@MindShiftSkeptic Note how in verse 3 the Ruach Elohim says there's a true Elohim. Which means there's a false Elohim. Spoiler Alert: Yahweh Elohim from Genesis 2 is the false Elohim. 2 Chronicles 15: 1-7 Names of God Bible 15 The Ruach Elohim came to Azariah, son of Oded. 2 Azariah went to Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all you men from Judah and Benjamin. Yahweh is with you when you are with him. If you will dedicate your lives to serving him, he will accept you. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you. 3 For a long time Israel was without the true Elohim, without a priest who taught correctly, and without Moses’ Teachings. 4 But when they were in trouble, they turned to Yahweh Elohim of Israel. When they searched for him, he let them find him. 5 At those times no one could come and go in peace, because everyone living in the land had a lot of turmoil. 6 One nation crushed another nation; one city crushed another. Elohim had tormented them with every kind of trouble. 7 But you must remain strong and not become discouraged. Your actions will be rewarded.” Psalm 122:4 All of Yah’s tribes go to that city because it is a law in Israel to give thanks to the name of Yahweh. Isaiah 63:16 You are our Ab. Even though Abraham doesn’t know us and Israel doesn’t pay attention to us, O Yahweh, you are our Ab. Your name is our Go’el From Everlasting. Jeremiah 15:1 Then Yahweh said to me, “Even if Moses and Samuel were standing in front of me, I would not feel sorry for these people. Send them away from me, and let them go.

Was talking to a Christian who was espousing biblical inerrancy and cited prophecy as a reliable point of history, specifically Tyre. The destruction of Tyre is often a point for fulfilled prophecy. Ezekiel mentions that the city would have nations rise against it, and indeed many have. Unfortunately the last verse in regards to Tyre mentions that it would become desolate and never be rebuilt. Tyre still exists btw, and people do still live there. I read the apologetics for it and talk about adding words to ensure textual harmony. They focused on "rebuilt" saying that it meant "rebuilt to the status it once was" and tried to argue that a certain territory of Tyre currently uninhabited is what the bible meant. Imagine using such strong language like desolate only for it to mean only a specific place of Tyre. The prophecy also states that Tyre will be sought but not found, but we know where it is.

Shortly after “accepting Jesus into my life,” I attended my first Intervarsity Christian Fellowship meeting in college. The speaker had us read the parable of the watchman (Ezekiel Ch 3 and 33). We were told that was God’s warning to us to warn unsaved persons. If they died and went to hell and we didn’t preach to them, their blood was on our hands. But if we did warn them about hell and they died unrepentant…oh well, at least I did my part. That was the beginning of my religious trauma lasting many years.

I think that is a standard tactic with Fundie / Evangelical churches, salvation is "free", but after you join the club suddenly the blood of the "unsaved world" is on YOUR hands, can they put any more guilt, pressure, and trauma on people ? That tactic alone promotes so much anxiety, worry and fear it's insane. Where does the "peace of Christ" come in ? By contrast nothing I dealt with in "the world" before I got "saved" produced as much anxiety and unsettling dread as what I had forced and heaped onto me from the pulpit while in church. It's abuse. So glad I'm done with that, and I'm happy for anyone else who manages to finally get out of it, freedom from abusive religion is a wonderful thing.

I once lived in a town that was near two correctional facilities - one for men, the other for women. For the people of the surrounding towns, those places and the inmates did not exist. Oh, Realtors were required to inform potential buyers that there were correctional facilities in the area - but the inhabitants did not want to think about them In the same manner, I observe that for many believers, difficult and challenging books of the Bible do not exist. Oh, they’re physically in their Scriptures, but how many Christians talk about Ezekiel? Nehemiah? Deuteronomy? Ezra? And so on. Much of Evangelical/Fundamentalist understanding is based on some of the Gospels and the Pauline Letters. The braver ones will tackle Revelation, especially pertaining to the Rapture/Tribulation/Second Coming. If Christians were to consider and acknowledge the WHOLE Bible, as to what it says about the character and actions of God, they would need to do some serious thinking about their beliefs. 27:56 Well, I see I wasn't the only one that, as a Christian AND as an atheist, didn't realize that it's much worse than God ordering the murder/genocide of babies, no, it's worse. God orders the Chosen People to sacrifice their own children, the same as the Canaanites and so forth, in Exodus. In Ezekiel is where God explains why he did this. The firstborn sons were to be passed through the fire on the 8th day, after being allowed to stay with mommy for the first week, just the "same as" the animals. Later it seems this practice was converted to circumcision (I believe, don't have a reference for this, but it seems logical).

Slowly catching up.. I think what stood out to me the most was the way God speaks of Sheol in a few different passages around the 26-33 area of the book. I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention it, honestly. Somewhat murky in terms of what we can gather to be God's perception, but none of the language used gives visions of the fiery hellscape depicted in the new testament. You'd think the all-knowing God of the universe would speak a bit differently about it since he knows that it's actually a torturous lake of fire that the majority of people were/are on their way to, rather than just the resting place of all who have died. The view God has towards this place appears to be the same view that most Israelites would've held at the time, which is extremely telling. 32:18-32 is the most obvious example of this I think. 21-25 is not the hell spoken of in the NT. I also found 33:10-20 interesting/funny. Works based salvation essentially. "Hey here's some proof that I can forgive people without needing to sacrifice myself or anything. Don't even need animal sacrifice from them either!" 14 Again, though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, 15 if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 16 None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live." Also the fact that in verse 11 he's like, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked" and it's like ? It sure seems like you do.. Picturing Jesus speaking these things, especially chapter 9, is a crazy feeling lol. So much insanity throughout the book. I think this is my 9th? read through of the bible, but somehow just now fully digesting the things in this book. This one may be the one that pushed me over the edge. Been dying to watch your NT videos, but restraining myself until I get there again in my own reading lol. Great as always!

Here is a fundamental question with reference to Brandon's comments beginning at 27:00: What motivation and what mindset could have caused Ezekiel and the other OT writers to allege that god ordered all these irrational and horrific things to happen? What did the writers of the OT think they were accomplishing? Were the writers sadistic and/or delusional and what they said somehow resonated with the masses of people so that they latched on to it as divine will? I wonder if a team of psychiatrists and sociologists might study these writings and come to some kind of conclusions?

The Wheels Have Eyes is a great name for a biblically-based horror movie. Since reading God: An Anatomy, I kind of feel that Ezekiel 23:20 takes on a new meaning - if divine phalluses were such ardent symbols of divine masculinity, the bigger the better, is Yahweh, in talking about the proportions of the lovers of Jerusalem and Samaria, tacitly admitting he's not the best endowed of all Levantine deities? Worth thinking about... Although Ezekiel 18 is clearly contradicted elsewhere, I do wonder if the shift to individual responsibility is rather ruined by the idea of vicarious atonement within Christianity. There are long lists of what a righteous person must do for God to forget his sins, and, barring some vague sentiments about statutes, there is nothing in that long list about the need to shed blood. Come Hebrews 9:22, and there can only be forgiveness when blood is shed, and we might as well take away collective responsibility by putting it all on God, and our willingness to do that being our basis for forgiveness. It's rather wild.
@ObjectiveEthics Жыл бұрын
The blood sacrifice is a significant part of atonement in the books of the law in the old testament. Hebrews is actually a reference to Leviticus. "He is to lay his hand on the head of his offering and slaughter it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. Then Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood against the alter on all sides." Leviticus 3:2

If you grow up in some places ~~(coff coff *Brazil* coff coff)~~, the anatomical descriptions might in a way apply to Jesus, from stuff you indirectly hear from the pulpit. There's some variations (changing a word or two) of something we hear a lot growing up that goes about "open yourself to Jesus, so he can completely and thoroughly penetrate you, rearrange all you have inside and fill up your heart with c*m. So that his holy c*m may overflow day in and day out through your eyes and mouth, and into the world." And, yes... Everybody who is an atheist or have at least a tiny bit of a dirty mind questions themselves at times why they talk about Jesus' splooge and/or his "deep penetrating powers" as a combo like that, and don't seem to notice how kinky it sounds to outsiders. 😅 (to any portuguese speakers that somehow wouldn't be on the know, and idk how you wouldn't have heard... that word for the emissions I'm talking about is "gozo" 😕)

This is speculation on my part, but maybe the reason he describes the destruction from god in multiple ways and multiple times is to remind Israel that their god is a storm god. By the way, I only learned about their god starting as a storm god as I was deconstructing. No one ever told me that when I was being raised in the church. But probably the reason for that is either because the people I was around also didn't know that or because people knew that I lot of people would stop believing if they knew the truth. For me, when I found out, a lot of the early old testament started to make more sense and I started seeing this god as man-made just like the other storm gods like Zeus and Thor.

Ezekiel can wear you out! Thanks for covering. I wonder at his reference to Daniel, Noah, and Job as benchmarks of righteousness in a single sentence Ez 14:14. Ezekiel starts out in his 30th year, the 5th year of exile. Chapter 20 starts with reference to the 7th year of exile. Unless he is untethered in time like Kilgore Trout, chapter 14 is between year 5 and year 7 of exile. So he must be referring to another, much older Daniel. Granted our young Daniel was gifted and talented, but that is simply not enough time to garner such a reputation that a prophet takes notice. Anyway, this trio always seemed an odd choice. Cheers.

Atheism is increasing in suicides which is why I talk so heavily about having hope, even a false hope is much better than the fate of an atheist. Prove me wrong. I believe this earth was made with a purpose, and Jesus will end all the pain and set things right and hold everybody accountable and this guy in the video thinks that Heaven is evil, I bet you anything, like literally right now, if all the evil in the world was taken away, and all the evil people are held into account, getting what they deserve and no more evil people would exist. He would be so glad to see it happen. They complain about free will on earth because people do evil and then they complain about how there’s no ,”free will” in Heaven when God gets rid of the evil people and everything is going smoothly for once. You live in a perfect world in a perfect body, why the hell would you want there to be an option to leave or rebel? The whole world is at peace, there IS NO WHERE TO GO! God made all the earth have peace, even the animals have peace. There’s literaly NOT an option for rebellion because it’s all over the earth and everybody is at rest and this guy wants there to be an option for no peace? If a kid was being bullied, wouldn’t you want the bullies to be held accountable and wouldn’t you be happy that they got suspended or something? God is going to do the same thing with every single evil person and yet somehow you are against that and call that evil?

Brandon is very charitable toward Ezekiel and the other prophets and Bible writers. As best I can tell, the Bible is written for the purpose of pushing the political agenda of whoever is writing that part of it. In the case of Ezekiel, the goal is to get people to expect and fear divine intervention in the wars in progress, and to go to Ezekiel to hear what Ezekiel chooses to say God wants in order to make the expected divine intervention to go the desired way. Ezekiel wants to get political power by this means. The same trick is used, IMO, for all of the OT up to this point. The political message of the Gospels is "Don't fight the Romans". The political message of the Pauline Epistles is to run the church the way Paul wants. (Paul was a true believer, IMO, so he had no obvious political agenda outside of the church.)

Although they're scary when it comes to applying their beliefs to the modern day, I love watching Jewish scholars react to how Christians insert Jesus all over the Hebrew Bible to attempt to retcon fulfillment of "prophecy" where there was no prophecy in the first place, or where there was a prophecy about something else entirely. None of their ret-conned "fulfilled prophecies" were even about the messiah, never mind Jesus. He specifically didn't do what the messiah was prophesied to do, which was bring military victory to Israel and paradise to earth.

Didn't Cyrus the Great send the Hebrews back to Israel and tell them to write their history which would mean that these stories are basically fictional accounts to explain to the followers who returned what supposedly happened? Also, didn't the returning Hebrews fight with the ones who had remained in Israel and Judah because those who remained were worshiping more gods than Yahweh? I read a book years ago that talked about that. It was written by a christian historian in the 1930s.

Just looking at some of the Christian videos on Ezekiel, people really take what they can and run with it on this book. They justify the false prophesies however they can and just go nuts with the rest predicting whatever is going on with modern day Isreal as an absolute confirmation that the world is in the end times. This is definitely the book for the type of Christian that is really into the deep lore and conspiracy theory side of religion. I’m sure this will be true for the other prophetic apocalyptic books as well.

Well Ezekiel has the Gog & Magog war. That's some real sick stuff. Some Rabbies want that sick stuff to happen by making the West (Edom) clash with the Muslims(sons of Ishmael) in which Russia is joining the Muslims. Ezekiel 38 "1And the word of Yahweh came to me saying, 2“Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him 3and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your military force, horses and horsemen, all of them magnificently dressed, a great assembly with large shield and shield, all of them wielding swords; 5Persia, Ethiopia, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6Gomer with all its troops; Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops-many peoples with you. 7“Be prepared, and prepare yourself, you and all your assembly that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. 8After many days you will be mustered; in the last years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been gathered from many peoples to the mountains of Israel which had been a continual waste; but its people were brought out from the peoples, and they are living securely, all of them. 9And you will go up; you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.” 10‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “It will be in that day, that thoughts will come into your heart, and you will devise an evil plan, 11and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who dwell quietly, that live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates, 12to capture spoil and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places, which are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired cattle and property, who live at the center of the world.’ 13Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your assembly to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’ ” ’ 14“Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it? 15You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and numerous peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great assembly and a numerous military force; 16and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It will be in the last days that I will bring you against My land so that the nations may know Me when I prove Myself holy through you before their eyes, O Gog.” 17‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days by the hand of My slaves the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them? 18And it will be in that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares Lord Yahweh, “that My wrath will mount up in My anger. 19In My zeal and in My blazing fury I have spoken that on that day there will surely be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20And the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the beasts of the field, all the creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the men who are on the face of the earth will quake at My presence; the mountains also will be pulled down, the steep pathways will fall, and every wall will fall to the earth. 21And I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains,” declares Lord Yahweh. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22With pestilence and with blood I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the numerous peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23And I will magnify Myself, I will manifest Myself as holy, and I will make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am Yahweh.” ’" Ezekiel 39 "1“Now as for you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; 2and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel. 3And I will strike your bow from your left hand and cause your arrows from your right hand to fall. 4You will fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and beast of the field. 5You will fall on the open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares Lord Yahweh. 6“And I will send fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the coastlands securely; and they will know that I am Yahweh. 7“And My holy name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not let My holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations will know that I am Yahweh, the Holy One in Israel. 8Behold, it is coming, and it shall be done,” declares Lord Yahweh. “That is the day of which I have spoken. 9“Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will go out and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and large shields, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears; and for seven years they will make fires of them. 10They will not carry wood from the field or gather firewood from the forests, for they will make fires with the weapons; and they will take the spoil of those who made them into spoil and seize the plunder of those who plundered them,” declares Lord Yahweh. 11“And it will be in that day, that I will give Gog a burial ground there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea, and it will block off those who would pass by. So they will bury Gog there with all his multitude, and they will call it the valley of Hamon-gog. 12And for seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. 13Even all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be unto their name on the day that I glorify Myself,” declares Lord Yahweh. 14“Now they will set apart men who will continually pass through the land, burying those who were passing through, even those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15And those who pass through the land will pass through, and when anyone sees a man’s bone, he will set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. 16And even the name of the city will be Hamonah. So they will cleanse the land.” ’ 17“Now as for you, son of man, thus says Lord Yahweh, ‘Say to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field, “Gather and come, assemble from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan. 19So you will eat fat until you are satisfied and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20And you will be satisfied at My table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war,” declares Lord Yahweh. 21“And I will put My glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed and My hand which I have placed on them. 22And the house of Israel will know that I am Yahweh their God from that day onward. 23And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity because they acted unfaithfully against Me, and I hid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword. 24According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them.” ’ ”" The interesting thing here is that he does all of that to make his name known. In short for his own glory. Ezekiel 38:16 "16and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It will be in the last days that I will bring you against My land so that the nations may know Me when I prove Myself holy through you before their eyes, O Gog.”" According to this book, who brings Gog against his land? *"It will be in the last days that I will bring you against My land"* Let's play along and say that this is all real. Then he literally is the one playing that entire stupid trash game for self-glorification by destruction. He sets everything up and then brings everything down. And remember the one who scattered Israel is the abrahamic God by using the nations. Deuteronomy 28:64-65 "64Moreover, Yahweh will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known. 65Moreover, among those nations you shall find no relief, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there Yahweh will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul."

Ezekiel is one of the ways to see just how dishonest the publishers of the Bible are. If you look in the Glossary in the back of most Bibles for the word "son" you will see that they all reference every verse that refers to Jesus as "the Son of man" as well as the verses in Daniel but they never list a single verse from Ezekiel in which God refers to Ezekiel as "Son of man". God calls Ezekiel the son of man over 40 times in Ezekiel but the glossary doesn't mention a single one because the Christians claim that Son of man is a reference from the book of Daniel that proves Jesus was predicted to be the Messiah in the old testament. What's really sad is that most Christians don't even realize that Ezekiel is referred to as son of man because most Christians don't actually read the Bible. Christians only read the verses that the church tells them to read which are the various verses the church cherry picks to create the grand illusion that Christianity is based on.

@@MindShift-Brandon Glad to help. I can also offer some insight into Daniel. You may be aware that Daniel is supposed to be set in the early 7th and late 6th century but it was actually written around 160 bce just after the destruction of the 2nd temple. The author is so bad at history that he claims that Darius is the son of Xerxes when in fact Xerxes is the successor not the predecessor of Darius. Daniel also claims that they were Medes by decent but they were in fact Persians. Daniel also claims that Darius killed Nebuchadnezzar during the conquest of Babylon but that was actually done by Cyrus the Great in 539 bce. Esther has also been thoroughly refuted and is set during the time of Xerxes so let me know if you want some of the info for that.

@@ObjectiveEthics "I do not accept your assertions that you can reinterpret the meaning of "Son of man" in whatever way fits your narrative." I wouldn't expect you to accept the mere assertions of a random person on the internet, but there is lots of scholarship dealing with the phrase "son of man" as it appears in the old testament, the book of Daniel specifically, the new testament, etc. Some of this scholarship is carried out by Jews, some by Christians, some by non-religious people. Admitting that the phrase is multivalent does not require you to become a theist. It just requires you to be honest. In India they actually use cow dung for fires at home.

yes, and native Americans used buffalo dung for their fires on the prairies when trees were not around. Its not a terrible concept. Its that the first request was human feces lol. @@hamobu

@@MindShift-Brandon White Americans also used buffalo dung in the same way, they learned it from the native Americans. And they did it for the same reason, no other fuel. They called them "buffalo chips". (Dry before burning.)

Good overview I think, not much to comment on beasides what i commented on other videos regarding the process of negociation that is to take bible as a meaningfull text. Maybe my only remark here is give how there are multiple, sometimes contradictory, conceptions of God in this book, some of the arguments you put forth about 'his' character may not very strong Other than that, peace
