Ive been using the ez flash for my gameboy player on my gamecube for a couple of years now and I think it’s great!

Bought this for around 27 euros when it first launched back in late 2019. I tested it with two front-lit European SP and both consoles exhibited auto save issue. The cart would attempt backing up the save file at first, then it would shut itself down all of a sudden. After contacting the customer support, a EZ guy pointed out that deteriorated batteries of my SP were the culpit. Sure enough, when I left the AC adapter plugged in while backing up the save file, the aforementioned issue would disappear. Therefore, I strongly suggest checking the battery and contacts of your console before getting one of these carts. So far, the only other problem I have is the incompatibility with PokeMon Coral, but that rom uses some rather peculiar tricks with MBC30 mapper so I guess the lack of support is understandable.

I've bought mine a couple of months back and it's working great. It didn't work on my modded SP initially because the SP needed a new battery.

Nice to hear that. Did you have the reset issue? I think this maybe related to the Super GB and Super GB 2 only as I didn't have to hit reset when using the cart on a GB Pocket.

@@RetroCore It did with my Super GB (the reset twice thing) but the SP was constantly resetting because of the low battery. What helped too was having a fast SD with very few games.

This is just me guessing, but unlike the GB (physical handheld), SGB appears to have a lockout chip to prevent loading a games from a bootleg carts. I had a multigame cart that works fine on my GB, but it will not boot on a SGB.

The Super GameBoy 1 and 2 are just game boys in an adapter. They're actual real GB hardware but you may be right about the addition of a lick out chip.

The Everdrive X3 is in the same price range as the EZ-Flash, and the X5 barely more expensive (but the EZ-Flash Junior is a competitor of the X3, not the X5, despite what he says, because it requires a reset to write the save, like the X3).

The original ones are more expensive but arguably better build quality. For the GB models though, the EZ Flash units are just as good.

i use an EzFlash Jr. for my gameboy, its pretty nice, the only problem i have with it is sometimes my games that use RTCs can get randomly scrambled and display incorrect information.

Far from it, flash carts which require a reset to write the save are low end ones. The best has to be the Everdrive X7 which allows savestates and in-game menu, but it's a lot more expensive. The X5 is barely more expensive and doesn't require the reset (but no RTC, but there is some rom hacks to remove the need of RTC on Pokemon games, which are almost the only ones to use it, and IMO game genie codes are way more useful).

Similar price to the X5? It shouldn't be anywhere near the price of an X5. It should only be 40 bucks or so at most. The X5 is far more expensive than that. I would take this over the X5 any day for the price! I highly suggest trying a different MicroSD, you should get faster save times. It might not be optimized for the MicroSD you're using. Also try formatting it FAT32 with 32kb cluster size.

Not only the X5 is not that much more expensive ($60), but it doesn't require a reset to write the save, so I would take it over the EZ-Flash Junior anytime. The EZ-Flash is a competitor of the X3, which requires a reset to write the save (only difference with the X5), and is in the same price range.

I was using Fat32 with 32kb cluster size. Maybe it's a crappy SD card. It was an unbranded Chinese one after all.

@@RetroCore Ya that would be my guess. I assume they didn't do much MicroSD optimization for this flash cart, & that is something that DOES need to be done for good speeds. Would bet $ that you'd get better speeds w a popular mainline brand like SanDisk or Samsung.

I had one but it had problems with save files. Sometimes it would save, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would load the save file, sometimes it wouldn't. The gui was clunky and slow while scrolling through the pages of roms. I also got an Everdrive GB clone from Aliexpress which was $5-10 less than the EZ Flash Jr, and it saves/loads fine every time while also having a smoother/faster gui. Eventually I got the official Everdrive GB X7 and it's the best out of all of them.

I can't say what the old firmware was like on the EZ Jr. But the latest firmware seems to have no issues with saves.

Ah, that is true but then it's is always on. I guess you could have two roms. A cheat version and normal version.

I have one too & honestly it's every bit as good if not better than the "official" Everdrive GB for less than half the price! Has more features than the x3 ED does.

Yep, I have the X3 as seen in this video. I do like the cheats on the X3 though but it can't save game data unlike the EZ JR.

A VERY notable feature is you don't have to hit the reset button on the cart itself to save data like you do on the Everdrive. You have to essentially reset it to the menu before turning off the unit. The slow saving might be due to your SD card not being an "optimized" card. Might want to try another card.

I don't think the EZ-Flash Junior as any shortcut to reset, so reset button like the X3. And for like $15 more, the X5 doesn't need that. I would definitely pay those $15 to avoid the pain of having to reset to write the save.

Don't know im having the battery dry message even after changing the battery, it's just annoying, i can save but looks like its having problems resetting sometimes. Im considering selling and getting an everdrive

I have the GBA one and I must say I'm pretty satisfied. I have five Everdrives from Krikizz and EZ-F is as good a competitor as it comes.

Same here. I have Krikizz Everdrive for the SFC, MD, Master System, GB and PC Engine. For the GBA and now GB I use the EZ Flash line. My N64 Everdrive is a Chinese knock off but it works.

On Gamecube: When i insert the cartridge to my GBPlayer it shows the gameboy logo, no visual glitches or anything but then it says loading.. and osinit.. then it resets, the gameboy logo again but this time, there is no loading screen, just resets over and over in the gameboy screen.

I will always blame Nintendo for that, my friend even don't know what GBC is and when I say its GameBoy but have color they say "oh you mean GBA", my face at that time 😧.
