totally agree. sometimes they also need "guidance" since usually guitar with floyd tend to has overly high nut, so need to lower the nut a bit. but it just helps doing bending with wide vibrato during the peak of the bend. :) great for legato fluidness too :) and yeah, floyd rose + sustainer pickup = whole body long orgasm

by the way gigbags: you get almost free advertising with a gigbag. just print your company on it (like ibanez and PRS are doing it) and if the gigbag isn't totally crap people will use it and carry your name around

That's the only gripe I have with Schecter. They really need to include a nice hard case when u purchase the higher end models. Especially the models over $1200 soft cases for 900-1200

You are completely correct on the unboxing experience Henning, it is paramount, and has a massive effect on reinforcing the purchase decision, that and the fact that with a 1300€ Korean guitar you'd expect AT LEAST a gigbag, even cheaper US Gibson come in hard cases, and the Gibson unboxing experience is great.

Excellent video. I really like Schecter and plan to purchase another one soon. These types videos are so helpful, as no one in my area carries the models I'm interested in, so this is the next best thing!!! You really can't tell by website pictures, so a see nice quality video and hearing the guitar is a tremendous asset! Hope you review some of their "Custom" production series (C1, S-II, Solo II). Also, I really like the Apocalypse but dislike how they labelled it as "metal". I immediately passed over it, but now rethinking as it actually sounds great! Thanks!!!!

I think lots of people actually prefer push-pull pots because of the immediate indication you get. Recently you bitched about some pedal where you couldn't see if the boost was engaged when it's bypassed, with a push-push it's the absolute same issue. It's cooler somehow and maybe has more of a 'high-grade' appearance but you always have to remember where you're at.

I don't know why everybody is saying that... you are not the only one... a push push comes up just like a push pull... SAME THING.... the pot is up and you can see what's going on.

The quality issue is the real deal. Build in something that breaks more often than the competition and you get a bad reputation as a brand. Terrible decision. For one guitar freak who knows how to replace things and is willing to do it, there will be 99 annoyed customers going away with a bad taste.

These look great and sound awesome. I own 2 Schecter guitars, a KM-7 (Keith Merrow) 7-string and a Banshee 6 Passive. Both have fixed bridges and SD Nazgul and Sentient pickups. They've been problem free, play great and the necks and tuning are very stable. The gig-bag is a non-issue for me; I have plenty of gig-bags and hard cases already.

Hey Henning. Been watching your channel for a while now. I enjoy your content. I own 3 Schecter guitars with Floyd Rose Trems and its easy to tune them. Of course, when the strings are new, as was the case in your video, they can take a while to settle in and stay in tune. So... What I do, and I also use a polytune clip or the polytune pedal sometimes, is tune the low E then the high E then the A the B the D and lastly the G and repeat that process until it's close enough. Then, tighten the locking nut and retune with the fine tuners using the same process. Then, always tune that way whenever needed but, I find mine stays in tune very well after the strings have stretched enough. I'm sure there are other methods out there like starting with the inside strings and working your way out to the low E and high E but, basically you have to keep the tension on the bridge even as you tune and cannot tune a Floyd Rose like a fixed bridge. I hope this helps! 😊

when I change the strings on my floyd, I take the time to also work the fretboard (you know, lemon oil and a cloth...), and my trick is remove one old string, loosen the 2 old strings next to it (going from high to low e) to create room to work with the lemon oil, and then overtighten the low E and A to compensate(Or maybe only the D -that's what she said- when i only got the higher strings loosened) this keeps the bridge "flat" during the process. Sure, it takes a bit of extra time but well worth it because a. you got new strings B you got a clean fretboard.

OK I bought this a few months ago, the one with the Floyd Rose 1500 and Sustainiac. This is my fist Floyd Rose that stays in tune! Sustaniac is super fun, everyone should try them! I love this guitar! In person it's more green then gray, but it's gorgeous none the less. Glow in the dark Side dot's are awesome, and I found out that I don't need inlays, the Side dot's are enough. Why a three way blade? Because when you play live, and you play a humbucker guitar, which you have purchased for the humbuckers, not for its pseudo single coils sound. (If you want single coil sounds, buy a guitar with single coils - jack of all trades; master of non). Also finding that fourth position comming from the first while playing at 200 bpm and be tight and on the beat, is somewhat not happening. Also the blade, to me, is more sturdy. Five ways and many options are fine at home and in a studio, but on the stage, I would diffinately go for a less is more. Less to break, less to go wrong more time to rock and metal out. Just one volume pot, Henning, less options :) This is just my opinon.
@RJW14
@RJW14 7 жыл бұрын
This and I find a blade on S-type guitars to feel more natural due to it's position. If it would be on the upper horn I'd agree and say a more LP type switch is better but I feel no qualms whatsoever with my 3 way blade switch when swapping pickups every other lick. Or several times per lick. It's just easy to reach and the motion of moving it is natural when you're playing. (To me at least)
@Cooker98
@Cooker98 7 жыл бұрын
3 way blades last much longer for the price compared to toggle. Advantage to 5 is when making quick/harsh PU position changes it won't stop in-between for example the 3 and 5 when you need 5...
@bavarianmonkey8326
@bavarianmonkey8326 7 жыл бұрын
Blades are self cleaning, normal toggles are not so you avoid all the "my switch does not work" problems you get with those. Plus, you can do split sounds in the center position whereas the normal toggle does only offer one switching contact so you cannot do that...

sir, for intonation, string change n tuning change. u should 1st, block the floyd @ parallel position to the body. make sure it didnt move during the setup. 1. loosen the springs till the bridge tilt forward, 2) block the trem with name cards(stack em together) in the spring cavity, make sure it parallel to the body. 3) tune, intonate , change strings etc, after the changes done, unblock the floyd by removing the deck of cards, tighten the springs till it goes back into again. tada! easy :) hope u will find this useful sir.

hey, have a suggestion for tuning floyds...get a deck of playing cards and put it under the back of the trem,...remove strings, replace...then over tighten/tune the low strings ..maybe a pitch (E to F)and tune g,b,and e to pitch til the pitches even out,.....if u get lift on the trem tighten the springs! /,,/

And for tuning, go G, D, B, A, e, E bruh, not 6 to 1 or 1 to 6 because you gotta compensate for the tensions. Yeah, I called you bruh cause interwebs. :) And for Drop D Eddie van Halen invented the D-Tuna ;) whaha. Not that I'd want one because the one thing I picked up from Dimebag is playing with the harmonics and the floyd.

RJW14 With a polytune once you're near pitch just polytune the guitar and then fine tune in strobe mode. Also he touched on it but the string retainer on that guitar isn't setup correctly since it went so sharp when he locked down.

Setting up a floyd rose for another string size/tuning: 1. put a wedge under the floyd so it is perfectly horizontal 2. pull the springs tight so the wedge is wedged in there TIGHT and stays like that no matter what you do 3. tune the guitar up 4. if wedge falls out, tighten the springs and go back to 1 5. tune until tuning is correct 6. loosen springs, wiggle wedge carefully 7. once wedge is loose, remove 8. check tuning (CHECK, DO NOT MOVE TUNING PEGS!) 9. using the SPRING SCREWS, set to correct tuning The next time you tune the guitar, you only need to tune it normally and the floyd will stay horizontal. Time required: under five minutes.

Complete disagreement on the expensive guitar coming with a case or gigbag. When I spend serious money on something, I want as much of it as possible to be spent on the thing I chose, not on some accessory someone else chose to add to it without asking me. I would want to choose the case or the gigbag I need, or nothing at all if the guitar is just going to hang on the wall and be transported in one of the few cases I actually need and use interchangeably. A nice case coming with a guitar, like a luxury box around a Rolex, is what you get when that money doesn't matter, when you have enough of it not to see it as "serious money". This is what you want when you have money to throw away, not when you scrap it from all sides. A shabby gigbag is just wasted stuff which actually diminishes the image of the product I bought, so that's not a solution either. Give me the cardboard box, make it even a little tougher so I can ship it again if I want to re-sell the product. That's added value.

I remember Schecter selling good quality guitar parts and kits back in the 1970's. If you were a DIY kind of person handy with tools and some woodworking experience... you could get a beautiful strat or tele style guitar for a fraction of the price of a "real" one. Schecter was higher quality imho, as well as totally customizable being able to mix and match parts. Ahhh... good memories! ;-)

The switch is only 5 dollar to the 1400, you say. However, that's from the custumer's viewpoint. You should, I think, relate it to the margin. When the costs of the wood, the parts and the making of the guitar are, say, 800 dollars, storage, shipping and advertising are 100, then the margin is 500 dollars (I have no idea what the real values are), then you have to relate the 5 extra dollars for the switch (and the ten dollars for the gigbag) to the margin, so that's 5/500 instead of 5/1400 (or with gigbag 15/500, instead of 15/1400). Adding these 5 or 15 dollars to the price would be silly, for 1404 or 1414 won't do. So to the manufacturer the 5 dollar extra is more than for the customer. In my example three times more.
@fritsvanzanten3573
@fritsvanzanten3573 7 жыл бұрын
OK, I did a little research on the web about the figures. For a brand like Schechter it looks like they make 170 dollars on their 1400 dollar guitar; about 850 to manifacture the guitar, they sell it with 20% margin/profit to the dealer, who sell it with 20% margin/profit to the shop that sell it with 14% (big brands do more) margin/profit to the customer. That means that the gigbag and the switch have to be related to the 170 dolllars, which makes it almost 9% loss on their revenues. Adding the cost to the price of the guitar would make the guitar 24 dollars more expensive in the shop. Of course the shops would lower the price to a psychological much lower pricepoint (1419 -> 1399), so somewhere someone loses 20 bucks. Don't forget that dealers and shops have to pay their rent, cars and staff out of these margins. I can't claim these figures are correct or complete, it's just to draw the picture.

My largest problem with ANYONE shipping guitars is that the knuckledraggers who handle the shipping, i.e. UPS, USPS, DHL, FedEx, et al, are all dicks, and if they see a guitar shipping box, they're most likely going to intentionally damage it in some way. I had to have a B.C. Rich case replaced 3 times, because it was intentionally trashed (corners were bashed in). How do I know it was intentional? The location that it comes from is only 5 hours away from my house, so it wasn't air-freighted or had to travel a long distance or pass through a number of hands. I do everything that I can not to order guitars/amps, but as I'm a lefty, I almost always have to rely on a catalog/online order and wait in fear for it to be shipped. No excuse.

how to tune a double locking trem with ease:1.put the strings on so they can put some pressure on the trem springs 2.hold the trem in the perfect position using the trem arm and that little bit of string tension(remember the guitar is NOT in tune yet) 3.pick a small block of wood and while the bridge is in perfect hight and level,put the wooden block behind the bridge,effectively locking it from going upwards so none of your strings will go flat 4.tune the strings to tension 5.let the guitar sit WITH THE WOODEN BLOCK just for the strings to stretch 6.do the final step of fine tuning after the strings are stretched enough 7.remove the wood block NEVER EVER use the screws to lower the bridge IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED THE STRING GAUGE ffs done...enjoy the guitar?!

the reason the tuning goes up when you tighten the nut, is because it is squeezing the string at the nut. it has nothing to do with the string guide. there's no way to get around it. even the most expensive guitar with a locking nut will do that.

I'm glad I don't have a floyd rose trem system. LOL I am a rhythm/riff player & couldn't play a decent lead if my life depended on it, so I won't be getting one! hahahaha

times like these i wonder why people opt for a floyd. even my cheap low-end fake strat guitar stays in tune with bar usage

You can't bend sharp with a fake strat, not at the bridge anyway.

Because you can do so many more things with a Floyd than a traditional trem system

I think you were being a bit harsh on the cardboard box part. Maybe you have higher standards because you unbox so many instruments lol.

Seriously!? Bitching about things he shouldn't - like how hard is to change strings with locking nut. Really?! Takes 10 seconds longer. I would gladly take that over the the Floyd tune instability. Push-Push vs Push-Pull? Who cares... I am surprised you didn't complain about the color of the strings - that bright white is hard on eyes you know... :) Don't trust a guitar reviewer who can't tune a Floyd.... :) Jokes a side, it is a beautiful guitar - thanks for the video!

You should take a few minutes and learn how to set up a floyd rose. It doesn't do the guitar justice to complain about it since you clearly don't know how it works. I own nothing but floyds and edge trem guitars, and they are quite easy to set up once you understand you have to balance the string tension with the springs for the angle of trem you want. Once this is done, you won't have to readjust it unless you change tunings or string gauges. Also, calling the trem on your Ibanez Jem guitar a "floyd rose" is an insult to Ibanez, the edge trem system is a much better and higher quality unit than a real floyd. Just compare the machining and finish of the two and it should be obvious. Not to be all negative, I like the channel from what I've seen and I totally agree about guitars coming in cardboard boxes.

I have been playing Floyd (or the better Ibanez Lo Pro Edge) for 27 years now... I know that they are ok once they are set up... but getting them there is a pain in the ass. Can't go to drop D easily... everything requires time and patience. The benefits are clear, but the fallbacks are clear as well. I agree that the Ibanez one is a better solution, but for me and most people it is a Floyd Rose because that is where it came from, it is merely a further developed version, not a different system.
