Another classic from Microprose. It was a sequel to award-winning F-19 Stealth Fighter. It added several new theatres of operations and updated the graphics and sounds.
This particular version is taken from my Steam install and run under DOSBox with my own custom dosbox settings. Most noteworthy is the Roland sound which I emulated with the Munt: MT-32 emulator.
Showcasing this game is no coincidence however, since recently I stumbled upon one guy named Toumal, who is trying to remake that classic game in Unity. Here's more details and some videos of his current progress:

I hope he succeeds with his work since the game hasn't aged well (flight model is just not fun to fly) and I would love to play modernized version (although still in retro-style) of this old gem.

The opening bomb impact scene in 1:44 is just astonishingly well-done, I can imagine the reflection when seeing it in 1991.

That's the thing I remember most about this game, lol. Definitely not the audio because I couldn't afford the soundcard used here. I wouldn't be surprised if I played this game using the PC speaker.

Man, I was pretty much thinking the same thing. It must have took a long time to animate that by hand....well I guess they may have made some program to simulate the physics.

320x200 in 256 colors looked photorealistic back then. This game graphics made me aviation lover. Those sunset and night colors looked fantastic. Also this game had sun movement in real time, you could start at night and see sunrise. Too bad, I didn't have soundblaster back then.

I played this on a 486 with PC speaker sound. The Roland sound is mind blowing.

Noice! FYI, when I played F-19/Project Stealth on DOSBox, I had a crazy mission complete situation once. I had accomplished both of my objectives in Central Europe and was heading home when I got bounced by Soviet fighters. My bird was crippled as could be, but I was still airborne long enough to reach friendly lines and seeing that my ECM was out of commission, I decided to bail out. Fortunately, I was picked up by friendlies and the mission was deemed accomplished. But I what don't get is why the Soviet AWACS birds in that game get missiles... (And magic ones at that, too, 'cause no matter how many countermeasures I pop out, it chases me down 'til the cows come home)

Has anyone done the F-19 with F-117 graphics? Now that's a video I want to see... 🤩

As a kid I played the amiga version a lot. However nowadays I think that the dos version is vastly superior. I always prefer AdLIB over Roland. Anyways thanks for the video.

Back in the day I had Aztech Sound Galaxy Waverider 32+ which was Sound Blaster Pro Clone with added General Midi Wavetable chip and Yamaha OPL3 FM synth chip. It was good for newer games that used GM standard for MIDI, but for those little older, pre-1993 the Roland was the way to go. Roland LAPC-I (which was basically CM-32L in ISA form) was upgraded MT-32 with additional sound banks for sound effects. Note that back in the day it was really pricey piece of hardware only few could afford. I played those old titles with Adlib/SB sound on actual hardware but now when I can choose what to emulate I usually go with Roland.

@@damsonn Hi. I have steam version too. Can you explain your custom dosbox settings and roland emulation?

@@Colidace Here's good tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJCYg4qufa2JrKc Note that I didn't run the game through Steam. I took the game directory and run it under my separate DOSBox install. You could probably just edit the dosbox.conf file (it may have different name in Steam game's folder) but the principle is the same: • you need to get Munt (midi emulator) and Roland ROM files • you need to determine MIDI device ID on your system, usually it's just 1 • put that into dosbox.conf file e.g. look for "midiconfig=" and add "1" • run Munt and then the game with Roland as your sound device Or you might look for DOSBox build with Roland emulation already integrated, so no need for Munt application. Never used those so you might to have work that Google magic.

Sound defects are better but as for the music i like adlib version more because its sounds more electronic and kinda suits F-117 idea more.

How you activate the sound on the GoG version? I can hear the digitalized voices the shoots, everything but the engine sounds. Any idea? BTW, Happy New Year!

Try pressing ALT V to change sounds up to level 3. At this level you should hear the engine. Happy new year to you too!

Hm... I've DL'ed the MT32 Roms, set the in Munt and looked up and set the midi-ID inside the dosbox conf. Everything seems to work, but the engine sounds are just awful on my install. Did you use the "mt32_pcm + _control.1988-patched" or some other? Did you use special Munt settings? Could you please post your dosbox sound settings so I can compare them? Thanks!
@damsonn

I probably used: CM32L_CONTROL.1989-12-05.v1.02.ROM CM32L_PCM.ROM no special Munt settings
