Been a SD user for years and just downloaded EZdrummer 2. Then opened up your awesome tutorial. Thanks! And hey, great to see Studio One! I switched from PT and I'm so so grateful for this DAW. Keep em coming!

Thank you! Glad you liked the tutorials. I absolutely love Toontrack products, especially Superior Drummer 2. Speaking of, keep an eye out for an extensive tutorial series on that plugin in 2015. I've never used Pro Tools myself but I previously used Digital Performer, and I must say that I am definitely glad I moved to Studio One, it really is a great DAW.

DrumAngleOfficial You did a fantastic job using whatever screen-grab software you own! Is it CAMTASIA? The quality and everything is brilliant!
@DrumangleOfficial9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliments! I am using Camtasia, specifically Camtasia 2 for Mac. I then export it out and do some additional editing and grading in Premiere Pro. As far as screen capturing is concerned though, Camtasia is certainly the way to go!

DrumAngleOfficial Yes, I can really see to what extent having professional A/V software enhances ones material. I think for CAMTASIA and SNAGIT is about £220. I downloaded TRAIL versions of SONY VEGAS, A-POWERSOFT and another I can't remember. Anyway, all three were totally dreadful!

But I could adjust the pitch of individual kits, such as snare and kick separately as opposed to what you said at 4:05, that the feature is reserved for superior drummer 2. Did I miss something?
@DrumangleOfficial10 жыл бұрын
That is correct, you can adjust the individual pitch of each instrument within EZdrummer 2, but not each individual ARTICULATION. In the tutorial I'm talking about how in Superior Drummer 2, you have the ability to adjust each individual articulation, (such as the snare center, snare edge, rim shot, side stick, muted snare, etc.), separately whereas in EZdrummer 2, the volume/pitch dial adjusts the volume and pitch for the entire voice or instrument. So if you adjust the snare drum pitch and volume in EZdrummer 2, you are adjusting ALL the inherent articulations. In Superior Drummer 2 you have the added flexibility to adjust each articulation individually with regard to pitch and volume, and even envelope and velocity curves. This added flexibility in Superior Drummer 2 is absolutely great for fine tuning the response of the virtual drums. I think the confusion came from the difference in verbiage between an instrument/voice (entire drum including all associated articulations) and an articulation (a distinct sound of that individual drum by playing on different parts of the instrument utilizing various techniques). Anyway, hopefully that makes sense and I apologize for any confusion!

Correct. Thanks bro. I have both on my machines. The superior drummer gives room for more controls. Good tutorial👍
@DrumangleOfficial10 жыл бұрын
jzealmedia Glad to help! Owning and using both products is definitely the way to go. I love the sound of the new EZdrummer 2 core libraries and the mix presets, however I always open them in Superior Drummer 2 to take advantage of the added control you have there.

DrumAngleOfficial same here bro. I open Superior Drummer 2 only when I need some unavoidable controls and tweaks.

Thanks for the thorough tutorial. It was very helpful. If I've done a tap 2 find and the pre-set drum beat that shows up is at 108 bpm, can I alter the tempo of this if I want to either slow it down or speed it up (eg if I decide to change the speed of my song)? Or is that drum style set only at that tempo? How do I change the tempo for any of the drum beats? I'm not talking about the bit you demonstrated where there was that tempo dial when you were tapping out, but later on once you've found your results or have constructed an entire song with all the verse and chorus parts. How do you change the tempo of the whole thing if you decide it should actually be slower or faster? Thanks.

I like to use my little Roland HD-3 as a trigger. Can you point me to a video that shows how to make each drum trigger play certain sounds. If I wanted to make my snare sound like a hand clap, for example. Thanks
@DrumangleOfficial10 жыл бұрын
Do you own Superior Drummer 2 AND EZdrummer 2 or just EZdrummer 2? If you own Superior Drummer 2, you can open up the Modern/Vintage EZdrummer 2 libraries and use Superior Drummer 2 to remap specific sounds to specific drums. So for a hand clap sound, simply select that drum (right click) within Superior Drummer 2, make sure you choose the articulation you want (if there are multiple articulation options), then hit the LEARN button at the bottom right hand corner of the Superior Drummer 2 interface. The next drum you hit will be mapped to trigger the hand clap sample. You follow these steps to quickly map out various samples for your electronic drums or MIDI controller. If you don't own Superior Drummer 2, then it's a bit more involved. In order to map a sound like the hand clap, shaker or tambourine (or any specific sample) to your drums, you will have to find out what MIDI note is used to trigger those sounds, and configure your electronic pad to send out that specific MIDI note on your drum module, in your case your Roland HD-3. You will want to keep track of what MIDI note your pad is currently sending out, that way you can quickly change it back to default if you need to. On the HD-3, you hold down the "VARIATION" button, and select Parameter 7, which is the Note Mapping parameter. Hit the drum who's note mapping you want to modify and select the MIDI note value (0-127) that you want that drum to send out. (For more information on parameter adjustments for the Roland HD-3, view pages 14-16 of the Owners Manual, downloadable from Roland's website.) Within EZdrummer 2, you can view a drum map layout by clicking on MENU, selecting the "Sound Libraries" option within the drop down menu, selecting the library that you're using and then selecting "MIDI Layout". You can also select a drum within EZdrummer 2, and in the box that appears next to the selected drum, click on the DETAILS button to view the MIDI note mapping information for each articulation. You can toggle the "Key" button on and off to view it as MIDI numbers or notes. The hand clap, shaker and tambourine samples use MIDI note numbers 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Is there any way to "Program" each bar exactly the way you want it with breaks and all like a drum machine, or do we _have_ to use and manipulate the patterns given?
@matiasdiez70018 жыл бұрын
Hello, this is great intro. I just got my EzDrummer working with Cubase and this cam really in Handy. Just one question, how can I create my own samples or modify an existin one? Is there a place where I can go a see the sample and modify it or create my own by passing the notes or actually writting the samples?
@DrumangleOfficial8 жыл бұрын
You can't using your own samples in EZdrummer 2 or Superior Drummer 2, you can only use the libraries provided by Toontrack. But you can use any of your these libraries that you have loaded, even from different libraries in both products. As for editing the samples themselves, the only editing capabilities are the Pitch/Mix knobs in EZdrummer 2 and the Insert FX in Superior Drummer 2, along with the Pitch/Envelope adjustments. You can also use the Edit Play Style to manipulate the MIDI in EZdrummer 2 and you can use the Velocity Curves in Superior Drummer 2. Otherwise you'll have to edit the actual MIDI in a piano-roll type MIDI editor in a DAW. But as for creating your own actual samples and using them in these products, that's not currently a feature.

I am in need of easy beats with AB verse/ Chorus and Bridge so I can focus on all other aspects of my songwriting. Can I get this from EZ Drummer?
@DrumangleOfficial7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. EZdrummer 2 and Superior Drummer 3 come with MIDI grooves and you can buy supplemental MIDI packs from Toontrack's website.

Great Video!!! Would you recommend purchasing this product over EZ Drummer 1. I have an opportunity to snag an old copy of 1 for like 35 bucks. Thoughts??
@DrumangleOfficial10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would absolutely recommend this product over EZ Drummer 1. $35 is a steal for EZ Drummer 1, however the feature set of EZ Drummer 2 justifies the purchase price in my opinion. EZ Drummer 1 provides a decent enough sample library with some options to manipulate the sounds. As for the MIDI files it contains, there's minimal variation controls. EZ Drummer 2 on the other hand provides a much better sounding and a much larger sample library. You also have a lot more options for fine tuning your drum sound on an individual drum basis and in the mixer with various FX chains. However, the big difference is in what EZ Drummer 2 provides for songwriting capabilities. EZ Drummer 2 offers a far more intuitive way to find a MIDI groove or create your own, bring it into a song track and manipulate it in almost endless ways and create an ENTIRE drum track, all within the plugin itself. So if you're wanting to create drum loops or drum tracks quickly, EZ Drummer 2 is the way to go. Even if not, I think it's worth it to jump right into EZ Drummer 2 if you can spring for the money...You won't be disappointed.

DrumAngleOfficial Great to know. I've been trying to get a live electronic drum setup that I can use for gigging....lot of stuff out there but its hard to figure out what works and what is more trouble than it's worth!!
@DrumangleOfficial10 жыл бұрын
Phil Maston I completely understand. I've spent a significant amount of time trying to figure it all out myself. You'll have to keep an eye out for when my website launches...a good portion of the site will be dedicated to this kind of information and how to utilize this technology in both studio and live settings. I've used Superior Drummer 2 for live gigs for years now and have been very pleased with it's performance. I'm sure EZ Drummer 2 would work great as well, you just don't have quite as many trigger response settings as you do in Superior Drummer 2, but that's the point of EZ Drummer 2, it's more of a plug-and-play type of product. You may also want to check out Addictive Drums 2, it was released just a couple of days ago. I will be releasing an Overview video of this product very soon. It's an impressive software package as well. You can actually purchase it for cheaper than EZ Drummer 2 (depending on which vender you choose) however you don't get quite as many drums as you do with EZ Drummer 2 and you don't have the intuitive songwriting features. However, you do have more options with regard to manipulating the sound of the drums themselves. Addictive Drums 2 is more like Superior Drummer 2 in that it is more of a sound design and production tool than a songwriting tool. So it really depends on what you're wanting to do with the software: Use the software for live performance with little to no tweaking (EZ Drummer 2)...or use the software for live performance while having full control over the response of each drum and articulation (Superior Drummer 2 and Addictive Drums 2). You may want to use it for studio productions as a songwriter would to get your ideas out quickly (EZ Drummer 2), or you may want to dig in and manipulate the sound of each drum with numerous sound design options (Superior Drummer 2 and Addictive Drums 2). All in all, it's an exciting time for this type of technology with so many great options to choose from...
