Hi Tim, Really useful video. I've spent ages learning Basecamp and found it powerful but clunky. Are you suggesting that this is probably a better tool than Basecamp? Also, do the custom POI icons transfer to the Garmin?

Tyre is easier to use than BaseCamp, in my opinion. BaseCamp has the advantage of not requiring an internet connection and the ability of seeing multiple routes on the screen. Yes, the POI icons transfer. Thanks for watching.

@@EZMotoTim I have used the Basecamp trip planner for many years now and the ability to easily plan multi-day trips is one of the main things I like about Basecamp. Unfortunately, since I had to buy a new iMac and it came with Big Sur, Basecamp no longer runs. I loaded the 4.8.11 version that supposedly is Big Sur compatible, but it crashes continually and simply is no longer useable. I am trying Tyre2, but I have yet to see a good way to do multi-day trip planning. I can do one route per day, but, as you say, you can’t seem all together to see the overall route. I can do one massive route, but not easy to break it into logical daily routes. Have you found any clever ways to do this with Tyre2?

@@LTVoyager I'm not aware of a way to view multiple routes at the same time. I suggest you contact Tyre Support directly. Jan is good about responding.

@@EZMotoTim After getting the API key (I did not see the exact sequence of steps you showed as Google snuck in a questionnaire part way through), which was fairly easy, I spend some time with Tyre2Navigate this afternoon. It was painfully slow, slower than the Harley Ride Planner. I live in a rural area and have to get by with Viasat satellite internet which makes most web-based programs nearly impossible to use. I also found that the search function in Tyre2 is lacking. I assumed they used Google, but apparently not. My home address could not be found by the program! And when I searched an address I was traveling to, it located a house three away from where my friend actually lives. Google easily finds my home address and also locates my friends house correctly. So, not impressed with Tyre2 and will not pursue it as the performance is just too slow. I am going to take one more stab at getting Basecamp to run without crashing, but I suspect that will not be successful. I did find that I can force Google MyMaps to do nearly what I need. I use a layer for each day of the trip and since you can turn layers on and off with a checkbox, this actually works reasonably well, though not nearly as nice as Basecamp. However, MyMaps does have the advantage of being far faster than any of the other web-based programs and you have the advantage of the Google search engine and maps. The biggest issue with Google is no direct integration with my BMW (Garmin) Navigator V, but it isn’t too hard to convert the files for the GPS device.

@@LTVoyager Yes, Tyre 2 Navigate is a bit slow and highly dependent on your internet connection speed.
