Welcome to an unforgettable journey deep into the Yukon wilderness, just 500km south of the Arctic Circle! Over 12 incredible days, join me on this solo, unsupported 375km paddling expedition that will leave you breathless and inspired.
🚣‍♂️ With just over 2 years of paddling experience, I tackle the untamed wilderness, starting from Quiet Lake and concluding the expedition in Carmacks. This solo adventure is packed with awe-inspiring moments, from conquering 3 lakes to navigating 2 powerful river systems: the Big Salmon and the mighty Yukon itself.
🎣 Get ready for a true outdoor enthusiast's dream! I encounter and cook up beautiful fish such as trout, grayling, and pike, indulging in the taste of freshly caught grayling, fried to perfection. It's a wilderness culinary experience you won't want to miss!
🌦️ Mother Nature doesn't hold back, and neither do I. Experience the thrill of facing intense weather, including lightning storms, hail, and heavy rain, where setting up camp becomes a race against time. Some days, I succeed; others, I embrace the wild rain.
🦟 The mosquito-infested first 4-5 days will have you living vicariously through my bug jacket as I battle clouds of persistent mosquitoes attacking any exposed skin, a testament of resilience.
🪵 Logjams become formidable obstacles this year, requiring portaging through thick willow, brush, and undergrowth. These challenges test my mettle, making every paddle stroke a victory.
💫 My spirits run high throughout the trip as I discover breathtaking camp spots, including picturesque river islands that offer open-air bliss and respite from the mosquitoes. The deep silence and solitude of this pristine wilderness create moments of absolute bliss.
🌅 With the Yukon sun rising before 5 am and setting after 11 pm, the long paddling days are filled with opportunities to explore crystal-clear mountain creeks, go fishing, or simply bask in the purity of the wilderness. Sunny days mean swimming, laundry, and immersion in nature's beauty.
🔥 Distant wildfires add a touch of surreal beauty, filling the air with a hazy, smoky atmosphere that enhances your sensory experience. I take advantage of open sites to enjoy panoramic views and even set up my hammock in treed areas for stunning river views from my sleeping quarters.
🦅 Wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled! Witness over 10 beavers, chipmunks, woodpeckers, otters, ospreys, and the majestic bald eagles. Plus a graceful black bear crossing the river!
🎣 Fishing enthusiasts, you're in for a treat! I caught over 15 grayling, trout, and several pike during this epic solo journey.
Join me on this exhilarating adventure of a lifetime as I shatter the boundaries of my comfort zone. The Yukon wilderness is waiting to be explored, and if I can do it solo, so can you! Hit that subscribe button, and let's embark on this unforgettable journey together!
🌄 Don't forget to like, comment, and share your thoughts on this incredible adventure! And as always, stay tuned for more exciting expeditions! 🌲

That has to be one of the best videos I've ever watched on KZbin mate. That entire scene of getting off the water to set up camp, watching the clouds roll in and the rain approach. You had Laura shouting at the TV "He's left the lid off his barrel" Then when the storm hit, on my word! Top class filming.

I have really been enjoying watching your Yukon trip videos. THANKS! Someone may have suggested this ny now, but if you orient your tent and canoe parallel to the wind, it will be much less likely to cause damage, allow rain into your tent or send your canoe into the river. See you on the water Cheers!

Welcome to wonderful Canadian weather, gotta love it! It can be quite scary though. I was on a smallish mountain range once when on a multi-day backpacking trip and was stormed stayed due to a hurricane that passed by off shore. I must admit though, as scary as it was, it was exhilarating! I am betting this will be a trip you will never forget and perhaps you will go back! I hear once the Yukon gets a hold on you, it is not easy to separate from it. It is definitely on my bucket list, let's hope I get the chance! Wonderful Part 2, thanks for sharing. :) :)

Looks like you had the time of your life! That wild mixed weather is the best kind you can have - for all those beautiful shots you got but also just to be there as the weather changes is so beautiful. Amazing trip to a very wild part of the world. Having lived in the Yukon for 3 years I certainly felt nostalgic watching. I was a lot concerned by your choices of such open exposed campsites in that weather. That hail storm could have ended your trip. Also surprised that you did not see moose often along the river banks. Looking forward to more!

Thanks so much! Yeah to be honest the availability of camp sites was quite limited.. and I wanted to keep progressing. Treed campsites were few and far between, and the bugs were pretty horrendous. Yeah the storm could have ended the trip, but the tent did exceptionally well and I was in high spirits for most of it! Me too regarding the Moose, I was expecting to see many

@@EzeAdventurer I hear you! quick deployment and tear down is key especially on trips like this where you covered so much ground. I use a tiny asymmetrical tarp that came from a hammock (Hennessy asym ultralight?? Eze, it’s rain, not lava! Put on your rain gear and paddle. It’s a river not some huge wide lake. *okay, that one at 1:09:00 I’d have sought shelter for absolutely! 22:30 isn’t it funny how the more firewood you saw, the longer the pieces get? 😆
@EzeAdventurer
@EzeAdventurer 8 ай бұрын
Yeah it's not so much the rain itself, it's more the threat of what's possibly coming, and some stretches of 10-15km without any proper shelter / camping options can make you nervous about continuing on the river etc! haha re the firewood.. totally!

@@EzeAdventurer Lots of places wich is quite spectacular here in Norway, but the wildest parts of Norway may be Børgefjell or the perhaps some parts of the highlands of Northern Norway. But Jotunheimen National Park and Femundsmarka National Park is a favorite of mine. Since you like to paddle canoe, then I can recommend to drive to Käringsjön in Sweden wich has canoe rental, and start your adventure there and paddle into Norway through Rogen Nature Reserve and Femundsmarka National Park. A fantastic trip wich can be done in a week or so if you take your time and enjoy the fishing and nature.

Hahah don't worry about the bears, I reckon even the bear spray industry is a bit of BS and moneymaker. Worry about the wet rocks, the axe, the day to day risks! It's so beautiful, really hope you can go. I think I may have used just over one. I had quite a lot left over I think. Bear in mind, I was cooking the most efficient types of food that just required 500ml of boiling water, and occasionally frying some fish. If you plan to eat more "traditional" cooked meals, then you'll need significantly more. Having said that, getting a little fire going or taking a bush box would more than cover the risk of running out of fuel. Plenty of fuel everywhere.

Thanks so much. Good question and yes it's a risk always. I'm only doing that on creeks that are coming from very high altitude (I check on my maps and can see they come from about 1200m up). The temperature of the water is freezing, indicating v high likelihood that it's coming from snowmelt. (I measured the water temp once and it was 7c, vs the river water being around 18c+). Also, Giardia takes 7-10 days to set in I think. There's always a risk
