In this video, I do a full overview of my experience with receiving and testing out the EZ-Flash Junior Flash Cart for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. I purchased this like anyone else would have right from the front end of the flashcarda website, and had no issues with that process. Honestly aside, from the less than thoughtful shipping packaging, I am generally really pleased with this cart and my purchasing experience.
This cart does absolutely work in the original DMG Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Pocket and pretty much everything right on up to the Gameboy Advance SP console. I was surprised to see it even works with the Super Nintendo Super Game Boy player too. That being said, it will not work with the Nintendo DS or DS Lite.
I use my backlit screen modded Game Boy Color I made in a previous video to show this off, but if you are interested in making your own, you can watch that video here: • The Ultimate Gameboy C...
I purchase this cart from flashcarda, which you can right here: flashcarda.com...
BUT you can find these on various websites like Retro Modding and Amazon:

@GameplayandTalk

@@anon4606 All right, so I actually just found the solution. I was using it on a Super Game Boy and was just getting a black screen. Turns out there's a reset button on the front of the cart.. behind the plastic shell, so it's not super obvious. The button has to be held down on powering up the console, then let go, and then I have to press it again to activate the EZ Flash menu after the Super GB does its thing (should make its usual startup sound and say "Super Game Boy" at the bottom of the screen). Games load fine from there. The front button on the cart will reset back to the flash cart menu, otherwise a power cycle or console reset requires you to go through that process again. I'm not sure how this functionality works on a standard GB or GB Pocket as I don't have any to test with right now.

One note - Due to variations in the DMG and GBC motherboards, sometimes the EZ Flash won't work with your model. I have an EverDrive too, and that's never had an issue with compatibility, but I have hit one DMG and two GBCs that just refused to recognize the EZFlash cart. I've tested a bunch of others have haven't had issues tho. From the forums, it looks like they are constantly adding support for new variants.

Nice and very thorough review. I know the Everdrive GB X7 is a fantastic cart but $130 is a bit steep for only a casual fan of the original Gameboy IMO. I already own a SNES Everdrive and Mega Everdrive because I'm more into those consoles. The load time on this cart is a drag but I guess I expect some compromises on something that costs half as much as the competitor.

I tend to counter that with Rechargeable Double As with a charger for them, they are more pricy then disposables on the offset but if your gonna be using a GB, GBC, or GBA often, they are very helpful and a very wise investment get a pack of 4 to 8 of them with a charger and youll have plenty of play time and when your not using it you can charge the batteries so you have them for a trip for later. Also another advantage to the GBC, and GB over the GBA is if you have the plug for it you can plug the GB/GBC directly into the mains with a DC charger completely eliminating that problem all together when your at home.

A HUGE benefit of this over the X3 Everdrive is with this one you don't have to hit the button on the cart itself to reset it in order to get your save data to save to the cart. A really good affordable flashcart. I'm using mine to play the Pokemon Crystal Clear romhack and I've yet to notice a single issue, it's been great! Only thing I've had trouble with was getting the sd card into the slot, it's impossible to just push the card in with your finger so I have to resort to using a pencil to get in it or out. Otherwise it's basically perfect for me.

I think you missed one of most important points about these cheaper flash carts. Battery drain. The battery drain on EZ flash carts is crazy compared to say Everdrive and after only a small amount of use I'd say Everdrives pay for themselves. In some cases battery drain on EZ flash is 100% more than Everdrives which is insane. If you're on a budget and especially if you don't use Eneloops, save up and invest in an Everdrive. Otherwise you're potentially spending a huge amount on batteries.

Hey, great vid, it was nice and concise, i bought this cart and im still waiting for it to arrive, but I have a question i cant seem to find on any reddit or mod forum about this cart; Where does the cart keep saved game data? does it save them in that "Saver" folder in your root directory? and do I have to make a "Saver" folder or will the cartridge make the folder by itself? I got this cart for a specific purpose only but realized really quickly that while I am not using it for that purpose, I have more than enough space to dump some of my games on it as well. I did notice the sticker on it was, as you said, cheap, and seemingly just thrown on there as my carts sticker didn't even line up with the concave edges it was supposed to be set within. With that in mind, I wasn't even planning to keep the sticker there and had already purchased a sticker for my specified purpose to replace it anyway. Other than that, the card is very solid and easy to use. I have had no problem with it so far, granted it being a few weeks in my ownership but yeah. And the reset button on the cart itself I find handy as well. I went ahead and hid the 2 files needed to run it and update it on my desktop so they wouldn't show up on my screen in the gameboy at all to make it look that much cleaner, it still works as intended since the files are hidden, they are still there but do not show and I like that. I had already figured out what I needed for it before watching this video but wanted to say thank you anyway. Your other videos have done me a favor in knowing what the next purchase is going to be so those were especially helpful for that when the time comes.

Strange, I've tried it with the super gameboy and it didn't work, didn't even show the start menu. Also from 82 games that I've loaded on the memory card, only 76 games work on my gameboy. For example Super Mario land 1,2 and 3, kirby's dreamland 2 and a few others don't work, but most others do work. I wonder why this is.

Only real downside I can give it is that's it's a power hungry flashcart and drains batteries at more than double the speed of regular games [especially in startup], so unless you have a rechargable battery pack mod or good rechargable AA batteries it's a bit of a drag

Is this the same as an El Cheapo?
@Restalgia
@Restalgia 4 жыл бұрын
It is diffferent. I actually love BennVenn products. The ElCheapo does not have the Real Time Clock (RTC) feature so any game that requires that wouldn't function as developed. Still playable for the most part but you miss out on the use of that feature.

What's the difference of emulating on like a GBC game on a ez flash omega or playing the original hardware?
@TheMushMe
@TheMushMe 4 жыл бұрын
omega uses goomba emulation to run gbc/gb games, and for me personally, the save files always get deleted randomly So by using ez jr which runs the rom natively and not emulation, ive not had my save files deleted anymore

Diego Raphael Machado I’m pretty sure the system boots into GB mode when GB/GBC cartridges activate a switch. It’s only possible to use one (GB) or the other (GBA), emulation was probably the only way around it

@@RandomizationShow didnt know that, cool. Yeah, thats why i just use it for GBA games, im going to get one of these when i can. Buying individual cartridges is not great financially hehe, but emulating kinda sucks too.

Are game saves effected by dry battery on the EZ Flash Omega?
@Restalgia
@Restalgia 4 жыл бұрын
Yes they would be. Its good practice to swap batteries every 5 or so years and you can do it without losing save data by jumping a temporary second battery into the mix

@@Restalgia according to the EZ Flash website the game saves are saved to the SD card and the battery is ONLY for the real time clock, so if I'm not playing any games that use in game clocks (like Pokemon for example) I should be okay if the battery dies right?
