What's up guys, in this week's video I take a dive into the 11th, 12th and 13th generation F150s, and I give you my opinions on which one you should be.
I'm a big F150 fan, so I don't think you can really go wrong either way, but there are definitely a lot of things that differentiate these generations from one another. Let me know what you think about the video and which generation F150 is your favorite.

11th gen is my literal dream truck. I love how they look more than any other generation ever. Well except the 2019 F150, 13th gen? But I won't be able to afford one of those for 15 or 20 years

I'm looking at 11th gen myself, and I can agree, they just look good. A newer angular look, yet they still look like a pick up truck (newer trucks just have too much going on). Plus, they are cheaper than 12th gen, so it's a win win. I'm just browsing KZbin to make sure they don't have any major problems.

Riley Denning some do! I recommend getting one with a 4.6L instead of the 5.4, with a edge tuner and a few other mods I think mine will out do my old 5.4 work truck and I know I can get 300k plus miles out if it.

Without doing any research I bought a 2012 F150 XLT 4 Door, 4 wheel drive. Immediately i noticed it was leaking antifreeze. I didn’t freak- it was a fairly simple ‘o’ ring replacement. Soon after, it began a string of minor issues- one right after another. I’m not a mechanic, never liked busting my knuckles and sliding under a vehicle, however, when the check engine light came on, I stepped my game up, and with a little goggle/KZbin/ Ford Forum, I took matters into my own hands. Removing, cleaning, reinstalling the MAF sensor -which corrected the issue- was all I needed to realize I could skip the expensive shop fees. Since then I’ve replaced the serpentine belt, water pump and thermostat, rear door lock motor-I’ve replaced the plugs and tested the coil packs, and I change my own oil. She currently has 156K miles and runs like a champ with 33inch full mud tires, 3/2 leveling kit, and a Flowmaster44 exhaust with the restrictor box removed. She’s my daily, and my baby. Idk how a truck could get any more comfortable than this one, and I expect her to be around for a long time more. I don’t make her tow anything, and I’d never purposely put her in the trenches- but I know she would and could. Currently mid way on an exterior light build- and searching for an affordable fender flare option. The 2012 gets a lot of bad reviews and the issues are true- but if you’re a car guy, or are willing to learn, there’s no way you won’t love driving it.

But then a few months later it started to shake a bit. Turns out I need to put in a heavier oil. So far that works well. Luckily the transmission hasn't given me any problems, but I am starting to notice some lag when I shift into reverse. I've maintained my truck well, and it has served me well. I owned a 2006 Lariat 4x4 supercab with the 5.4 3v. Loved that truck, but frame rot ate it. It was a very good truck to me, always ran well, but it did have some issues. The front coil springs are prone to breakage, the steering sector shaft u joints corrode, lower front fenders and rear wheel arches rust, and the box frame simply disintegrated from rust. I found a 2011 XLT 4x4 supercrew 5.0 Coyote with 64000 miles, so I snapped that up before someone else did. It also had the coil spring issue, both sides broken, but strut replacement is pretty straightforward. I gave this truck a better lookover for rust issues, and besides the cabcorner issues the supercrew cabs all have, it was in beautiful shape. The 5.0 is better on fuel, the 6 speed trans shifts well, and tows well too. The technology upfits that Ford made in these trucks from 2006 to 2011 is surprising. Oh, the parking brake systems on 11th and 12th gen trucks are pretty much identically flawed, the actuators rust solid, and don't work once that happens. Disassembly and repair fixes it, but it's quite inconvenient.

I've got a 2013 F-150 XL 4x2 with the 3.7L v6. 150,000 miles and still drives like a dream. 2-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated v6 is just about the most reliable combo you can ask for in a half-ton pickup. Less moving parts = less that can go wrong. Fleets seem to have loved these trucks, I see them all the time. Cheap, fuel-efficient, durable, and reliable. Everything a work truck should be. :)

I put about $1000 into it and it's now worth about $7000. Love this truck and how high I sit up now. Rides pretty smooth for an old truck a few rattles and clanks but no big deal. Lots of features and very comfortable. I changed the odd bank of plugs and coil packs, but they kept breaking and i gave up for now but will get the even bank done soon. Also need to get a new rear differential cover. Fun Fact: The 11th gen was the first one to have the front bumper tucked in so this truck is the grand daddy of today's modern truck.

I had an 08 11th gen extended cab fx4 with the 5.4 and it was a nice solid truck. Good power and sounded great but mileage definitely wasn't great. Had no major issues when I owned it and only got rid of it cuz I started having kids and those suicide doors were a pain in the ass with car seats. I currently just purchased a 2014 12th gen fx4 super crew with the 3.5 ecoboost. So far I absolutely love this truck! More power than I'll ever need. Pretty decent gas mileage. Super comfortable and fun to drive. Also very quiet in the cab and although I do love the sound of a nice v8 the engine is so smooth and quiet that I can't complain. The biggest thing I've learned after doing my research is that if you get a used ecoboost with any kind of mileage on it make sure it was well taken care of. As long as the proper maintenance is done they can last you a long time but if they weren't taken care of properly it can cost you a lot of money to fix. My truck was a 1 owner and had all the maintenance done at the dealership and I could see all the work that was done on it and with the condition of the truck I was not afraid to purchase it. Now with a used vehicle anything can happen but so far I'm very happy with my decision. I love the fact that it has an actual sold steel front bumper! lol In a day and age where everything is going plastic there is still plenty of steel on this truck. In summary if you only have a few bucks to spend the 11th gen should treat you just fine as long as it's not rusted out and beaten. The 12th gen I feel is pretty much just a newer and upgraded version and in my opinion one of the best looking models out there. I have the hid headlights and raptor grill and love the look over the new ones. For the 13th gen like was mentioned in the video you'll just got more safety features ect and a newer nicer riding vehicle but you will be paying for it lol. Hope this helps some people out.

Good info, bud. I rock an 11th gen 2008 XL w/ the 4.6l V8, 4x4, longbed and standard cab. She's been my daily for about 3 years. I've put a lot of work into her. I bought it really cheap and it was not treated well. I'm still working on her. I'm almost done with all the aesthetics. New rims and tires(damn they are small stocks that come with em), bumpers, headlights, emblems etc. Cut out some rust holes. Patched and painted. Added fender flares for the beefer wheels. And bow that she looks bold and beautiful that necessary stuff. New ignition lock cylinder (the stock one was a poor design) Lower power steering hoses. Couple bushings in the front end. And unfortunately I just did the brakes in the front...the steering knuckles and connections are completely rusted out. It will cost me $700 to $1000 just in parts! Always check the underbody thoroughly before you buy! And so, I'm pondering on getting the newer 12th gen. Ya just gotta ask yourself some times...Is the juice worth the sqeeze?

I currently own a 2004 f250 6.0 diesel but I'm needing a second truck just to drive to work I drive 82 miles a day to work so using it for towing is not a must but a crew cab is and so is 4x4. Taking everything into consideration, I think 11th gens are the best. Modern style, has most amenities that you would need, extremely affordable won’t break the bank and solid drivetrain. The 5.4 3V gets a lot of crap, but in reality it’s a solid engine when kept up with. Keep up with oil changes and basic maintenance and they will go over 300k. I’m currently at 200k on my 04 lariat and it’s been a fantastic truck! The 4.6 is great too and 4.2 V6. The 11th gens are the best looking of the 3 in my opinion.

Bought a 13th generation 2016 Crew Cab XLT 4x4 with the 2.7 ecoboost back in late March. It has the 302A package, I think. SYNC 3, heated seats, chrome package and remote start. The sticker price was 24,500. Had 68,000 miles and coming up on 80k currently. I have it as a multi purpose vehicle. Our first kid is on the way, I work in residential construction, and we use it as a road trip vehicle. Gotta say I love it. I was a little skeptical about the 2.7 at first but it has not disappointed at all (other than it sounding like a vacuum cleaner lol). I do tow off and on for work and gas mileage does plummet when I do (I normally get around 11-13 when towing in a mix of highway and city) but on the highway for a road trip I can get around 24-25 MPG. Love it!

I have not had to do much to it besides regular maintenance, I did have problem with my front tires wearing weird and ended up having to replace the struts and now everything is fine. Oh and I just had to replace the battery, once I did, I began hearing weird clicking noises from under the dashboard, seems one or more of the actuators that control heating and air are going out and I will need place them($30.part). If I go to dealer it will be well over a $1000 bucks, but I guess the whole middle of the dash needs to come off to get to them so lots of time involved. I will do it myself and save the money. Appreciate the work you did on this. I currently have an ‘03 super duty with 80k, regular cab 4x4, 8’ bed in good condition. Not a daily driver. Could be the last truck I ever own. However, I have been considering replacing it. Ruled out the smaller pick ups as I tow a trailer and need at 7k lbs of tow capacity. A life long GM guy, they lost me in ‘08 with the buyout and I’m not sorry. So I have been studying everything I can on the F 150. The EcoBoost system is now 10 years old. They are interesting but I am not sold. I have concentrated on the 5.0L and understand there are 3(?) generations of that engine. Also not sure about the 10speed auto (have a 6 speed man in the SD). Would like to keep the 8’ bed but that is unlikely.. the neighbor has a well maintained ‘13 super cab that would probably do nicely, 80k. I might have a shot at that. Thoughts? Ps, what about the “wet belt “ driven oil pump in the ‘21 coyote motor?
@freakfiveoh
@freakfiveoh 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the oil pump you speak of, but if all you need to tow is 7k pounds, there are a lot of F150s, Silverados, Rams, or whatever you like that can safely tow that type of weight.

I've been eyeing the 12th gen 5.0 for a while. I've also been comparing them to the Ram 1500 Hemi. I've always been a Ford fan but the Ram seems to have better styling at a slightly more affordable price. It's a tough decision. But I've got probably another year before I can make that decision as my wife wants to drive her minivan into the ground before we think about getting a truck. The main reason I need a truck is for room for the family but also for those weekend projects and runs to Home Depot. I also want something with a beefier suspension that can handle the payload of week long family trips as a minivan's suspension is weak and the back end is bouncy when loaded down with any amount of weight.

After that I added a 3” level kit, a Sony Double din touchscreen radio, 34’ tires (coming this fall), and some off road lights for the brush guard. If you’re looking for reliability and cheapness, I’d find a newer truck with the 5.0, and as few gadgets as possible. I think all the new gadgets in cars/trucks these days will be a nightmare for anyone buying older used cars in the future.

I've got a 2015 XLT Crewcab 4x4 with the 5.0. Big fan of the 13th gen aluminum body. Does have some dents which I doubt would be there if it was steel however, my bed was heavily keyed and the aluminum keeps me from getting any rust spots which is the biggest benefit in my mind. My dad has an '18 with the 5.0 and we both prefer the old 6R80 transmission over the new 10R80. My '15 has standard single zone climate control and a physical E-brake (hate the new electric ones) and would say it is fairly barebones compared to some of the newer trucks. Plan on driving this guy to the ground and with less risk of rust I think these new generations might last longer than any of the other ones as well.

I just upgraded from a 2006 to a 2016. I love all the technology that comes with the new generation trucks but I might go back and get a 12th generation at some point... I think it would just be interested to have driven the three most recent ones. Haha!

I sometimes consider upgrading to the 13th gen, but I think that’s mostly because I think it’d be fun to supercharge one since they’re lighter. At this point, I’d rather wait and see what they change for the 14th gen.

I had an 11th gen and although the 3v's had their issues if you take care of it, it won't let you down. I now have a 12th gen fx4 with the 3.5 ecoboost and I love it!

I own a 2004 f150, fx4 package. Love the truck to death, she's got 210K miles and still runs like a champ.

My first new truck was a 1984 F150. 302, automatic, regular cab. Wish I still had it. Absolutely no issues and got decent fuel mileage. Then I bought an 88. Blah, not great. My 97 F150 3 door, 4x4, 4.6 was amazing. We drove from Ontario Canada to Orlando Florida to get married, and was getting 860km to a tank of gas.

I have a 2007 with 4.6 engine and it drives amazing. I must admit that you must keep up with annoying little repairs but overall it is a good truck.

I think at some point you just gotta focus on keeping the drivetrain in good shape, and just run the truck until the wheels fall off.
