Genuinely what Tim, Jon, Carissa, and the team do helps me engage in Scripture and read it by myself and in community in a refreshing, fuller perspective. And like you said, ALL FREE. Hope to have the finances one day to support what they do!

Amazing expansion of the words on a page. History, tradition, the intermingling of culture, providential moments, and the towering personalities who made it all happen. The rebuilding and repopulation of the city, the restoration of the Temple as a magnet to worshipers far and wide, the re-introduction of those “rhythms” of religion as you call them, accompanied by the powerful reading of words from the Torah once again reverberating in men’s hearts so they could once again love God’s laws- all of this was nothing but a successful maneuver designed to re-direct believers to the will of God and of His purpose, pointing straight to the future Messiah and the ultimate promise of redemption. Thoroughly satisfying introduction (for me) to these books. Thank you.

@rainking50 around 4h5min mark. Match up 2 Chronicles 36:23 and Ezra 1:1-3. You'll see where the text of 2 Chron just cuts off at the "let him go up". The author cuts off the edict of Cyrus mid-sentence as a design to show how Ezra-Nehemiah was not the fulfillment of the real return of exile.

This is central to the story of Jesus. Instead of a temple made of stones, we are the living stones in the temple God is building made of people. This is the physical representation of the spiritual reality. The temple is Christ. The opposition to the building of this temple is always the same. Sanballat = 'enemy in secret', Tobiah= "My God is good', and Geshem the Arab. We are told that they wanted to help the Jews build the temple when in fact Ezra kicked them out and they were to have absolutely no part in the building of the temple or the walls. No wonder "my God is good" is in opposition to the building of the temple. Its the spirit of inclusion and syncretism with all religions.

I am not sure why he keeps referring to Jesus as the Jewish Messiah. Tim has spoken many times that God's purpose was for the Jews to share their knowledge of Yahweh with the whole world. Something that Tim himself says they failed completely and continue to do so. Yes the Messiah was foretold in the Old Testament but Jesus was always to be the Messiah for all people. That is why we have a New Testament. Nobody understood this till after Jesus death and resurrection. None of the Apostles; none of the Jewish leaders. Yes Jesus is the Jewish Messiah but he is my Messiah too.

hey Tim, Could it be the case that the number similarity like 3s and 12s and 7s, and the repeated expressions in hebrew language might be a fruit of a huge scam instead of a Godly coincidence? I am fascinated by this whole thing, and I´m actually a pastor, and I love the Bible but I get very skeptical when we allegorically identify similarities like this. I actually would love to talk more deeply about it, so I sent an email to check if you would like to instruct us in a better way (my name is Pedro by the way, but this is our church´s channel).

Sorry Tim, but I must humbly correct something you said at the start of your lesson. But don't get me wrong, I think it is vital that we learn the OT. "and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." II Tim. 3:15 From a babe ... This is hyperbolic, and, as White said, "Timothy could not recall a period when he had not known the sacred writings. This is the force of the hyperbole." The sacred writings ... In the next verse, Paul used the word "Scripture." Why the distinction? Paul did this for the simple reason that he wishes to draw a distinction between the Old Testament (2 Timothy 3:15) and WHATEVER has a right to be called divinely inspired Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16). The latter comprises more than the former. The earnest conviction of this writer supports Hendriksen's comment on this, and no objections to it have any weight against it. Scholars agree that this verse applies to the Old Testament, but the error comes when some of them also refer 2 Timothy 3:16 to the Old Testament, on the premise that the New Testament at the time of Paul's writing had not been written. Nevertheless, a great deal of the New Testament had indeed already been written. In fact every book of the New Testament preceding 2Timothy, of which there are no less than fifteen, had already been in circulation for a period of time covering up to three decades! Indeed some of the New Testament was to come subsequently to the publication of 2Timothy, but as regards the central message of the New Testament, it had already been published for decades; besides that, Paul left room here for whatever writings in the future might qualify as Scripture. Also, the notion that Paul did not consider his own writings as Scripture is also false. Time and again in his epistles, he used the ancient formula of the prophets of God, "thus saith the Lord," or "He saith," as in Ephesians 4:8; 5:14; 1 Thessalonians 4:15, etc. Therefore, 2 Timothy 3:15 refers to the Old Testament, and 2 Timothy 3:16 refers to the New Testament, in addition to and inclusive of the Old Testament, thus, to both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Zerr accepted this understanding of the passage, thus, "2 Timothy 3:16 means both the Old and New Testament as to their divine source." As Ward said, "(2 Timothy 3:16) can be interpreted as covering the New Testament as well as the Old." Able to make wise unto salvation ... The Old Testament was able to do this, because therein were contained the prophecies which pointed out and identified the Messiah when he came into the world. Only in this sense could the Old Testament make one wise unto salvation, as Paul immediately added in the qualifying clause, "Through faith which is in Christ Jesus." Through faith which is in Christ Jesus ... This clause is interesting in that it defines the arena where the faith that saves is operative, giving a concise definition of what "faith in Christ" actually means. It has no reference to the subjective trust/faith of believers, but means faithful adherence to the teachings of Christ, true fidelity, exercised by one who is in Christ. Thus, people who have not accepted the gospel by being baptized "into Christ" may indeed have faith "out of Christ" (that being where they are), but not "faith in Christ," no matter what professions of faith may be enunciated.

Hi Diana! You may already know, but the story of the Lord of the Rings (LoTR) was written by C.S. Lewis' good friend, J.R.R.Tolkien, and the LoTR series (even the movies) beautifully shows an incredible amount of metaphors that depict Christ the King and humanity's fight against the forces of evil. Just thought a sister should be in the know =)

your illustrations are wonderful - bible skills are great - did you know that nehemiah's gates represent the 7 chakras? when you take chapter 3 and rewrite the meanings of the names in the order they are given you get another story explaining the WAY or the LAW of the lord - these are meditation myths 1 gate is the sheep gate - thats u and me - the lambs skin 2 fish gate - 'fish' represent 'truth' so this is the truth and the way 3 old gate - 4 valley gate - between mountains - midway 4 represents 'world' n e s w directional 5 dung gate - where refuse is tossed from the city - place where our skin sacrifice is given - this 5 represents the body (lamb of christ) 6 fountain gate - is the 4th stage of consciousness 'air' or theta frequency - this is where jacob sees god face to face at the top of the ladder - darkness falls as we prepare for the day of the lord 7th horse gate - this is the delivery of justice from god and his minions - fancy for a through cleansing of delta frequency from the land of milk and honey all of these stories are about the chakra system - the LAW - THE WAY
