Free flight | DIY aviator bird harness

warning - beware of tangles, wasps, and birds of prey. make sure the things attached, and only use a stretchy line.
note - discarded fishing line, hair, and loose threads can amputate a birds foot.

I'd recommend just buying a harness. Some harnesses are expensive but there are cheaper options that are still safe. Your bird could get entangled in that line or the line could break and your bird could be gone forever. In my opinion this is very unsafe and I think it would be best just to buy a proper harness. I'm not trying to be hateful I'd just hate for your bird to get hurt or for you to loose your bird :)

Very reckless owner, doesn’t take the advice of others. The bird isn’t even free flight trained, it’s just flying away and he’s pulling it back. Furthermore he’s using a homemade leash that could break the birds leg. The risks are endless, could get caught up on trees, entangled on bird, easier for predators to catch the bird. Either you educated yourself and do better or don’t get birds. Look into free flight training, it takes months of desensitization, recall and operant conditioning training. If on harness then also you need to properly harness train before hand and use a safe harness. It’s not even about just recall training, a lot goes into it. Such people should not own birds

I think you should train the rainbow lorikeet better with more recall because you will just lose your bird like that if it has not learned to fly back to you. Make sure you call it back and not just look for it. Shout loudly so it hears your call. :)

it works great. if he gets tangled i cut the line, reel it in and then rejoin it. best of all he gets to fly. best leave it to an expert tho

No. I teach him a little, like fly back to your cage. sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.

OMG, PLEASE STOP NOW. That poor parrot is in full escape flight mode trying to escape. At the speed they fly when your line ends you’re going to seriously injure your gorgeous parrot. At least put some type of line suspender if you are still going to use this cruel method. It like put a ring around your foot then letting you run at full sprint until you run out of rope and it jerks you back. Come on, stop this nonsense and delete the video asap so no one else harms their bird as well. Big warning to all who may try this.
