I have numerous Ryobi tools and they've never failed me. For the average DIY, the Ryobi tools are perfect. The price is right, the batteries last practically forever, and the assortment of tools that Ryobi creates using the same batteries is mind boggling. I also have some Ryobi tools that can use the batteries, or plug in to an outlet and be used that way... Perfect.

Ryobi tools are the 4 cylinder Camry of the cordless tool world: Inexpensive, dependable, and long-lasting. I've bought 10+ year old Ryobi One+ tools for $5 apiece at garage sales. Since Ryobi never changed the battery format, the older tools NiCad (when they were navy blue instead of lime green) still work with modern LiPo batteries. Most people don't use them enough to wear them out. Milwaukee and Dewalt make great higher-end tools, but the Ryobis are a tremendous value.

The continuation with the same battery is a huge plus. I really like my RYOBI tools. They're used from 5-7 days a week from 2-7 hours a day. RYOBI got me interested in woodworking. This is my learn as I go Retirement Career.

I recommend a pruning blade for using a recip saw on live trees. You might want to check out the one hand Ryobi recip saw.

It all depends on how YOU treat your tools. Treat them well they can last you 10+ years, I know as I use my grandfather's Ryobi tools

Kobalt, Ryobi even Hart are fine for most applications. Im heavy in the Dewalt line because they have the best promos. You just have to wait for them. Those are all better brands than what people had 30 years ago that built homes and skyscrapers.

I fix power tools for a living, and I can tell you that I have fixed more Ryobi tools, especially their reciprocating saws, than I can count. They're made of pot metal and cheap plastic, and the motors will go up in smoke within a year. Be advised, this guy's experience is the exception, not the rule.

I had 2 dewalt drills go belly up on me. Every Ryobi tool I own has worked flawlessly and everyone I know who uses Ryobi loves them (just read the comments), especially considering they are less expensive than every major brand. All major brands are made of cheap plastic as well. probably all come from the same plant in china.
