AFAIK- You can have POET or GEN-X active jamming cartridges loaded into dispenser. In fact- those are small ECM pods, that are shot away from the aircraft, to look like it and became a tasty target for a missile

Another great video! Nice that you are using active pause. Easier to concentrate on what you are talking about and being able to actually use the buttons without spinning out of control..haha. You can lock the Trackir view if you look at what you want to talk about and then hit the hotkey that disables Trackir. Might be more comfortable when you have to contort you head at odd angles. It works well for me when I am trying to set up the countermeasure programs.

LAU-138 is a modification to the original LAU-7 Missile Launch Rail. The modification removed the big spun fiber liquid nitrogen bottle from the rear of the rail to make room for a 300 series analog BOL dispenser system with a total load capacity of 160 expendable decoys. A smaller nitrogen bottle was relocated to the from of the missile launch rail. Liquid nitrogen was provided by the bottle via a capillary to the AIM-9L/M Sidewinder missile. This new, modified missile launch rail was designated the LAU-138. The Tomcat could host up to 4 LAU-138s on the pylons. So, not a pod.....

To make it easier to see/look at the panels instead of holding TrackIR, use Rctrl+Rshift+(numpad 2,4,6,8,/,*) to shift the camera to a better angle to view it. This will also help make the panel vertical rather than on its side to help read the labels.

Hey Cap, when looking in a difficult direction with your track IR, just hit your F9 button to turn it off. That might help.

Jamming cartridges come in three flavours, strawberry, raspberry and blackberry. They are designed to make the enemy immediately want toast with said jam and call off the attack.

So the pilot can only fire either 1 chaff or 1 flare, not both? Does Jester automatically react to any threats coming my way when im flying solo as the pilot? Let's say I get shot at by an R-73, does Jester automatically dispanse flares or will I have to press the DLC button multiple times myself? And what if I had chaff selected, would that mean a dead pilot and dead RIO?

Very good question. My understanding is that Jester does not do it. You can ask him to set up Auto chaff ro be driven by RWR. And you can ask him to give you control of the flares as the pilot.

@@grimreapers This is one thing I am concerned about, it really sounds odd that the pilot doesn't have authority to dispense the appropriate countermeasure. Not sure if this is by design. I hope they come out with more info. Any idea how to handle this in combat? Its too clunky to switch when the SHTF and you need to evade a SAM when you have flares selected for the pilot.

Any update to this question? I just bought the F14 and its looking like the only way for me as a pilot to get flares and chaff dispensed is having the chaff set to auto in the back and have the pilot dispense flares with the countermeasures button. When I am playing multiplayer on a server DCS does not allow jumping into the rio seat if you are the pilot if there is an emergency, and frankly it would be impractical at best and disastrous at worst. @Grim Reapers

Can I ask how would you program 10 flares and 50 chaff? Because there is 15 in a quarter for 60 total. Would it be like R10 = Flare, R20=Chaff, L10= Chaff, L20 = Chaff? Will it know that there are only 10 flares in one quarter with the other 5 spaces being chaff? Its a little confusing. : )

The wife is out so I had a little time for testing : ) . I was only able to get flare to launch from L10 not R10 when I set the loadout to 50C/10F . I can't test anymore right now but do flares have to load and be set by the RIO in quarters L10 and L20, and Chaff only in R10 and R20. Has anyone tested this yet ?

@@grimreapersHey Cap, Thats what Im seeing too I had to write it out to get it straight, its dam confusing. 2 dispensers, front call L rear called R, L10 L20, and R10 and R20 (each holding 10 and 20 carts respectively). I tried loading 10 flares into L10 then next flight 10 in R10 with a mission editor loadout of 10flares and 50 chaff. Seems I can only launch flares from L10 not R10. I was hoping with a 50 / 10 loadout you could put the 10 in either L10 or R10 and the 50 of the other would go in the R20 L20 and the other L or R10. I am wondering if in the mission editor they are put in specific locations but it gives no indications. It should be that you use that panel to tell the system what is loaded where, otherwise how do you tell what is loaded where? Will try to do some more testing tonight with different amount of chaff and flare and where carts loaded. Hope that made sense, have PTSD, sometimes its hard getting thoughts out in the right order : ) . Thanks for your vids Cap they are extremely helpful Cougar

Ok, the countermeasure system seems broken to me. Try firing off your 10 loaded flares in L10, then go back and change say R20 from Chaff to Flares , and I Was able to fire another 20 flares. I only had 10 loaded yet was able to fire 30 . Cap or anyone can you make sense of this?

Thank you for cranking already out your awesome tutorials! Are you planning to do a tutorial for Jester especially? There is not that much in the manual. One question that bugs me is, do I always have to ask him for locking a tgt?

I think it's the Val hi and low buttons will search horizontally or vertically. Very handy or if you are close you can click your PLM button and it will lock up the target.

What a dumb system. Also, the auto chaff will fire if it detects ANY missiles that are launched, even if its for another aircraft 50 miles away.
