We would like to add a couple of comments. The first photo series of the EZ Bird Harness that Brianna demonstrates is of a Medium to Large EZ Bird Harness, which has a webbing neckline. Medium to Large EZ Bird Harnesses also have a REINFORCED front plate to offer added protection from strong beaks. The SMALL EZ Bird Harness does not have a webbing neckline and is shown at a later stage. The Screw-lock Link cannot generally be opened by birds - provided they were securely screwed close. Mind you, knowing some escape artists, they may be able to loosen it over time. So it is important to periodically check the screw lock to make sure that it is still securely closed (especially if you see your pet "working" the screw lock). Note: we test all of our hardware in-house for bird safety.

When she said no bird can unlock a screw link I nearly wet myself laughing. My quaker can undo one of those in seconds.

I suppose it depends on high tightly it is screwed and how strong a pet's beak is. But this being said, there may be a solution: Using TWO screw-lock links instead of one. If a pet has time to unscrew and remove BOTH, the problem would be lack of supervision and pets should be supervised outside for a variety of reasons - including protecting them from predators.

Yeah, my quaker is an escape artist. He can even open a snap. That's what happens when you raise them with all of those foraging toys.

@@evebell9010 Try TWO quick links and keep checking on them. Make sure anything you use is zinc free (if you take them from a bird toy, they should be fine). Just make sure they are SMALL and LIGHT. We use the lightest ones available (the exception being the tiny SNAP links, which could hurt a bird's beak or tongue and shouldn't be used). Also, if you attach the quick link on the back, it won't be quite as "inviting" and easy-to-reach for your pet ... Sibylle

Some birds are very mechanical and those are the ones that are escape artists. I personally don't use any hardware. Our leashes are set up in a way that you can remove the hardware and thread the hand loop through the D ring and then the other end back through the handloop. That creates a knot that cannot be opened. This will work for mechanical birds that like to open hardware. There might be a problem with chewers though. For those, we recommend creating this loop to loop knot in an area that is difficult to reach (back most likely) ...

@SibylleJohnson

It is simple with SOME birds, and VERY DIFFICULT with others. We recommend working with your pet FIRST to get it to the point to accept being man-handled; introduce a harness SLOWLY over time - especially to those birds that are suspicious of anything new in their lives (and most of them will be) ... If your pet doesn't like to be handled - don't get a bird harness until you tamed your pet down to a point where it doesn't mind being handled. Most harness training fails because pet owners are impatient and force a harness onto a pet which then develops a phobia / hate against a harness. Birds are not like dogs - they generally require more time to be harness-trained. Some species are easier to harness train than others. Surprisingly, the larger a pet bird, the more gentler they tend to be. Macaws and Cockatoos are often easier to harness train than lovebirds, conures and african greys (who tend to bite much more readily). Older birds are generally more difficult to harness train than young birds ... We all know the saying: "You can't teach a dog new tricks" ... Well, in reality you CAN, but it will take so much longer ...

Thank you so much! I needed to see how it worked before purchasing.. I have an American Budgerigar, and we tried the Avian Fashions flight suit, but we couldn't figure out a good way to get it on him. My bird didn't know to put his feet through the holes haha! And holding him made him too squirmy to put it on! And the issue with pulling the wing through!? I have high hopes for this harness!
@SibylleJohnson

The belt goes UNDER the wings. So yo don't have to pull the wings through any loops.
@SibylleJohnson
@SibylleJohnson 5 жыл бұрын
PS. the little birds are very squirmy. Plus the parts are small and difficult to handle. We recommend two things: First, sit down at night and disassemble / assemble the harness until you can do it in your sleep ;-) ... Once you know how the harness "works", start training your pet. Pull the head piece over the head ... slowly ... stop and give treats for any progress made. Once the head piece is over the head, have someone distract the pet by preening his head, giving "kisses", talking with the pet, while the other person pulls the two belt ends under the wings to meet at the back. Pull one end through the back loop and close up. This will be difficult. The pet will not like it. Again, having someone there to distract the pet WILL help! If a pet is able to push his legs under the belt, the belt is too loose. Tighten the belt until your pet cannot fits the legs in between the abdomen and belt. Once the belt is properly and securely closed, and the harness is assessed to be a good fit, attach the leash ... Allow your pet to fly indoors until you know it is safe and secure to go out with it. Associating the harness with outdoor fun is the best way to teach your pet to love the harness ...

I actually prefer not to use the D ring or any hard ware when attaching the leash. I thread the handloop through the webbing loop at the back of the harness and thread the leash through it. It attaches the leash to the harness without any hardware. There are photos on our website (beautyofbirds.com) or our Facebook page.

I love the leathery look and overall quality of your product, we own a pet store and we have multiple parrots that we would like to train. My only problem is the catch at the back where you fix the harness to the parrots body does not look secure. As if it might just slip out accidentally. (around 3:24) A clip or something that locks would've been perfect. And putting a harness on a puppet is easy.... I want to see a real life application with flight.

It attaches with a SCREW-LOCK link. There is no more secure clip than that. Of course, one has to screw it tightly otherwise some too-smart-for-their-own-good parrots might be able to unscrew / open those ... For LARGE parrots, we also include a Stainless Steel Spring Snap Link with Screw Lock - something like what can be seen on this page (but different size): www.dbmimports.com/5-PCS-516-Spring-Snap-Hook-with-Locking-Screw-Solid-316-Stainless-Steel_p_3740.html ... So birds would not only have to unscrew, but also to open the spring snap. This link is, unfortunately too heavy for small or even medium-sized parrots.

@@avianwebezbirdharness522 Thank you for the feedback, I did not see the person using this SCREW-LOCK link in the video above so it was my only concern. I own a Blue & Gold macaw, Umbrella Cockatoo, 2 x Galah Cockatoos and an African Grey. Among others. I have tried a few harnesses and wasted hundreds of dollars so I need to be sure before ordering 3 or 4 of these.

@@RealRaslu The heavy-duty screw-lock snap link is included as an optional item in the package of Size 10 and up (Blue & Gold Macaws, Umbrella Cockatoos and birds of similar size). It is not shown in the listings. With larges birds, we usually also include webbing belts as alternatives. We go out of our way to make things work for our feathered friends. Some will chew on webbing and others on pleather. We provide alternative designs for each scenario. We found that most chewing will slow down or stop after a pet has been trained. The beginning is always difficult. Knowing that, we provide we replacement belts / parts for the first month.

What color harness do you have? Your pet learned to hate it; you may be able to try him on a different color. The best colors for training are generally black or a color that is close to your pet's own coloration. We will be glad to send you the top piece of the harness (without the belt) in a different color (just send us an e-mail - sales@avianweb.com. Training should be done SLOWLY. First, get your pet used to seeing the harness (in a safe distance so that he or she can't chew on it). Training sessions should be done BEFORE feeding time. (When your pet is hungry, he or she is not likely to be able to resist a treat.) When a pet is hungry, hold the treat outside the neck loop opened as far as possible and encourage your bird to put his head through the enlarged loop to touch the stick. Do NOT RUSH and never use any force. Your goal is to get your pet comfortable having something around his/her body. Once your pet accepts a treat through the headloop, start moving it over its head - again slowly. Should your pet resist, take a break. The most important aspect is: DO NOT force the harness on your pet. Teach your pet that the harness is something good. As soon as the harness is on provide your pet with lots of positive attention and take outside once you know that the harness is secure.

Terran Pitts haha my bird is the same, sometimes a harness without a strap or belt is easier. make sure your parrot is comfortable with being touched on the wings head and belly to make it easier (it may take some training) and sometimes target training will help as well, try get your bird comfortable with it being around them and then touching them and use treats to encourage any positive behaviour towards the harness like touching it :) I put my hand through the head hole and put a treat in my hand and gradually move my hand back till the parrot is on with it being near their head and you can progress from there. This is all juts my experience and option it just depends on your bird and training style and each harness is different:) hope this helps!

Our belts should be cut to the desired length to be comfortable for a pet. We recommend cutting at an ANGLE (otherwise, it would be difficult to pull through the sliders) and leaving at least 1 inch over, or enough to thread back through the back loop to tidy it up.

Until birds are harness-trained, most will chew on a harness. That is why we provide free belt replacements for 30 days. That is usually what they focus on. Our experience is that birds will either stop chewing or chew much less once they learned to associate a harness with fun (going out - which they usually enjoy [some may be scared at first though]). If a pet continues to chew on a harness, it could be that the harness doesn't fit well. You want to make sure a harness doesn't rub "in the arm pits", for example, or the belt or neckline is too tight ... A comfortable fit is important!

Birds are prey animals and will bite if they feel scared. No matter what harness one uses on a bird, it is important to never go further than a pet bird is comfortable with. Taking each step slowly and praising and rewarding each progress made is important. There are tons of videos on how to train a pet bird. Immersing yourself in that topic will not only allow you to train your pet cool tricks, but also to deal or prevent behavioral issues in the future.

Tip: when showing what not to do, make it clearer. I.e. Don't use a small piece of paper with black text. Use a large piece of fluro-coloured paper with black text, a red cross mark (or something), and a video filter to make it clear that "scene" is showing what not to do. Then show an example of what to do without any of that, and a green tick. (There's cognitive science behind this.)

@SibylleJohnson
@SibylleJohnson 2 жыл бұрын
This video is meant as an instructional resource - to show each step necessary to put the harness on. In order to show every step on a live bird at the different angles, we would most likely have to medicate most pet birds (and we don't do that)! Birds don't like this process and harnesses have to be put quickly on a harness-trained bird. Once they are harness-trained, they are okay with that. We are stil looking for a calmer, cooperative model ... If you know of one, please let us know! Thanks ...
