F-16 fighter jets en route to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands: US Secretary Antony Blinken

The first batch of U.S.-built F-16 fighter jets are already being transferred to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands and will be flying over Ukrainian skies this summer, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday (July 10). Blinken, speaking at an event on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, said a robust package for Ukraine will be unveiled over the next couple of days that will build a clear and strong bridge for Ukraine's NATO membership. "I'm also pleased to announce that as we speak, the transfer of F-16 jets is underway, coming from Denmark, coming from the Netherlands," Blinken said. "And those jets...will be flying in the skies of Ukraine this summer to make sure that Ukraine can continue to effectively defend itself against the Russian aggression." President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said last week that he wanted to double Ukraine's air defence capacity over the summer and that his country needed at least seven additional Patriot systems to protect itself.

Up until now 6 Abrahams were captured or destroyed. That's close to 20% of the Abrahams send to the front line... lousy but - by far - not as dramatic as the Russian made tanks. So far the Russians have lost on average more than 1 airplane per week. What to expect from the F16? There will be loses. By next year: 10? 15?

@@Michiel_de_Jong Maybe not that many. There are reasons behind the delays of deliveries of F16s. Ukraine received the Abrams tanks before it understood the battlefield liabilities they faced. Maybe they won’t be so keen to risk F16s in that way.
