LHX: Attack Chopper (PC-DOS) 1990, Electronic Arts

LHX: Attack Chopper is a helicopter simulation with a strong arcade focus. You can freely choose which missions to fly first, and which helicopter to fly in a given mission. There are a total of four helicopters: Apache, Blackhawk, Osprey and LHX. With this fine selection of death machines you will engage countless enemy targets in Libya, East Germany and Vietnam throughout the game.

probably young people cant believe, but this game was beyond extraordinary back then. Was like in a dark univers a small light apeair and you are soo hungry for it. You just need to live it to understand it. Dont eat, dont sleep , dont anything,, no school, just play LHX. Games was not like today...back then you just play tetris and other games like a wonder , a miracol come into the world.

Yep. I really miss the 90s era of military flight sims; they were the sweet spot for complexity and accessibility. It's a shame that the industry basically crowded them out and as a result they became more niche and hardcore.

Wow, this game has sounds! Unfortunately I was too small to master this game on PC, but I enjoyed playing the Mega Drive version later. I remember it had a huge manual with all the info on enemy units, and explaining advanced techniques, such as autorotation. The Mega Drive version had only two choppers, 2D displays in the cockpit, but still, it was an amazing game! I beat it from A to Z.

I played this game on a 386 33 MHz (25 + turbo) with 4MB RAM and a 130MB hard drive. We upgraded from a monochrome two-color screen to a color monitor and all of a sudden this game was cutting edge. My phone has roughly a thousand times the processing power of that computer. It cost my dad hundreds of dollars (in 1990 money) when he bought it.

I even cosplayed to play this game on Friday night's. My parents watching tv, and myself putting some funny shirt making me feel like a pilot in my mind of a 10 years old boy. I always thought Gunship 2000 must have been a better game because I only saw it on a pc game magazine, but after watching here in youtube it feels like LHX was far better, years ahead of many other games. Comanche was another great game. Those were the crazy years, such good memories.

I remember this game very well, up there with M1 Abrams Tank Platoon Simulation by Microprose, I believe it was, correct me if I'm wrong. I remember being able to auto rotate in this game, it wasn't easy, I had to die a few (too many) times, but it was possible.

There was a glitch in it that when you reached a high enough rank to command a squad of helis you left one at base and if you got low on ammo you called the chopper to join up with you but immediately sent it back to land after it took off and it restored your ammo and armour making you pretty much invincible 🤣

Love these videos, brother - an era of simming long since dead - that SA12 site kinda snuck up on you, huh? Easy to do when the landscape looks like a flat plane with the occasional pyramid. I never played LHX on PC - just on the genesis, which was a decent effort for a console; but don't the controls start to whack out when ever your pilot gets hit? I vote for Hind next. Or longbow 2; assuming you can get it to run ;D

there is a glitch which makes it very easy !! before mission go to the simulator and crash onto the hangar then exit, now if you go to a main mission the Ai won't react to you at all !!!! , like it believes you to be dead so you can make any mission on VERY HARD setting super easy , they completely ignore you ! , you have to repeat this procedure after every mission

3d polygon games had been around a few years before this one - Microprose's Gunship and M1 Tank Platoon predate it as well as other sims like Their Finest Hour (one of my faves still) - the game though that would really get everyones attention would be Comanche from Novalogic which came out a little time after this

My best flight simulation memories are LHX and F117A. I remember LHX came earlier than F117A. With 4 types to choose the LHX was way more interesting than other simulations. LHX and Blackhawk are average to play. Apache surely is a trigger happy one. Osprey's control panels are complicated to understand for a young child in the 90s.
