Join me on an epic 6-day solo canoe trip along the River Spey in Scotland, as I attempt to traverse 123km from Kingussie to Spey Bay. With 5 nights of wild camping and canoeing, I'll take you on a journey through some of Scotland's most beautiful and ancient forests, showcasing dream campsites that await to be discovered.
Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for the incredible wildlife that calls the River Spey home, from salmon swimming upstream to spawn, to majestic deer, herons, and even the endangered freshwater pearl mussel.
Fighting the elements of wind and rain, and navigating whitewater rapids and fallen trees, will be part of the challenge. But with both my trusty hammock and tent, I'll take advantage of the stunning landscape and find the perfect spots to set up camp.
I hope you'll join me on this truly epic adventure, as we traverse the River Spey and explore Scotland's natural beauty. From the thrill of whitewater rapids to the peace of ancient forests, this journey has something for everyone. So sit back, relax, and let's begin!
Please drop me a comment!
If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!
Adventure awaits,
Eze

Great trip! The first part of the river remind me a lot of the Thames here in south Ontario right about till you get in to a little more whitewater. Beautiful river full of lessons and what a reward at the end to and up on the ocean! The sound the waves made on the rocks is very neat! Awesome job in picking up all the garbage along the way too👌 Respect!👊

Mark! Those rapids were awesome!! So glad I was able to catch a bit of the salmon leaping! I filmed the river a lot in 120 frames per second to try and get it in slow motion, which would have been SICK! I caught that one at 40 fps which is why the quality of the shot isn't great, but grateful nonetheless! Thanks for watching my friend

Thanks for the video. I'm the definition of slow when it comes to setting up or breaking camp, so I can appreciate the extra time and effort it must take you, with several camera angles and whatnot. You mentioned freshwater mussels, those can be found in all the Nordic countries at least, maybe elsewhere in Northern Europe too.

Hey mate! Slow to break camp ey? We'd get along lol! Yeah it's quite nice when you're alone, cos you can be as sloooooow as you want! Thank you Richard I really appreciate that! It’s 90% mental, you can do it. Also there’s no greater fear than that of the unknown. I find I often feel more fear in my bed whilst I’m looking over maps than when I’m actually in the situation itself assessing it in real time. The irony!

Were they quite flexible and did your feet overheat in them? Am looking for a neoprene welly boot. I have a pair of palm boots, but want to keep my feet dry, and also with a good grippy sole. Many thanks and all the best. Matthew 👍🏼

@@Maffpalmer Mate I cannot rate those muck boots high enough, I absolutely LOVE them to bits. 10/10. They are so freaking comfortable and incredibly warm, but I've never overheated in them yet. Honestly one of my favourite pieces of kit, absolutely love them. Only downside is that if they get wet inside they take long to dry. But that's never been a significant downside for me.

Nice video and a new sub here. I do have a few criticisms as someone who lives in the Cairngorms National Park. Firstly those freshwater pearl mussels - it’s illegal to touch or disturb them so holding it up to the camera isn’t cool. Also fires in the national park are banned, I know there are existing fire pits and most of your fires were on islands but it’s probably not something to be promoted or glamorised by people with influence. Pretty much all the ground here is peat and even though the fire can be completely out on the surface the peat can burn for a long time underground and spread to pop up in new locations, there’s numerous wild fires each year started by fires or disposable bbqs lit on peat. I am a huge fan of all your litter picking though and how you tidied up after your fires, so I’m not bashing you at all, just trying to share some knowledge 👊🏽 safe travels…

Lovely river! I'm always surprised to see such a place in a country with a substantial population. I noticed that you choose your tent rather than hammock shelter when both options are available. I have a four season mountaineering tent that has served me well over several decades, but I'm seriously considering getting an Amok because anywhere below timberline in our mountains it is often difficult to find a level place to set it up.
@EzeAdventurer
@EzeAdventurer 2 жыл бұрын
I get you re below timberline, the amok becomes a great option man! It's a superb product. I guess if you pressed me, I'd say I still prefer a tent in a flat spot pitch etc, but when that becomes harder to come by, the amok really shines! Take care mate!

I saw Wye valley Canoe helped you out on that trip but was wondering if you have any way of securing the Canoe and equipment if you have to find your own way back to the car? Awesome video dude. 👌 Really enjoyable watch. I've been looking for a multi day canoe and wild camping trip in Scotland, and this has given me real inspiration. What time of year did you go, and how buggy was it? It looked like they weren't too bad aside from at the end? Also, how did you manage the drop off and collection back to your car? Keep up the great work man, I'm now working my way through your other content! 😊

I did this in September I think, not buggy at all, even the end bit wasn't much, I was being a sissy. I used highland yaks for the collection from spey bay to take me back to my car. Thanks and hope you get on the water real soon matey!

@@EzeAdventurer don’t get me wrong, I love your sense of adventure and wanderlust. But it was clear from the beginning you have very little experience. 1. Paddle grip, position and strokes wrong 2. Position in the boat wrong in almost every shot 3. River reading almost non existent. The Spey can be a notorious river, if you inspire others with little experience to follow you then someone could lose there life. This is a wonderfully shot video and you clearly have some amazing cinematography skills but the use of KZbin comes with responsibility. No offence meant. Hope you can see my point of view 🙏
