Safari Kitui County for the First Time Ever | Scenic Highway, Sunrise Surprises, and What we Found

It was my first time ever to visit Kitui County in the South eastern part of Kenya. The name Kitui means ‘a place where iron goods are made’ in Kamba. The Kamba iron-smiths who settled in the county many years before the colonial period are the ones who named the area Kitui.
Kitui County is resource-rich, with commercially viable coal reserves, limestone,
iron ore, and sand. It is also home to 46% of the Tsavo East National Park, which
has great tourism potential. The county has a population of 1,136,187 people and
is projected to grow to 1,343,998 in 2027, according to the 2019 population census.
The county is about 30,496 square kilometers in size and is bordered by seven other counties:
Machakos, Makueni, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Meru. The county’s
topography is diverse, with hills, mountains, plains, and plateaus. The rivers and streams in the county are seasonal, and the vegetation is mainly composed of thorny bushes, grasses, and acacia trees.

Watching from Washington DC. I grew up in Kitui in the 70s. I went to Central Primary School and my father was a teacher at Kitui High School. Thanks for sharing this beautiful town. It so dear to my heart and brings back all those memories from the past. I remember the swahili village next to Muslim primary school. Off course who can forget Kalandoo Market, still looks the same.

jamaa wa boda hakufikisha kitui high na ttc. i was very anxious to see that place. i was there back in 2017 and the place is very developed. parkside villa tulikua tunaenda huko tunachukua sachet tunatumia kama tissue 🤣while in college. i just mis the place .thanks for that road trip bro
