Get snap ring pliers that spread instead of squeeze and open it up and slide it back. You need the kind that 90 degree turn on the end. It can be frustrating....
@philheese172811 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain about some of those snap rings. Had some real boogers in some Cat transmissions.

I bet those Cat Tranny's would make these VW Tranny's look like toys. Thanks for watchin and commenting

Hi, glad I found your series. Great info! Is a rebuild something a garage mechanic can do? I’ve heard many times it’s better to have someone else do it. I love doing it all myself and learning how it all works

I'm just an average guy who took high school auto class and metal shop. I've applied those skills and added to them my whole life. Never be afraid to fail or try something new. I started building engines for sand cars and took them hundred of miles from home. I had someone build me an engine and it had problems. My vacation ended right them. I decided to rebuild that same engine again when I got home. I made some changes and learned a lot. Some times on the custom engines I would take along extra parts. Then I decided to buy a street legal car so I could build test my parts at home. I got hooked on the VW street car and blah blah blah

Hey I want to ask my 72sb had a AM trans. I understand 4.375 and I have a AH 4,125 I think can I take .93 forth out of AM trans and replace the .89 forth or just leave it alone
@TheEZGZ2 жыл бұрын
It would hardly be noticeable. The RP ratio is where the big difference is. Most of the stock swing axle transmissions used keyed shafts. The last couple years they used splined shafts. There are many gear combinations available from places like Weddle and Rancho. You would be smart to take yours apart so that you can give them all the measurements of what you have now.

I have had mine for many many years. Not sure where I got it but I just did a general google search and saw several places that offer them. mine is made of nylon or plastic with metal posts. I think I gave $100 for it back then

Hello, so I'm new to bugs and i have a 1965 Vw beetle and it pos out of 4th gear all the time. I've determined that is 4th gear in the trans that is popping out. So I got a trans from a 1973 bug from friend who said his was noisy when he drove but it stayed in gear. Will that transmission internals work on mine seeing how mine is a swing and his is irs. Ive asked around and haven't gotten any info from Vw transmissions they seem to be very shrouded in secrecy and nobody wants to share what they know about them. Any help would be much appreciated!

To much to explain here but I mention it all the time and explain it. Obviously you didn't watch the vids and are looking for easy answer. In addition to the obvious difference's Yours is a 6volt model. Since your new to the hobby look for a car with a 6 volt tranny to save some pain.

Hi! can you tell me if it's possible to reverse the rotation of the vw jetta so that way it can be fit in a vanagon 1983
@CoolAirVw7 жыл бұрын
Jetta? I think you mean passat? There would no way to put a jetta trans in a vanagon. Some guys are flipping the passat trans upside down and using an engine adapter to run it in a vanagon.

hi.i have a brand new irs empty case. can i transfer all the components of an old swing axle case to the irs case? thanks
@TheEZGZ9 жыл бұрын
+GEORGE BOURDEISON It depends on the year. A true new style IRS case will only work with certan bearings and shafts. You just need a factory book and get in there and try it. I don't sell parts I just show folks what I am doing with my own projects. Good Luck
