Classic Shootie tutorial. This is vital - even if you're an old hand - it makes for sound (musically and technically) set ups for a vast host of applications. Complete with "standard" Shootie music tips (like audition the immediately preceding clip before auditioning to get the feel). Even some basic stuff about the function of the musical structures you are building..... There are also tasty morsels of the numerous refinements to come (in the next tutorial....) a staggering piece of training just 6 weeks out from EZD3's release. Great job and many thanks....

Wow! Made my day. Shootie popped up on my first search. I have EZ Drummer 2. last used it November 2019. About to get back using my DAW and EZ Drummer 2. After reading about the new Bandmate, I decided I am definitely going to upgrade. So, I searched youtube for bandmate drag and drop wav to Daw the first video I clicked on was the best: I was elated to see Shootie, because I owe it to him for being the one who taught me how to create my first drum beats in EZ 2. I was wondering if there was anyone on youtube talking about 3, and like magic I found Shootie again. So, I know as soon as I get ready, I will dive in review his previous videos and then move onto the new. Thanks a million for what you do Shootie!

Hi, Great tutorial. With EZY Drummer 2 when you hover the mouse over the time line it tells you the name of the groove. (Ballad, straight 4/4, slow rock 75bpm, fill no.5) Do you know if there's a way to do this in EZY Drummer 3? Would save me writing them down. Thanks

I don't think so. Instead, Right-click on a Groove and select Find>Select Containing Folder. If you have a clean install of EZD, it should find your Groove every time.
@supergongspa

Hey fella. I love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing 🙂 I wonder if you can help me figure out the solution to a problem. I'm using Reaper and EZdrummer 3. I write using the region playlist. So I'm writing chunks of songs, one at a time, making each chunk a region, and then using the playlist to re-roder the chunks until I'm happy with the song structure. Due to the nature of my songs, this is a very in depth and messy process. The beauty is that onec I have everything in the right order I can paste the region playlist at the edit cursor and everything is in order. Great! But..... the drums I wrote throughout the process (using EZdrummer 3 as a VST in reaper) don't get copied across to the newly pasted song. Do you know if there is a way to get them to paste into place or do I have to cut up all the sections of the EZdrummer work I originally did, and paste it all into it's new positions by hand? I'm hoping your experience covers this and that you might have a lovely solution! Thanks for any attempt. It's very much appreciated as I'm wasting so much time with this problem. Martyn 🙂
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
If your midi is in EZ, then you have to do the arranging edits again in EZ. That does not sync. If you're in Reaper, then I'm not sure what your issue is.
@supergongspa
@supergongspa Жыл бұрын
@@ShootieSchool I'm kind of in both. I'm using EZ as a vst within Reaper, not as a standalone. I make a baseline in reaper, and then open up EZ within Reaper to write the kit for it (because I prefer the interface in EZ). But then when, in reaper, I paste the region playlist at the edit cursor, the EZ midi doesn't paste itself across. The only way I can make the drums sounds paste across is to take the midi out of EZ and put it into reaper itself before pasting the region playlist at the edit cursor. Then it pastes across in reaper, which is fine in itself but annoying because then I'm stuck with editing those drums in reaper which is a less fun drum editing interface. So it's either get the drums perfect before pasting the region playlist (not very likely to happen because the desire to change things up always comes again and again), or go through some laborious process of chopping up the EZ midi and moving it all one piece at a time . Sorry, it's really complicated to describe.
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
@@supergongspa It's not complicated, your last paragraph confirmed. You're at the limitation of the EZD Song Track. Simply make a choice, one way or the other. There's no further solution. I deal with the extra arranging and stay in EZ. Everyone has their preference though.
@supergongspa

@@ShootieSchool Yeah. I bought an Alesis DM-10 MKII Pro, but because I had a past knee injury (playing Soccer), I bought another kick pad & 2 independent pedals as one leg will be weaker than the other for sure. The kit isn't mounted yet. I just received my pedals yesterday and I'm waiting for the 2nd kick (covid related delay until July). Any video you're doing is interesting, but yeah, I'll want to plug my kit and play with triggers and a DAW eventually so I can track what I learn from total noob to decent hobbyist and avoid the module samples, which I've heard aren't that great... Beside, I noticed that a lot of people have edrums now, but never show what they did to get the darn thing to trigger EZD/SD. They just go straight to doing song covers, so I believe that you would have a niche of new content that doesn't exist on KZbin, since most people use MIDI piano or pads to design their drum tracks.

There is no shuffle editing. So you can only drag over something to overwrite it. Or you must make room manually. A reason some use a DAW instead of EZDdrummer's Song Track for arranging.

Hey, looks like my comment was deleted. I came back to respond with appreciation. Are we not allowed to leave links? My intention was for you to hear some of the stuff I've done with EZ Drummer and hopefully give me some feedback on how to improve. Sorry if I overstepped, I'm not someone who goes around spamming posts. I'm subscribed and look forward to learning more :)

I always make a whole song with Guitar and Bass and then add the Drums. Is this rare? Or do others do it like that too?
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool 2 жыл бұрын
I would think it's common. I typically start with the instrument that has inspired me to write in the first place. Sometime I'll go part by part with every instrument, or a full pass with a single instrument as you're saying.

I had EZ1 and EZ2 and they worked flawlessly. But I'm having trouble bouncing the finished track back to Cubase. It's weird but one of the crash cymbals didn't play in the 2nd half of the song and I can't figure it out. I exported it 10 times and it doesn't play. I also noticed that even when I'm playing the track back in real time inside EZ3 sometimes that particular cymbal won't play in that same section. Very weird...

@@ShootieSchool All I know is when I play the track it's normal but when I bounce into DAW the whole outro of my song plays without the crash even though it shows on the Grid Editor as being there. Weird...

Hi there , my name is John , im 60 years old and playing the guitar since i was 13 . Thanks for your work . i really like the toontrack instruments , but i never really learned how they work because of not much tutorials to find on youtube that could keep my attention as the video went on ! your video instead , i ve watched it till the end . Now i will watch the second one in this serie , and i will check out your other Toontrack video's aswell , specially those about ezbass and ezkeys , and maybe ill find a video about them working all together ,a video which explains in a clear way that i can understand. I m from the french speaking part of Belgium , that also explains the errors in this writing , if there are any ! 🤔 Again i want to thank you for your work , and keep on rocking , in a free world !

funny writing a song from drums...

I have a serious problem with this whole philosophy of creating a drum track as the BASIS of a song: it just doesn't make for a cool sound. It should be all about the drummer playing TO the band; not the other way around.

Same for me, whether with a band or on my own I always add drum parts as live takes later, with the keyboards, bass, guitars etc usually already sequenced and recorded to a click track. It means I can be more creative, adaptive to the music and focus solely on my part during the take. Starting out with a beat first usually boxes the music into being about a groove or verse/bridge/chorus type song. If for example writing Progressive Rock / Metal or a mixture of styles in one song, you need to keep everything less nailed down and defined so it can have some unexpected outcomes.
