. As for the app. I thought it was to fiddly for me, especially trying to control 2 units in stereo. Besides, I don’t trust Bluetooth enough to use it on a gig. You need an external mixer if you want to run stereo. Either Boses system or, like me, a small Mackie. As for the steaming music from the app: It will only stream to 1 (one) unit at a time, summing it to mono. Maybe it works differently if you buy the Bose mixer. Be careful with the level when you try them out. After my first real listening session I turned on the TV to watch the news (I know, I’m old school) and had to turn it up significantly. I can’t find any specs, but the L1 Pro sound very clean to me. So maybe the lack of distortion fools you into playing louder than usual. To call the bottom part Sub-bass, nah! 3 dB down at 45 Hz doesn’t even cater for the low E of a 4 stringed bass guitar. Let alone an EDM bass drum. Bottom line: So far very happy with the price, the sound and build quality. But a little disappointed that you have to buy the bags for the bass-unit separately.

Is the Bose LR1 system using impulse responses for the "ToneMatch" function?
@bradmerilic68484 жыл бұрын
What do you mean exactly by "impulse response"? You mean will it kill your attack and any nuance you play with, so that it basically sounds exactly the same and stagnant? I never really found that even with the older system, but we certainly aren't all Mike Dawes either.
@cheeckjerokee4 жыл бұрын
@@bradmerilic6848 I think we got off on the wrong foot. I think the ToneMatch dealio sounds great. Definitely don't think it's bad for your tone, which i think is what you thought I meant. An Impulse Response is essentially an EQ curve which approximates the difference between a guitar being recorded with a pickup (or iffy microphone) and a guitar being recorded in a well treated room w/ nice mics. Calling an IR an EQ curve is... not exactly ideal, but that's sorta how they work. I've started using acoustic IRs for my own guitar tone and I love them. I am a huge fan of IRs for acoustic guitars, I think they are very much so the future of live acoustic tone.

With the panoramic dispersion, how well does it do with stereo delays and reverbs? Can it truly create the ping pong effect to such a degree that you would swear there are speakers on both sides of the room?
@mikedawesofficial4 жыл бұрын
Not by itself but what I tried was plugging my mixer into it and just using a second speaker. Then as long as the delays are panned in/from your rig it works. Think of the dispersion as sending a mono channel out into the room at 180 degrees

They've been making those stick systems where each person gets their own stick/small sub for a long time, and I've always been a big big fan. Plus with them also acting as your own monitor, and man do they sound SO MUCH BETTER than anything that size has any business sounding. They're loaded with a bunch of what? 4"? 5" speakers? I can't remember. Hell, as long as you didn't have some mongoloid neanderthal beating the shit out of their drums, you could even run their mic setup through a small board into it with an extra sub. Super super cool little system. They were perfect for weddings, etc. They were costly back then though. I THINK it was around 2k per stick without a sub??? 🤔 I could be WAYYYY off. This was a long time ago, but man, outfitting even a small wedding band was pretty astronomical. I find it so interesting though that the epitome back in the day was to have as big and as loud as humanly possible! Now, if we can somehow run everything through the FOH and a good set of in ears, we are pretty much going to NOTHING on stage. It's glorious teardown. 😍 I guess it's the same reason we are all getting into Fractals and Helix systems. We just get tired of lugging all that shit around.
